mhol, was busy a few days, but am back. yes, u are allowed to own land in fiji, just not reserved native land. on voting, what use is it when its race based ? so democracy as we had it before was worthless. when and how has NZ intervened in fiji and put down a riot or 2 ? now you keep going back to india and put the native and indo fijian friction on the surface. the difference that we have with you is that our 2 major races are almost evenly populated, in NZ, the anglos outnumber the maoris. are you really naiive enough to think that the maoris would never bear arms against the NZ government and attempt to reclaim their land back had they been the majority and didn't get things their way ? did you forget what happened to the anglo bunch in zimbabwe ? i have anglo friends who were kicked out of their land and kicked out of their country. don't get me wrong, indo fijians of course carry many of the indian values with them. but they have fiji at heart first and foremost. have u ever done a study of the percentage of indo-fijians with university degrees in new zealand compared to other groups ? from the US to Canada to UK and Australia, indians per capita are the highest earners, by race. make no mistake about it, while the rest of the pacific islands are all too content with taking aid from the tasman 2, its the indian brain in fiji that pushing the envelope of branching out of the south pacific, making new friends and of progression. sure, fiji has its tough times, but when the dust settles, fiji will strive and once again consistently beat the value of the NZ dollar.

jsummers, a combatant is a human being, absolutely right. but, in most instances he/she is trained to kill or defend, is armed and has some readiness and training. On the other hand, a civilian has no sense of direction. if you were in a situation where u were targeted, wouldn't it be a nicer thought that at least you had some means of protection ?
on hiroshima, if your opinion is what it is, then why is the NZ foreign policy known for globally as being among the most anti-nuclear ?

elalameine, really ? and the NZ maoris are not marginalized ? native fijians own 87% of the land, have a say in their country whenever they want. Do the maoris have the same power ? its a spoof to even give it a second thought. through their treaty, the maoris sold themselves for good. and in the case of the aborigines in australia, they were like a virus that needed to be eliminated. only recently did the australian government appologise for their past actions. given that record, we'd be nuts to think that either of the tasman 2 would know a thing or 2 about race relations or respect for the natives. and you also need to research a little bit. native fijians outnumber indo fijians. we've seen what happens when the maoris needs are ignored and they get irritated. the NZ cops go rushing in and brutally take them out. NZ does not have a clean sheet, we aren't all blind.

mhol, on land, something tells me that new zealanders are not going to be owning much of their land in the next 100 years. could the number of square kms of the 87% of native land in little fiji in the future be more than the total left over in New Zealand for kiwis ? something worth keeping an eye on. i almost thought i landed in beijing the last time i was in NZ. democracy and free enterprise has its price.

NZ and Australian high commissioners have been ordered sent back. Both surprising- many believed the next move would be to shut down the NZ embassy in fiji, didn't happen, yet. We know that Australia once in a while does something annoying from NZ pressure, but everyone knows the vast anti-fiji rally, the cream of the crop stuff has been run by the clark-key combo. when Key starts saying the "international community holds fiji accountable...", its laughable. its the opposite. He's the one man show, and he's begging everyone to join in, just as he was begging letterman and yanks to spend cash in NZ, and later had dinner with his love clark. "persona non grata"- legally binding international law, used by fiji. takes some guts to stand up to 2 giants at your doorstep, i must admit.

I agree with you, Fiji has had a race based so called democracy which has not provided the Fiji Indians with an equal say in their country. The politicians were not going to fix it as it suited them to retain the existing system, this the Commodore stepped in, and states he wants to establish one man one vote, with fair population based electoral area. Good on you for speakinh out.
I haved worked in Fiji and visit every year and our (NZ) politicians are trying to stuff it up by intefering.
