Ringo Starr's announcement Reply to this message
As of the 20th Oct he will no longer be signing any autographs and fan mail dated after this date will be tossed!

Ok... one side of me thinks HOW RUDE!!!! His fans put him in the position he is in now and he should respect them a bit more....

the other side says.... Heck the guy is 68 years old and is entitled to a bit of peace and privacy in his elder statesman years....

and another side of me (I must be a triangle!) says....
CHEAP PUBLICITY STUNT!!!

So what do your sides think?

Re:Ringo Starr's announcement Reply to this message
I doubt very much that he replies to his fan mail personally.

I've never TRIED sending him any, but I suspect some intern in a PR company sends fans a signed 8x10 and a pre-printed "thank you" note. But maybe I'm just too cynical.

Sounds like a way of getting people to think "Gee, he must still be getting a HEAP of fan-mail!", in other words, it's a cheap PR trick.

I think it is a cheap publicity trick as ever since he stopped being "Thomas the Tank Engine"'s voice he hasn't worked, hence no fans!

Re:Ringo Starr's announcement Reply to this message
I think it's rude, given the fact that the Beatles fans bought their records, etc and put them where they were in their heyday.

Re:Ringo Starr's announcement Reply to this message
wow , who would have thought so many people would get so upset over this. Surely any person has the right to dictate if he wants to sign something or read something or not.I think the sad thing would be if he was chasing fans to show he is still relevant. He has earned some privacy after 40 plus years in the spotlight. He could have said nothing but just not replyed to any fans and be called "arrogant or diffcult" but he just asked people to stop sending stuff . how many of you have "no junk mail" on your letter boxes? he is just sending the message out. good on him.

I agree Todd... it's probably the case that 90% of the stuff he gets to sign is for people who then want to sell it... I think the guy has earned his rest. The world will not stop turning if Ringo Starr doesn't sign anymore autographs.

The Beatles were not "syht" as you put it. The Beatles were, and still are legendary. They revolutionised music and paved the road for countless musicians who have come after them.

Re:Ringo Starr's announcement Reply to this message
Well, when I first read this thread, I also thought "that's just rude".
But then I thought about it longer. And I think he does kind of deserve to say that.
I mean, may be he got sick of all the 'being famous' stuff. After all, there was/is quite all of negative points involved with the beatles as well, and maybe he just got sick of it all. Having 2 of the band die, the other living one having alot of bad press over the divorce

Beatles - Yellow Submarine Lyrics

Send "Yellow Submarine" Ringtone to your Cell

In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines

So we sailed up to the sun
Till we found the sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In our yellow submarine

We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

And our friends are all on board
Many more of them live next door
And the band begins to play

We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

As we live a life of ease
Everyone of us has all we need
Sky of blue and sea of green
In our yellow submarine.

We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live ...

good on him.
he's in his 60's, two of his mates are dead, the other is more interested in nailing chic half his age (hey, good luck to him for that).

retirement must sound like a nice place to be.

toddytoad, I here you, biggest sales most influential.....doesnt mean they were the best IMO though as anyone who has a true ear for music will tell you and by that I mean someone who isnt "tone" deaf.
Personally, I think they were CR@P!

Re:Ringo Starr's announcement Reply to this message
well I luv the beatles, so whatever. The guy is entitled to have a calm, elderly life after all the years of fame. ESPECIALLY when he was in one of the biggest and most successful bands of all time.
