I personally think that you are on the right track, but I have a compromise to your suggestion. As a New Zealander I was brought up in an era where I learnt about Maori Folklaw, games, history and a bit of the language, like any other school aged New Zealander of my time.
I was brought up in a time that I felt equal to others and they equal to me, and not once did I ever look at other New Zealanders from different descendants as any different to me - believe it or not there was a time like that.
I absolutely loved and was very proud, to call myself a New Zealander, but then something terrible happened. The tide seemed to change after the springboks issue, people got angry, bitter, vengeful, and defiant. All of a sudden there was "Pakeha" or "Maori", and a time of equality slipped from this beautiful land - a land that we all belong to and are all equal in. This land is full of more than Pakeha or Maori, this land is full of New Zealanders and it is our home - why can't we see that?
One law, one land, one education, one people - and if we all could see that we would be one of the richest and happiest countries in the world.
All schools should teach about the history of this land and hopefully find the courage to forgive and move on, otherwise this racism that we have, born of bitterness, will slowing eat away at us - and for what?
But what I don't want to see is Pakeha being treated differently by org *** ations or Governments paying money out that doesn't help heal the gap, far from it, it fuels that division.
It is our history and our culture, that of New Zealand Aotearoa and if we keep seperating, we will lose that. |

| Although Te Reo is not useful when leaving Nz it is useful for everyone living here, I mean anyone could then be a moari teacher, work in maori org *** ations turn on the maori channel or listen and watch the kapa haka or shows and understand whats being said or sung maybe it will be helpful with the seperatism (hate the Word racism) thats going on here..I'm south african and 75% of the country which is black and i were forced to learn Afrikaans which was made compulsory by the apartheid goverment not beneficial overseas altho very similar to dutch but im not complaining im glad to be bilingual, its a language we coloureds sort of turned into our own with some twist and turns but i love it and i dont see harm in learning another language and with doing so you actually learning more about the culture too its just mind broadening and it will keep Te Reo alive...So i dont think its a bad idea... |

There has been and still is a huge majority of Native americans who are fighting for their rights as the indigenous people of America which is still on-going, for example "First Nations movement". There has also been a number of groups and movements that have been initiated and directed by african americans as a means of resistance to oppression and improved equality - "Black Panthers, Bus boycott and so forth.
Racial segregation in the states in earlier times and the "enslaving" of millions of africans was absolutely cruel and inhumane. And "YES" there was 'moaning' there too. However in terms of the actual statement... Te Reo Maori compulsory in schools in New Zealand, the benefits for both Maori and Non-Maori are substantially increased through the potential gain of human, social, cultural and economic capital within the national and global world. |

Kia kaha i te reo Maori whanau ma. Kaua e korero i te reo o nga tauiwi i runga i tenei kaupapa. Ki te korero Maori nga whanau katoa, ka riri ake te katoa o nga tauiwi (katakata).
Ahakoa he iti taku korero Maori, he nui toku manawa! |
