I think the cellphone law is inconsistent.

Why should you be able to eat, drink, smoke a ciggy, but you can't use a cellphone. At least if you have to use both hands you can put it down. You can't with a ciggy or a hot coffee. If you drop your cigarette, it's likely to cause all sorts of distraction. I sometimes shave in the car when I'm running late and let me tell you that is more distracting than talking on my mobile.

It's another example of the government passing legislation that is unfair and inconsistent. It needs to be that all the above are banned or none of them. It's bollocks.

Hi select

So you knowingly partake in distracting activities whilst driving your car.
You're a dangerous loser - get off our public roads waste of space.

I'm pretty sure you gotta have both hands on the wheel at ALL times (cept gear changing). Can someone who's read the road code recently shine some light?

You don't get it do you! It should all be banned not just a part as cell phones can be tracked and call times logged so there for the whole thing can have its evidence brought before a "COURT OF LAW" which in turn makes money for the "CORPORATION". The "CORPORATION'S" enforcement officers are the STATUTORY POLICY ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, or Police!

Ban everything that causes drivers to loose focus, in a car!

It's not about that, dummy. It's about revenue collection!

Check out Holland when they got rid of all traffci signs and road regulations. ACCIDENTS WENT DOWN! Carry on loving the RULES!

I think that Select minus 1000 would say "nah as long as you can hold the wheel with your knees"

I agree with Toks introducing such laws thos late in the game really make NZ appear to be a 3rd world country.

Re:cellphone law inconsistent Reply to this message
The Police however are only doing a job no matter that some are brainwashed into believing that they can be above the law!

At the end of the day Police (and there are more than most that are bloody good people) may have been led down a path which does not take into account their oath which is to serve as follows:

"Section 37 of the Police Act 1958 prescribes an oath in the following form:-"

“I, A.B., do swear that I will well and truly serve our Sovereign Lady the Queen in the Police, without favour or affection, malice or ill-will, until I am legally discharged; that I will see and cause Her Majesty's peace to be kept and preserved; that I will prevent to the best of my power all offences against the peace; and that while I continue to hold the said office I will to the best of my skill and knowledge discharge all the duties thereof faithfully according to law. So help me God.â€

Nothing there about Statute. Just the, law. Small lettering indicating, common law. The law of the land! Not Naval "COMMERCIAL LAW".

It would be better if you said even less than a few words. Do you like f4cist and state! Or totalatarianism.

Hmmmmmm! Gets a warm feeling inside eh! How about "Police State?" Or "MARTIAL LAW?"

Re:cellphone law inconsistent Reply to this message
Then shut up if you can't debate what you don't understand. Oh!Limited one!

If you don't understand what the idea behind "Courts of Law" being corporations means then don't talk about them like you know. As I say ban everything that prevents two hands being on the wheel, so that all humans are safe. NOT JUST THINGS THAT MAKE PROFIT FOR THE CORPORATE COURTS.

Now either research or go back to the television and watch your "PROGRAMS" and read your daily dose of "REAL" news.

Forget the *** about God and an elderly woman somewhere in Britain and I might pay attention to it. Until then, stuff the oath.

Re:cellphone law inconsistent Reply to this message
The opposite to "of_few_words" are you!

Maybe stuff Statute as it requires consent! Or maybe not. Maybe Statute and man-made laws are good for people and that some men and women can rule over others by laws they made up themselves without others consent!

Or Maybe not!

Re:cellphone law inconsistent Reply to this message
Everyone needs to chill the f### out!

I dont shave on the way to work any more and I think if you are going to ban talking on mobiles, then all other activities should be specifically banned as well including smoking, eating, drinking, shaving, changing CD's.

These activities are all as bad as talking on a mobile phone and some are worse.

Re:cellphone law inconsistent Reply to this message
Anything, that makes you take your eyes off the road isnt good. The problem is that people are texting whilst driving. Thats what this blanket type law is addressing. So ban the use is the only way. Cant ban txt only in cars..
Hands free is available so whats the problem.
Thing is we want 'everything' immediately. We are too impatient as a society.
Smoking is also very dangerous whilst driving. Dropping you ciggi and having to retrieve it, or even just getting smoke or ash in your eyes whilst driving. And how man people still throw out their butts thru the car window ???

LOL...NOW theirs a good reason for police DNA checking and revenue making. DNA everyone who owns a car. Then dna test butt ends found on streets. and send them the bill for littering and unsanity living..MAKE A FORTUNE.

Anyway its a shame people are so DUMB that it needs the govt to pass a law to stop them doing STUPID things like txting whilst driving or trying tolook up phone numbers in their address book on their phones.

Re:cellphone law inconsistent Reply to this message
It's amazing how many of you don't know that it doesn't matter if the phone you are using in a car is hands free, or hand held, it's the fact that you're having a conversation with a 'remote' talker, that is the distraction. The conversation helps to 'remove' you from the driving environment.
If you think that you're a responsible driver, you won't talk and drive with either type of phone. If you get caught, I won't be surprised that most of you will whine like stuck pigs, as though you didn't know you were breaking the law.

Re:cellphone law inconsistent Reply to this message
shootmcgraw, yes hands free is still allowed as is 2 way radios and even changing the music on your ipod (something that is for me atleast a far bigger distraction than talking on the phone) and if you are a Police revenue collector you can still talk/ text on your cell phone because you must be a far safer driver than anyone else, 'safer comunities together' YEAH RIGHT.

Hi shootmcgraw

Hands-free phones are still permitted, but now that people know that both types of phone are equally distracting, then surely responsible drivers won't use either?
