| I don't buy that. The NZ dollar has been around 60c against the USD before and when it was the price at the pump was nowhere near this high. It smells of greedy fuel companies to me! |

When you have a 40% reduction in the price per barrel and a 25% reduction in the value of the $ the oil companies resort to their historical one word reply; SUCKERS.
Did I get my spelling right ?????????? |

| Because the oil companies like to keep profits up. The world including NZ is not using as much so the oil companies profits have decreased. They counter this lack of volume sales by keeping prices high. The best thing we in NZ could do would be to boycott one fuel company. I suggest we all target BP and dont buy from them. |

The idea of boycotting BP is great and needs to be done however you need to set a start date maybe 1st November.
If we could get all consumers to do it it would force the oil compnies to bring down the price.
Pack and Save are supplied by BP so they would need to be boycotted also.
Everyone needs to stop using any BP oil product until they bring the price down below $1.45 per ltr. Lets get it started as of the 1st November 2008. Lets do it together. Send an email to everyone you know to start on the 1/11/08
The power of 2 million comsumers will win. |

Wow 8 cents per litre today and the NZPA repoted it as "price slashed". What they should have repoted is that a small decrease has occurred to try and keep the population quiet.
I wish this message board had a spell check. |

Its all to do with greed, not only by the big 4 but the Govt.Ther inquiry into fuel pricing was just a smoke screen.a sham. For every 5 cents fuel goes up they reap another 29 million in taxes.
Diesel is a by product of avgas and itdoesent take a geneous to work out why we pay through the nose for diesel |

| What amazes me is how many oil company apologists are out there all rushing to make excuses for the oil companies when they are slow to bring prices down when they obviously can. The AA would have to be one of the worst. They say that they have done surveys and everytime the results are the same - they conclude that the price is relatively fair. They also claim they have no allegiance to their AA Rewards partner - BP. You can believe that if you like but I don't. Also have you all noticed other ways the big 4 are increasing profits? - namely closing down petrol retailing outlets in all the smaller towns. It seems a bit silly really - 30 years ago there were petrol stations everywhere - far too many really. Now there are probably at least 10 times more cars on the road and a whole lot less petrol stations. In a lot of smaller towns there would be no petrol for sale at all if it wasn't for smaller "indies" such as Gasoline Alley. I am told that the NZ government used to own most of Europa Oil but this was sold off to Shell (I think) in the late 60s or early 70s. In retrospect, not a very wise move but that's the National Party for you! |

| It`s not rocket science, there is one refinery in NZ,and it is owned by a consortium of Shell,BP, Mobil & Caltex, I think the govt. has it`s dirty fingers in there too.The government also want prices up so the tax take is bigger,so turn a blind eye to the illegal price fixing that goes on all the time. |

| A boycott sounds good in theory but is difficult in practice. You have to have good inside knowledge of who your are dealing with and what connections they have. For example how many people know who really owns Gasoline Alley, Challenge, or Gull? Unless you can dig behind the facade and find out these things you might well end up supporting a rival supplier who is indirectly owned or supplied by the oil company you want to boycott. The big 4 are not fools - they have spent decades organizing their cartel and it is very hard to unravel it without a good knowledge of business ethics and administration. If someone could do this - the results might be very interesting. |

| It takes so long because all the oil co's here have to get all their books exactly the same so they can lower the prices by exactly the same ammount on the same day. And the commerce commission and govt. think this is okay, think there is nothing strange about this set-up; don't think the oil co's are price gouging. Yeah, good one........ |
