Oh that concert. I was at 4th form in college and my mum(May she rest in peace) wouldnt let me go. Eric Carr was drumming for them then and it would of been roughly 1980/81 if my memory serves me correctly :)

andrew... yeah that sounds about the year.... big blur from back then, we used to get regular big name concerts coming here a lot, I have seen the police, david bowie, black sabath, bon jovi, U2 a couple of times, dire straits a couple of times, Kiss of course, Pink Floyd in NZ a couple of times and in LA once(the wall concert, it was brilliant), bob dylan, I have even seen ray charles, but I think I miss seeing all the good rocking ozzy bands like chisel and the angels to name a couple.... the eighties and nineties were good concert years...

You have seen a few acts al. I have seen KISS twice. The first time was their reunion tour when the original line up got back together after 17 years. Pink Floyd also. ZZ Top, AC-DC twice, George Thorough Good, Dire Straits fare well tour, Iron Maiden, Lordi and Alice Cooper.

I've seen Pink Floyd doing the Wall in London, and again in San Francisco.Meatloaf was fantastic.A free gig in a pub one night was Robert Plant.Eric Clapton and support band Chas and Dave having a jam after the concert was worth the trip.

als - yeah Electric Light Orchestra were great, at least on their first albums. Before Jeff Lynne got too rich and disco poisoned music.
ELO brought the first laser light show to New Zealand, we kept leaping up trying to grab the beams - kids back then. It was a good concert.
Roy Wood also performed as "Wizzard", he and Leo Sayer were the first to don KISS-like make up. The Wizzard album "Brew" is a corker - though I must say I haven't heard it for thirty years!

Tokio Hotel!
Check out 'Schrei' - hard to believe they were only 14-15 years old when they recorded it. it went 22 X platinum in Europe (2005). 'Zimmer 483' (2007) - brilliant - even better if you understand German. If you don't, try 'Scream' - compilation of these first 2 recorded in English (2007) when they were 17-18.

back to best new music...possibly "Iron and Wine". The E.P. I have that they did with Calexico in 2005 is wonderful. The track "He lays in the Reins" even uses Pavarotti-like singing in places.

Of course - Ronny Jordan; acid jazz guitarist? African -American? or the Country artist Ron Jordan?

Here's a nice wee country ditty from Bill Anderson and the "Meat Purveyors"

On a lonely highway on a moonless night
A single deer launches into flight
I spin the wheel I smash the brake
On the side of the road I'm cold and shaking

I'm going to die in a car-crash
I'm going to die in a car-crash
I'm going to die in a car crash
I just know

The road is wet the hills are steep
I've miles to go before I sleep
A tractor trailer blows his horn at me
A stream of headlights makes it hard to see

I'm going to die in a car crash
I'm going to die in a car crash
I'm going to die in a car crash
I just know

I see twisted metal and broken glass
People looking down from the overpass
I hear distant sirens rushing towards the scene
I smell my blood mixed with gasoline
The rain is falling and I'm feeling cold
Like all the stories you've been told
I see my body from up above
It's the end of fear it's the end of love

I'm going to die in a car crash
I'm going to die in a car crash
I'm going to die in a car crash
I just know

Now why wasn't that number one on the country and western charts?
Have a nice day - and DRIVE SAFELY !!!

Rockandrollpress, Ronny Jordan is an African Britton (a la Lenny Henry), but you are correct about his music category, new album due out now.

Hey Adam - that crazy lyric I just posted was writ 2004. Song is on "Pain by Numbers". The Meat Purveyors are certainly not to everyones taste for sure. I suppose you'd call it punk bluegrass. They have a new album out soon also, very talented people.

I really like the new Disturbed album 'Indestructible'.

The new Immortal Technique album is epic also '3rd World.'

I’m from where the gold and diamonds are ripped from the earth,
Right next to the slave castles where the water is cursed,
From where police brutality's not half as nice,
It makes the hood in America look like paradise,
Compared to the AIDS infested Caribbean slum,
African streets where the passports an American gun,
From where they massacre people and try to keep it quiet,
And spend the next 25 years tryna deny it,
I’m from where they cut your hands off if you make a fist,
And niggaz grow coca cause the job market doesn’t exist,
Except slave labour modern day company store,
And peacekeepers don’t ever ever ever come here no more,
From where the bombs that they used to drop on Vietnam,
Still has children born deformed 8 months before they gone,
I’m from where they lost the true meaning of the Qur'an,
Cause heroin is not compatible with Islam,
And niggaz know that but grow that poppy seed anyway,
Cause that food drop parachute does not come everyday,
I’m from where people pray to the gods of they conquerors,
And practically every presidents a money launderer,
From where the only place democracy's acceptable,
Is if Americas candidate is electable,
And they might even have a black president but he’s useless,
Cause he does not control the economy stupid!

It's actually good to flip the coin over guys, listen to "uplifting" [ for want of a better term ] music as well.
I think "Flight of the Concordes" does so well, they haven't forgotten music is fun. Think Frank Zappa every now and then.
It is just more of a challenge to find what suits you, metal is great - no holds barred freedom, but to find a crooner is more of a challenge. This is why the Raising Sand album that Alison Krauss did with Robert Plant did so well. It is a good album. Makes for a nice cruise.
I will say "Disturbed" are a better band than I at first thought - I guess the name put me off [ yeah - old school guilty! ]
Lonely Island sound interesting, not heard of them . . cheers.
Anyone looked up "Comets on Fire" yet?

When my 18 year old son first heard Comets 1st album, he said, "It's like all the music ever made trying to get out of the speakers at once!"
It's such a racket it makes me crack up laughing - just don't try holding a conversation!
