They all think Country music is Glenn Campbell and Conway Twitty.
But it ain't - it's Blaze Foley and Ana Egge. |

Very good data, no flies on Glen. "He might bring the Wichita linemen as his backing group", says my wife trying to crack a funny....
Still prefer Gene Clark. |

| From what I can see country music is widely accepted in New Zealand but whether or not anyone wants to admit that depends entirely on inebriation levels of those surveyed. |

nothing wrong with country music,
sure is better than the head banging music if you could call it music,
at least country music has a theme to the lyrics, yea and all the yodelling, I pretend I can yodel, and not into the porcalin megaphone either |

| nah man drop the yodelling. Not even country music needs yodelling. Porcelains the best place for yodelling. Won't catch Howe Gelb or Gurf Morlix yodelling . |

hey roger tibbs is the best yodelling man around, hey I may be an old fellow but still love the music, only music to listen to, apart from all easy listening, but not into hard rock,
rock n roll is ok, but the bones are getting old and worn so the rock n rollin is on the to hard list, love to throw the gals over the shoulder in the younger days,
oh the memories |

| Just finished putting new valves in my bass amp and putting new strings on my bass for a good blow out tonight in my mates garage - rock and metal, the only way to fly. Why isn't country music accepted in NZ - 'cos it's all the same tune and just different lyrics about the same thing. |

| that ain't true naff it may have been once but it ain't so now. Check out Scott H Biram. Johnny Dowd, Jim White, The Meat Purveyors, Sadies, Neko Case, Giant Sand, or even Calexico. Listen to Emmylou Harris "Wrecking Ball" album, or check out Howlin' Rain even. Watch Ana Egge do a Slaid Cleaves song on you tube. Or listen to some Blaze Foley; hell cover some of his songs! |

Emmylou Harris has always been able to put people crook when they try to peg her in any slot...
Country just happened to be where she's been 'labelled' and yet her talents were first recognised by the founder of the Byrds (crosby, roger mcguinn N co made famous for singing dylan and the easy rider cover)
sought after as a backing vocalist by classic rockers.. Neil Young, Petty, etc.. |

Yeah she developed with Gram Parsons I guess, but the force has always been strong in that one!
Music should grow and country has been moving along un-noticed to a certain extent.
You get the odd nob like Garth Brooks, like in any genre I guess, but a lot of the real good artists are still playing bars.
I like "Moonshine Willy" and "Scroat Belly" ! |

...and these days we have Neko Case, any where near as good as Emmylou or Linda. Check out "Furnace Room Lullaby" or "Behind The House" or her version of the "Sparks" song "Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth".
I wish she would tour New Zealand! |
