As a follow up, I just did a quick bit of my own research. Consumer has a story on the ecotube. I don't know what it says as their website is down but I do trust them as being impartial. Also, check out http://www.immortality.co.nz/bios%20and%20ecotube/ bios%20ecotube%20main.html Acording to this site it may not only void your insurance but also any warranty you have on your vehicle.

Thankyou SO much. I have called the Guys at Ecofuelsystems and they were really helpfull. I will not be waiting for scientific tests. For me The best test IS personal experience and word of mouth. Thankyou your post was much appreciated.

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
Understandable. It has a money back guarantee so I wasn't risking much tho :-)
I heard a funny one today. Midas are advertising a product called Fuel Star to give you 12% savings but as you say, no tests have been done. Problem is that before I got an ecotube I could save 70km per tank by driving gently. Thats a 17.5% savings. If midas say you get 12% how would you know? You get more than that in natural variation!

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
I checked re insurance before I got it I'm insured fine with it. Also my warranty people love it coz it reduces carbon in the engine & extends its life.
Re the consumer story I checked & Consumer havent done any tests, they just poo pooed the concept with out testing it. Impartial maybe, professional? no!
Finally, I checked & they have been tested by SKM on behalf on NZ Govt & passed. Believe me I wouldn't just fit it to my new Prado without checking :-)

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
Dunno if anyone wants this but you can ph them on 0273-262-473 (Gene Ward) or email gene@ecofuel systems.co.nz if you want to check anything.

I understand you are skeptical, & rightly so, there are a lot of scams out there, Fuel Star etc.... I was getting told about this for about a year before I decided to give it a try seeing as it had a money back guarantee anyway. I did a lot of research & tracked down their testers etc. I got before & after emissions tests done as well to check their claims. I was ready to expose them if it didn't work, & still would if I suspected anything, but it actually worked.

Apparantly around 80% of vehicles get significant results, & they are about to release a better system that I can trade up to later this year.

Anyway that's my findings, & I check things thoroughly!

Hope it helps some of you?
All the best with your hunt for answers, let me know if you find anything better?

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
Hi,our oil fields generally produce a high quality sweet waxy crude and our refinery is set up to refine heavier cheaper imported crude.I am a founding shareholder and director of South Pacific Energy Ltd.This company was set up to develop the Cheal onshore field (just south of Stratford). We imported our own drilling rig and associated equipment from USA and Succesfully drilled 3 wells producing oil and gas.All our oil went to Melbourne or Singapore and our gas was flared to waste,we couldn't sell our gas because apparantly due to govt legislation the Maui pipeline can only transport gas from the Maui field. That gas is now being pumped back into the ground! Our efforts to produce the oil were also made difficult by various one's.In the finish we got so frustrated by the whole thing that we deliberately sold out to an offshore company!! Tag oil of Canada now owns what we had!! The oil is there and the quality isn't the problem so is the gas.. In the meantime the Govt taxes petrol at something like $1.05 a liter plus GST..Take that off and petrol isn't that expensive..

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
You are partly correct. NZ refinery processes enriched crude s can process the condensate fron NZ wells but not the waxy residue.Obviously your gas was too "wet" to be accepted by the existing pipelenr.
get real about NZ's position in the oil market. Our market is the sam size as Victoria State in Aust. if we stopped useing oil based products in NZ the Oil companies would nt even notice the "blip" in their "bottom line". The Tax question is by far the best option.

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
In actual fact, the NZ Government is only paying $90 a barrel for crude oil. They have told the good people of NZ that the government is paying $230 or so per barrel. This is where we are getting ripped off ...

As for BP, they dictate the retail price for petrol in NZ. I bet if you all went down to your local BP at 7am and put up a huge sign saying "FREE PETROL for next 24 hours" BP would fill their undies and they would lose heaps of money, and heaps of gas. No one would be liable for the fuel as it would appear to be a genuine sign ... and BP would have to honour the fuel loss.

Hello if the entire population of nz were to stop buying petrol today do you really think that it woulld hurt international oil companies in any way at all I dont think so as globally demand far exceeds supply. The only people who will be hurt by nonsense boycotts are local fuel station owner/managers and employees.

The econtube says it works better on fuel injected vehicles rather than older vehicles with Carburetors, You seem to be a living advert for econtube?? I wonder how much of your fuel saving comes from your unconsious fuel saving driving compared with the econtube device?

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
Come on genius’s, why don’t you all boycott oil for 6 months, don’t buy food for three months and see if the price o that falls? This is a straight supply and demand equation and as long as you have 2 billion people in the world industrializing with discounted energy the rest of us may have to pay a bit more for it, be sure they have earned this right. Now out of ignorance you want to target 1 business? Wake up and smell the ragwort! Get educated and rather than post stupid idea’s on the net!

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
Yeah right! Maybe it might be that they all have to buy Oil on a world Market. Get informed!!! If the price of rice goes up World wide would you blame Woolworths or claim a conspiracy between supermarkets for a supply and demand issue. Please take the time to get informed and stop posting *** e, you may influence other poorly informed individuals!!

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
Hi v123 I'm not sure what the econtube is? Havent heard of them. But my Landcruiser is using a product called the Ecotube. It seems to be varying between 36 & 43% savings which is probably the loading & how hard I drive. If you check the AA site they advise that driving style & loading etc can cause variations of up to 15%. If thats the case then subconcious savings could account for 15% of my savings - but not the other 21+%
There has to be some clear savings coming from the ecotube!

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
Absolute pointless boycott. Shell , Bp etc have nothing to do with fuel going up. In fact you can bet they have big short posn on oil. Look around ..did you ever imagine your houses would double in such a short time. The problem is to much free cash the banks are giving out. A massive wall of money trying to find a home. Of course commodities are going up. Hey Rice has gone up 100% lets boycott the indian takeaways

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
Come on!! Lets look at this you are trying to say $122 a barrel is the lowest crude has been in the last 2 years? Infact at no time in history until mid Feb this year has Crude ever traded above $100.

Infact what is currently priced into the market is $90 Crude. Yes for a breif time we saw a spike in the price to $147 but that was not priced in.

Please do not try and mislead other ignorant people with such Tripe!

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
I am unaware of the New Zealand Government buying Crude oil? I have never heard a claim of anyone let alone a Government paying $230 or so?

Sounds like a great conspiracy theory! A good story to tell that will get people wound up, how productive? Make a broad based statement clearly founded in Lunacy which no one can substantiate.

Whats your excuse now? Oh I but my mate who works at BP said??????? Wake up there is no conspiracy here just a simple supply and demand issue, sounds boring I know but that’s the crux of the matter.

Re:FUEL "rip off" Reply to this message
Just somethings that come to my mind.
1/At last estiminte NZ was 0.02 of the total world market
2/ you talk about huge profits by oil Co,well has anyone heard of return on investment, basic economics....
3/ Gull fuel is 2nd class ,try going to the snow with Gull bio diesel in your car.
4/ The Govt don't buy barrels of oil,NZ resellers (oil co) buy a mix of refined and crude oil.
