Milk Reply to this message
So can anyone answer this one for me.
Why is it that the one milk that has the least done to it and is the healthiest is the most expensive?
And no most people don't realize it is better for them.

Re:Milk Reply to this message
before milk went into plastic containers it had to be sold on the day the shops received it, then it was dumped down the drain if not sold,
what have they put in it to keep it safe for over a week, what's the chemical

Re:Milk Reply to this message
You'll find it probably not chemicals but the fact that these days the milk lines have to kept so spotless it not funny ...
Was the milk they threw out bad or was it just policy.

Re:Milk Reply to this message
I am employed in the Dairy Industry and agree with the last comment. Yes there is stricter controls with milk quality now, all plant that milk comes into contact with and anything that is within cooey of it has to be kept spotlessly clean. What I would like to know is regarding the price: Why is milk sold at the supermarket etc.. at a high price when the farmer is getting a poor return? Same thing going on with the meat as well, yesterday at the supermarket beef was selling for $14.00 per kg yet when the farmer sells his beef direct to the meat works probably best price ATM is around $3 per kg? Looks like someone is being ripped off, actually maybe both the consumer and the farmer are?

In a country that grows meat, poulty, milk, fruit, veges and fish our prices are horrendous. To top it off, we get the second grade produce. Whats up with that???

Re:Milk Reply to this message
I have always prefered Milk in a bottle, shame such a natural drink is put in plastic now. ripekaa, you are so right regards the meat/poultry fish etc etc being a shocking price in our country, guess the middle man is "creaming" the big $$$,it's outrageous seeing the price in the supermarkets, and yes we do get the poor quality of it all, also most of our food here is tasteless, spent time in Boston UK last year and the food was supurb for quality and taste, their soil almost looks edible, so rich, no wonder their food tasted so nice.

Have a holiday home on the coromandel - try buying fresh fish anywhere in whitianga - you can get mussells, but fresh fish????

ludicrous.

Yet they let hundreds of holidaymakers pillage the seas for months and freeze tons of it.

Re:Milk Reply to this message
Supermarket profiteering.
I was buying kiwifruit for stock feed all winter at $35.00/tonne, that's 3.5c/kg while supermarkets sold exactly the same fruit for $1.00 -$1.50 /kg. The same fruit, the stuff I was feeding even had the stickers on. I was able to buy Ohakune carrots for $61.00/tonne.

Their arguement is that they are operating in an International market, so therefore need to make international rates.
Not that I agree with it but that's what they'd tell ya.

Re:Milk Reply to this message
*TOTALLY DISAGREE ON THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF MILK+
The fact is cows milk is for cows and not human consumption.
If you think about the syptoms you get from drinking milk you will agree that it is true.
Lactose intolerance is suffered world-wide and reduction of this white poison is the only way to get rid of these nasties.
Upset stomaches, the runs, not to mention a few.
Studies have shown that milk does not benefit human consumption at all and the fact that it is white makes it as popular as it is today.
If it were black would we drink it.
Further studies have also shown that people who have lived there lives consuming milk that when they stopped all related symptons disappeared and they commented on how much healthier they feel.
The best liquid for the human race is water or fresh fruit juice.
Try cutting down on the consumption of milk and cheese for that matter and you will feel the benefits sooner than you think.
I was a milkaholic and found that after stopping i felt much better.

Good point, I'm a beef farmer and we are getting less for a kilo of beef than we were ten years ago and our costs have doubled. Don't hold your breath for an export led recovery.

Re:Milk Reply to this message
I have recently seen a documentary on the history of cows milk consumption. Many years ago most or nearly all people were intolerant to cows milk. As people that could tolerate cows milk survived longer now 80% of people (I believe this was Britain)have the gene that makes them cows milk tolerant. This also means that 20% of people are cows milk intolerant. This in my view means that milk is only good or bad for you depending on your genetic make up and this is also true for many other conditions. There is unfortunately no single correct answer to most issues in life.

Re:Milk Reply to this message
How true stance...I did this study some years ago, one thing is ha nearly 80% of cows milk contains casein, casein is used for making paint and plastics. I truly believe dairy products are the cause of asthma, forms of diabetes and several cancers...growing to epidemic proportions. Not to mention the allergens in milk. I doubt if the authorities will ever take this in to account, too much to lose.

A good read...

Re:Milk Reply to this message
I notice you all saying how milk is not good for you but has any of you actually looked into history and seen that all these cancers and what not coursed by milk have only started happening since they started fiddling with the real product.
Drop all this so called good for you meddling and you may find that once again milk can be good for you.
Or would you all prefer to eat products that are just plan made up with chemicals ???
