You elect a priminister to lead a country and make the right decisions for the people, labour have failed,
rules should have been in place regarding easy credit and we wouldn't have some of the problems we are faced with now,
you only have to look at the justice systems failure over the past 9 years and you'll agree, labour govts have no real grasp on reality. |

I'm sorry that francismolok thinks that NZ's economic down turn is a media hype motivated by ???? to scare people
Some Companies may still be hiring because they are providing for a need in the current market that is not or not yet affected by the recession. He or she also needs to know that companies also will put on a major front as seen with the US Citi bank of continuing to hire as though they do not have a problem, Now 5-6 months later they have laid of masses of people. This is true also of other companies globally. If I were francismoklo I would not appear so smug and speak of the "good time at her company". NZ is not immune to hard times. NZ's have a social government that will ensure her citizens will get a benefit. from what I understand Americans have NO benefit system that will last till job replacement. Families WILL go hungry and suffer.
The "bad news, unemployment, depression, sadness," IS going to get worse in new Zealand. Be aware the grass will turn a nasty brown in time. Hope that it is not in your backyard. Just look at our fellow kiwis that have already told you they have just lost their jobs. Do your research! Become educated about your economy and what is going on in the world! And please! Be more compassionate in your view. This world event not just an American crisis. Thanks |

| It is very real, as a small business administrator for several small businesses I am watching people be made redundant everyday and my own hours have been cut at several workplaces. The fast exciting ride of economic growth is over and now everyone must tighten their belts and be prepared. Take any job offered to you it is easier to find a job from a job and it avoids depression. Plant a garden, drive around less maybe get a bike! We all need to be real in this situation as it can happen to any one of us and survival is the key! |

Not worried about myself since I own a small, debt free business but I am worried about others - my employees and my family and friends.
After much deliberation, I advertised a full time job recently to replace a staff member leaving for his OE - I got 38 applications in the space of 4 days, and of a much higher standard than in the previous 4 years, many of them with good tertiary qualifications in fields unrelated to the job I was offering. Having appointed someone, I now worry daily that I'll be having to make the new staff member redundant if I need to downsize over the next 6-12 months. Even as part of one of the sectors the media identified as "unaffected" by the economy, turnover from the business's usual activities is down 10-15%/week compared with last year. This shortfall is being made up by diversifying the business's activities and not being proud about taking on any opportunity presented to me. Fingers crossed that these opportunities will keep coming and my employees have secure futures. |

you should all be concerned about losing your job, unless you have one that is government paid , local body or hospital. More help needs to be given to those that have lost their jobs as basically some are not receiving any real assistance. More help for businesses - what a joke as this does not help those whom need help, it only helps the business owner. National party, same old story, basically there for the rich, not the people!
The 90 day trial period of employment is another joke, I have a ministerial letter stating that will help me - I am one of the many without a job. I can tell you it is not a joke after over 160 applications and 6 or 7 interviews! Exactly how that trial period will help me find a job is a little of a puzzle! |

My job was made redundant 5 weeks ago with 5 other employees. I got my CV updated and have applied for 40+ jobs so far, had 5 interviews, no success yet. I've signed up with several employment agencies, I do a daily check online with SEEK, Trade Me Jobs, NZ Herald Jobs, myjobspace.co.nz. I'm networking with friends, driving around and dropping my CV into companies, started going to trade shows to leave my CV with companies at their display stands. Signed up with WINZ. Considering retraining in another career.
Basically, if you've lost your job, treat it as an opportunity for a new beginning. Think positively, persevere and be proactive. |

orange - I'm hearing that up to 100+ are after most jobs - the result being companies are qualifying prospects by making the expectations quite narrow - so it is hard out there....
I admire your attitude...if you bring that to an interview you will have much chance...good luck... |

| Hi, with the level of stress out there, due to the economy, Funeral Homes will probably get busier. This could perhaps be an area you or your husband might consider. It's a priviledged industry to be involved in, helping people. Just a thought. |

| Government jobs have been affected across the board, Dept of Conserv, W&I, ACC, the recession has affected hundreds. I work in Administration, these positions are the first to go - it was published, so - do I feel secure? Absolutely not. My husband works in a timbermill, hours have been reduced by 20 hours and I am part time with the possibility of no job. I will pump petrol, sweep footpaths if it can generate income and put food in my kids mouths and pay the mortgage. In saying that, we love our lives and are extremely grateful. I wish you all the very best, good luck. |

Hi, reading your message is the same as what I'm going through right now. Thee only thing is that I didn't lose my job, I left for an opportunity in Perth. Had 2 part-time jobs but ended up back home for family and my babies (Cats). Been back for 1 1/2 month and find it hard to get a job. You're right, a new beginning happens every day of our lives, to be positive, persevere and proactive. You know, about the Labour & National,It's Mans. Law FULL STOP.
Good Luck on your jobhunt, and don't give up, it's out there waiting. |

Yeah we all need to be worried about our hubbys job!
He was made redundant, did lots of part time work. Now has a "permanent" job.
We are one of the fortunate ones cause through hard work we have independent means,... he hated staying at home.
I dont know how others cope! |
