Who in the motor industry is suffering? Reply to this message
Who out there in Motoring industry IE Towies, Haulage, mechanics, Car Sales etc are finding it very difficult at the moment?
Rising fuel, RUC and other hidden costs + better transport system which now sees less cars on the roads seems to have taken its toll on the motoring businesses and yet i hear no one in the motoring industry complaining.... Perhaps its just us, but I would like to know if there is anyone else out there that is struggling.

i don't know if struggling is the right word yet. i work in the hire sector. nervousness, apprehension maybe?
fingers crossed it's not as bad as it seems and it's a bubble made worse by speculators would be my current estimation.

I really don't think it helps with fuel on the increase every week and then RUC which affects everyone in the long run, doesn't it.?Costs increases in pretty much everything and all that, But yes nervous apprehension i agree and wondering if our small towing business will be able to handle it. Perhaps its just winter and a slightly better public transport system now..... not so many cars on the road but these last 2 months has been the worst we have ever experienced since starting up 6 years ago. Suffering well yes, financially we are.

Sometimes suffering is what is needed to bring change about. Anyone selling a second hand large engined car will be suffering big time in the near future with prices falling as quickly as petrol prices rising. What needs changing is NZ-ers attitude towards motoring in general. If petrol goes to NZD 2.50 or even NZD 3.00 in the near future as some predict we will finally see an end to big engine cars and 4 WD which seem to dominate our roads. Having emigrated from Holland where small cars rule and 1.8ltr or 2 ltr engines are considered big and attract higher tax I feel NZ has a long way to go. Even a family car doesn't need to have a bigger engine then 1.4 ltr with modern tech.. The clean and green image is a total marketing scam and nothing more. If NZ had a population density like most EU countries it would be increadibly polluted. Bring on higer petrol prices!

My Brother in law has a well established & very professional mechanical garage & is having to lay off staff as a result of people using cars less & not being able to afford routine maintance.
An interesting side note: My $4.0 Ltr Petrol Prado 6 cyl 4wd has had an ECOTUBE fitted & now costs less to run than a diesel version or some 2.0ltr sedans. It also produces less harmful emissions than a mazda 2 which is the current car of the year. Check these guys out if you want to see for yourself www.ecofuelsystems.co.nz I'm not getting anything out of telling you this, it's just really good!

More on my cars fuel savings results:
I just did a quick calculation & if I'm correct the improvement on my truck of an extra 175km (575km divided by 400km) = 43.75% improvement in economy just by fitting an Ecotube.
Thats a great savings with todays fuel prices.
I have a 90 ltr tank. At 2.25p/l thats 202.50 to fill up.
A savings of 43.75% on that is $88.59.
These are my own results, I've done 7000km with an Ecotube in & this is what it has done for me. The guys at www.ecofuelsystems.co.nz only state a 20% average savings on their test results page. Altho I see a Commodore got 48%. Check them out, its moneyback gauranteed anyway.

You say bring on higher fuel prices but will you be happy paying more for your food, white ware, clothes etc. High fuel prices will hit everyone young and old alike not just car drivers.
