mmm Maybe you don't like what you haven't listened to. Country Music rocks.. I love good old fashioned mainstream country Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, Eddie Rabbit, Tim McGaw, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Rogers...
In saying that though I like all music, I am not so ignorant in that I would dismiss one genre without giving it a chance. As long as I can hear the words and can make a connection to them - and i like the rythm and beat then it is algud to me. |

als - you surprise me. It is wrong to generalise, there are some really talented musicians taking the time to learn how to play well. Country singers are at least learning to sing properly, without the need for computers to smooth out the rough spots in their voices. The "Alternative Country" music being recorded by independent labels such as Yep Rok, Anti, Rounder, Bloodshot and Evangeline is [ along with rap and hip hop ] the most rebellious music around these days.

Hey, it's all a matter of personal taste...
I agree with you about Kiwi music, there is so much going on here now it is hard to keep up with. I have found it a little overwhelming, not knowing where to start. I have heard some of Fat Freddys Drop that I thought was really great, and many others. Any suggestions?
I have some Kiwi music, but mainly older stuff - have 4 of Human Instincts' albums, but that is old school.
I do like Billy T.K.jr he rocks. Also Kokomo, but that is trad blues. Some other older stuff, but I don't have a lot of money so like to know what I am buying.....also no broadband doesn't help. - caught a clip on da telly of a group from Rotorua, didn't catch the name but it was Phat- something or something-phat. A Maori lass on the vocals. And How!!! man, she could sing, could have listened all day. Anyone know??? |

hey marja, cool. The band on telly were pretty young. I can't get you-tube so my info is a bit limited.
But I think I'll stick with music threads; no-one likes me speaking my mind in the political ones!!
also i live out in the wops so don't get to see much live music, though we get some good sounds at the local at times. Hence my predilection to collecting records.
You guys ever come across an English music magazine called "Uncut" ? April edition in some stores at the mo'. It comes with a free CD. This months edition has a pic of the "Grateful Dead" on the cover, and a cool article on Neko Case. It is a good mag as it has heaps of info on all sorts of sounds. |

Als - Love it !! You are so right! But there is a hell of a lot of country music artists out there who have beaten you to that statement too. I couldn't tell you who's on the C & W charts, but I can tell you who's rocking their boat.
It's all personal taste.
