Right about rlfdevelopments but NOT steveoc!!

And wrong, my view is like a majority of REAL NZers and that is we have had enough of maori bullsh@t and handouts.

Now our kids have to put up with monkey language at school!!!

Your view is one of MINORITY!!!

I have always thought Maori language should be introduced 2nd year of Intermediate as an option, then continued into college years for those interested. We have been seeing a major problem with students at any level of education coping with english, this should be top priority from Primary School level.

Re:TE REO MAORI COMPULSORY in schools Reply to this message
English is the western world language. I would suggest that time is better invested here rather than some dying language that carries very little interest with mainstream NZ and benefits absolutely NO ONE!! Stop being PC and start being realistic!!!

Yes I don't agree that Pakeha should be forced to learn Maori. Really it is the Pakeha's loss. Maori were forced to learn Pakeha but then again Maori can learn and have 2 languages and have the advantage of being bilingual. I'm tired of listening to ignorant people say No we shouldn't learn Maori, it can't be used overseas...blah blah blah and who cares if it can't be used overseas. That's not the point dummies, when you go to other Polynesian countries they might speak little English but they speak their native tongue fluently such as Samoan, Tongan, Niuean, Fijian, so Maori's should speak their language in Aotearoa. After-all when you English speaking tourists come to New Zealand, do you come here to experience more English speaking people or do you not come here to enjoy the rich culture and the language of the indigenous people's of this land. If you want to enjoy more English speaking people then go back to where you come from, New Zealand is a better place without you.

Re:TE REO MAORI COMPULSORY in schools Reply to this message
right.mr58 your post is one of utter ignorance. The majority of New Zealanders are all immigrants anyway who are only jealous of the payouts handed to Maori for injustices the Crown has inacted upon Maori. Your children on the other hand have missed a huge opportunity by not learning Maori. By learning Maori they would have had an opportunity to at least understand and appreciate the people that were here before their ancestors arrived. Now they'll end up being ignorant, racist, white supremist, Maori hating, bigots. This is unfortunate for the apple never fall's far from the tree...shame. It's also absurd to ignore and not accept Maori when we live in a multi-cultural country. Yeah why not learn Cherokee so when you immigrate to America you can say, why not learn Maori? You immigrants are small minded, self centred and ignorant! Maori had to learn the language of the White inbreed.

What a pathetic attempt.When I said microwaves..
To hear kids say 'maka-wehe', I cringe and em like wtf is that??
Back to another person who said their time on a marae was nothing but propaganda.
You sir are a liar..!!!!
When people step onto a marae, they have no colour, no race, no agenda and thats protocol for all marae in the country.

This is a great topic and its a pity that once again it falls into the hands of grown up babies that resort to name calling when they don't agree on another opinion or don't like a subject.

Have only just seen this thread but I feel hine raumati's post at the beginning makes good sense. Provided our people aren't having literacy problems with English (the international language of commerce everyone else is trying to learn) I've no problems with anyone following Maori as a second language. If kids grow up to spend much of their lives here it sure will come in handy, quite apart from the cultural angle

Re:TE REO MAORI COMPULSORY in schools Reply to this message
We dont need to teach a language which was dying and is only being updated with pigeon english ( which is rather amusing considering the context of the previous message)Children need to be able to grow up with effective communication skills and hold their own in the international arena. If it is the personal choice of the parents and child then fantastic - but dont tell me that my child has to learn it - After all Maori are a minority race in New Zealand - Shouldnt Chinese or Hindi be offered ?

Re:TE REO MAORI COMPULSORY in schools Reply to this message
dumbduk it always amazes me that when the drop kiks of society get beaten down they resort to cannabilism. It was happening in your mother country before you came here to lame ar$.

Yes teach your kids to speak Te Reo, our kids were forced to learn English and didnt have a choice to learn their own language.
