| Fair enough, we are a sparsely populated country by todays standards, In fact while Britain has a larger population, New Zealand is actually larger in land area. This also applies to Australia. |

NZ needs to grow. Anyone can steer a ship like our govt. does. It takes a planner and a communication person (Party) to change direction and steer it to fruits. It may come up aginst ice burgs but a good crew will anticipate the problems and over come the issues and succeed.
It is not as compicated as you may think... |

AHA danforbes.
This is the planning I have been discussing....
We have been marketing NZ as clean green for years. This is a sort after place. (lets not discuss people leaving by the way because I know that there are 60% of numbers of people returning to NZ (details that are availbale)Oh we never hear about this do we.
Bring in people who are at a specaific spec. etc Look at England the same size as NZ and how many millions. Look at Ireland 10 - 15 yrs ago were economically unstabele and come out and are doing well.
This is a subject well in excess of the 2000 words. I would discuss business developers, exporters, a vast well experienced caliper of people to help us grow.
Please don't give me an answer like - oh we don;t have the structure for even 4 million people. We have to PLAN, PLAN AND PLAN....

Of course we have to plan goes without saying. But in this plan are you looking long term growth by birthrate increase or short term by migration.
As for 60% returning. The problem with a stat like that you have to wait and see in ten years from today how many of those that left today came back to get an accurate picture of return rate. You are looking at two seperate pictures really. Those who left in the past now returning opposed to those leaving today yet to return or not. Statistically you can not match them as a different number left yesterday as to today. |

danforbes -- Fair enough though no one takes any of the returns into account. Rememeber you can't count acual people but numbers even people previously. I am one I had left NZ twice and returned. Did not think I was coming back either.

| Well to answer the question yes or no, yes it will happen organically as birth rate is greater then death rate but no we can not orchestrate an increase to 8 mill due to various social constraints on doing so. |

| Just watch a neighbourhood near you once the FTA is signed with China. For an added export sales figures quoted at between $180 and $280m[absolutely pathetic] the govt. has sold out to China. Already the likes of chefs, acupuncturists and other 'asian' specialised tradespersons have been mentioned as near certainties to come here. And the Chinese govt. likes us because it says,I quote, "it can try things out" here [and possibly Oz]. |

| That $180 - $280m is per year not per month. It's not about what we can do for them but what they're going to do to us. That govt. can afford to buy the max[for now] $280m worth of goods from us and send it straight to the dump; just as long as they have unlimited access to us. To them it'sd a means to an end. |

The USA invests approx 41.5 BILLION $'s in NZ
NZ invests approx 26.5 " " " " in the USA
NZ exports to USA $4.33BILLIONS
US exports to NZ $4.48BILLIONS

| NZ will have 5 millions by 2026 without immigration. With it will be 8 miilion; approx. Resources ? We're in crappers because it's not only the new infrastructure we need but major repairs to exisitng. |

I keep talking about Planning..
If we bring in 3 to 4 million of the correct type of imigrant. This will boost business encourage export and stimulate growth . We were 3 million 2 decades ago.
Yes we have gone forward.. Plan Plan Plan. But we NEED THE PEOPLE. Try and grow without people. is like trying to grow a business with out more capital. Cheers |

I think you need to get on your camel because 1; the USA will have the strongest economy until 2050 [then it will be China or India]and 2; it is China that has lent the USA an endless supply of money to cover debt. Arabs sell oil,buy companies; not lend to the USA. And if you take a close look at 'oil rich' Dubai you will note the huge investment in hotels, tourism and those 'island' home developments. Why ??; their oil is running out fast. |

| rsmith. Our population is around about 4.2 million and yes we would do well if it was increased to 5-6m with the right immigration. But as I said earlier; there is no use planning on having this size of population if todays infrastructure is buckling under pressure and in need of repair/renewal. The scaremongering about the low lake levels for power gen. for this winter have already gone out so we not only need to guarantee this supply but increase if before we accept large numbers from immigration. All the planning in the world will not mean diddly if we don't have one helluva lot more schools, motorways, hospitals, power generation and so on and so on. And because the political will not borrow for these important items. And we haven't got a political entity capable of thinking on this large scale. Well it's obvious that we're going to have a 'log jam' in our midst in 5-10yrs |

| That's interesting. Once the trade deal is signed where are you going to put the added 3.8 mllions you say we need; on the farm ???? Would be interested to know about 'our economy' since just about everything will be imported from China in about 10yrs. When the FTA is signed the current tariffs on shoes,clothing and textiles will be the first to be removed and that means the end of that manufacturing sector here. Having this FTA and 8million people just don't add up to anything but a choked up, non productive, entity. And right now the ag. export market hinges on dairy and to expand this industry you need to clear forests for land[and a lot of it]. In comes Kyoto and any other carbon trading fiasco, and you wont see this happen. Plus; there's not enough water now to satisfy the increasing dairy herds. 8 million ???? |
