How many of John Denver's songs have you heard?

They were about love, family, the countryside and his three biggest concerns: the proliferation of weapons, environmental degradation and human rights.

When society is so detached from the real world (location) you cannot blame them for living in the past, it's all they know.

Re:WHY ISN:T COUNTRY MUSIC ACCEPTED IN N ... Reply to this message
Ha! Not unless they are forced to Huh?

It all depends though. I like rock'n'roll music, of course - but I don't like ALL rock music.
So it is with country music. I really like a lot of what the new 'alternative' or 'insurgent' country artists are doing. They have as much in common with punk-rock and rock'n'roll as they do with country; perhaps more.
But most of what we were brought up thinking of as country - or country and western - is just too thin on the ground for us to accept as credible. All I can say to that is - go and listen to Neko Case or Giant Sand or Calexico or the Sadies.
It ain't Tool or Metallica or Slayer, but we all mature and gain broader minds as we mature - or, at least, we should!
Heavy Metal can start to give one a head-ache after a while - especially this time of day. Listening to Edith Frost at the moment; nice - no drums.

Remember - even the "Rolling Stones" have done country; 'Wild Horses' is a classic example, and they had a strong connection to American country music through Gram Parsons and 'The Flying Burrito Brothers'. Sometimes it is fun to blur the lines between genres [ which only exist in our minds anyway] Elvis Costello recorded country music, as did 'The Knitters'. It all adds to the flavour - we eat a huge variety of foods; why shouldn't we hear a huge variety of sounds?

Johnny Cash did a lot to break down barriers with the albums he recorded before he died; nine inch nails songs etc.
There are songs that get covered by modern bands that may spring a few surprises too if young'ns knew where they started.

Re:WHY ISN:T COUNTRY MUSIC ACCEPTED IN N ... Reply to this message
rain dripping of the brim of the brim
it sure is cold today
an i am walking down sixty six
wish she hadn't done me that way
sleeping under a table in a roadside park
a man could wake up dead
but it sure seems warmer than in did
sleeping in our king size bed

is anybody going to san antone or pheonix arizona
anyplace is alright as long as i can forget ive ever known her

wind whipping down the neck of my shirt
like i aint got nothing on
but i'd rather fight the wind the wind and rain
then what ive been fighting back home
yonder comes a truck from the U S mail
people writing letters back home
tomorrow she'll probably want me back
but i'll be just as gone

is anybody going to san antone or pheonix arizona
anyplace is alright as long as i can forget ive ever known her.

charlie pride the best god damned country singer ever this man deserves a medal from the president for services to country music
