The Happy Wanderer
I love to go a-wandering,
Along the mountain track,
And as I go, I love to sing,
My knapsack on my back.
Chorus:
Val-deri,Val-dera,
Val-deri,
Val-dera-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Val-deri,Val-dera.
My knapsack on my back.
I love to wander by the stream
That dances in the sun,
So joyously it calls to me,
"Come! Join my happy song!"
I wave my hat to all I meet,
And they wave back to me,
And blackbirds call so loud and sweet
From ev'ry green wood tree.
High overhead, the skylarks wing,
They never rest at home
But just like me, they love to sing,
As o'er the world we roam.
Oh, may I go a-wandering
Until the day I die!
Oh, may I always laugh and sing,
Beneath God's clear blue sky |

Rush - Fly By Night
- Tom Sawyer
Those two have gotta be tied 1st for me, but there's so many other good tracks out there, and fortunately for me, time tends to weed out c***py music :D
... Wow.. We aren't allowed to say cah-rap in here... That's overkill don't you think? Its a G rated word! |

Hey odie - a RUSH fan! crazy! Full on, Geddy Lee has to be one of the greatest bass players around!
But, to pick a fav old school song; that is a big ask - "Since I've Been Loving You"
"Please Call Home"
"Shine on You Crazy Diamond"
"Incomudro; The Hymn to the Atman" [ just kidding! ]
"Xanadu"
"Like a Hurricane"
"One More Cup of Coffee"
"Oh Well"
"Come Together in The Morning"
"Black Magic Woman"
"People, Let's Stop the War"
"With a Little help From My Friends"
this list is endless, you choose...or tell me who sung each of the above...... |

Yeah the "Rain Song" is certainly a great Led Zep track.
One of my favourites is "Morning Dew". Written and recorded originally by Tim Rose I believe [ do correct me if I am wrong ] he also wrote "Come Away Melinda".
"Morning Dew" is an oft -covered song and in that way it is a fav.
Nazareth covered it in fine style on their first album, and the Grateful Dead did an extraordinarily drawn out version on their Europe '72 album.
Some early N.Z. bands also recorded it.
As for singles..[ Stairway to Heaven was never released as a single strangely enough ] I think that the Barry Ryan song "Eloise", later covered by The Damned, has to be right up there. |

nazareth.. great band :)
shame they only gain recognition by the masses with one song
(bit like pink floyd and brick in the wall)

Any heart, not tough,
Or strong, enough
To take a lot of pain,
Take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud
Holds a lot of rain

Yeah, loved their version of Joni Mitchells' "This Flight Tonight". Also "My White Bicycle" was great, and, of course "Hair of the Dog" covered by Guns 'n' Roses.
"Love Hurts", I think was written by Gram Parsons....
He and Emmylou Harris sung it together, and she wrote "Boulder to Birmingham" when Gram died, also one of the bestest songs ever........ |
