Labour are so for the people that they have turned the country into a nanny state. Their newest idea is to add a pressure limiter to all new showers. This is apparently to reduce the energy cost from hot water.
Believe or not, the PEOPLE are made up of INDIVIDUALS. People are not selfish for voting the way they believe they want the country run. It means that if they all do that then the majority wins the election and the PEOPLE (defined as the majority) are represented. |

yep i agree that it's a bit of a nanny state but i also think that a lot of it is stirred up by the media and tonnes of idiots get sucked up into it
OHH LABOUR THEY'RE TURNING US INTO A NANNY STATE
OHH LABOUR THEY'RE SO PC
OHH LABOUR THEY DO NOTHING BUT HAND MONEY TO THE LAZY
and for some reason people keep believing this stuff ...
y'all need to start thinking about what labour have done - working for families, kiwisaver, kiwibank, 20 hours free childcare - these things are HUGE and national were against each of them
and yes, if the way that you want the country run affects low income people/families the way that it is going to all because you want some extra change in your pocket every week (that you're probably just going to spend on luxury items anyway), then you are selfish |

What is best for the country has to be a Government that will encourage growth, infrastructure and production.
Not one that promotes welfare, dependecy and beneficiaries. |

| Whats wrong you people, do you really think that the national party is going to be the knight on a white horse, I remember the jobs for the boys - the round table - (how come they have been very quiet of late,) has someone told them to shutup. usually they are banging on about the free market and how private enterprise can perform the job so much better than the government at election time. so if thats the case how come the banking system is in so much trouble and looking down the barrel of a reserve bank bail out. |

harry - have you stopped to consider that if we all hadn't been so overtaxed for 9 years that we wouldn't need to have "Working for Families". Or as I call it "Working for Other People's Families" after 25 years of working to raise my own. It's a sad indictment of any country when working parents can't afford to feed, clothe and raise their children without receiving Welfare.
And the extra change in my pocket will go towards paying debt, paying our mortgage and saving for our retirement. Some of us don't have 30 years to put money in Kiwisaver.
I want some of the benefits of the 50 plus hours a week I work - and if that means keeping a few extra dollars then great!!
A lot of high earners got there through sheer bl**dy hard work and a lot of time. Why shouldn't they benefit from their labour? Unfortunately, it's not LABOUR that is going to do anything for them.
GO NATIONAL! |

None of Nationals current plans that I'm aware of will negativly impact those on low incomes.
While I concede that none of their plans specifically help low income families either, none of them will have a significantly negative impact to them.
As such its only reasonable that people are going to think about what affects them personally.
Question: If any political party announced that all those on incomes over $40,000 would be paying an extra 5% tax per year for the purpose of increasing Unemployment benefits, would you vote for them regardless of the negative impact?
You keep saying that Labour represent "The people". The people are in fact middle income people/families and this is who Nationals tax package are targeting the most. Those on low incomes do not make up the majority of the population and therefore cannot be considered "The People". |

oltrout i seriously hope that you are not trying to imply that people on lower incomes do not work hard and work a lot
there are a tonne of people out there working multiple jobs to get through
now i agree that people should not be having children if they cannot afford it, however the reality is that there's not a lot that you can do about it if the kids are already here is there .. no good saying 'well, you're going to have to go hungry because your parents should have thought about this earlier'. not to mention that the cost of pretty much everything has gone up a s-itload over the years so the cost of raising children now is different to the cost say 25 years ago.
i hope your children are never in the position where they will be needing government assistance to help make things easier on their families. |

chris, they have a negative impact in that they will not be getting as much out of national as they will be out of labour. and GOD HELP those on lower incomes who have signed up for kiwisaver.
i'm not sure what you're trying to get at with your 5% tax question, i have had a hard day at work and to be honest my brain is fried. in short i wouldn't be happy with this (though i don't make over 40k right now so it wouldn't affect me) - but sidenote, DESPITE WHAT YOU READ IN THE "NEWS" NOT EVERYBODY ON THE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT IS RIPPING OFF THE SYSTEM!!!!
and no, nationals tax package is targeting the rich and childless that are already better off to begin with yet are still whining. |

Never mind the painting then. The most recent Labour lie that comes to mind was on TV two nights ago when I heard her last speak.
Helen saying that John Key is promoting the dumbing of this nation.
In the last 9 years under Helen Clark, the educated people of this country have begun leaving in record numbers. The educated NZ doctors have all left over the last 9 years, you see it when you walk into any medical centre. The education system is no longer attracting the Asian students it once did because it is claimed the NZ education system is not prestigious or valuable any more. The classroom attitudes have been changed by the labour government to focus on participating rather than winning. Labour are into breeding followers, not leaders.
Labour has driven business offshore and with it, the engineering and Research and Development that goes with it.
The dumbing of the nation award, clearly goes to Helen Clark.
How dare she try to pin that on National just two nights ago! |

Why does it cost me $280 NZD for the latest pair of Asics running shoes in NZ?
The same model costs $90 USD ($160 NZD)if brought in the USA.
Yet NZ has the Chinese Free Trade Agreement that the USA does not.
Why did the Chinese free trade agreement come with an inbuilt immigration policy for Chinese workers?
No immigration policy in history has ever had this. Was the FTA not infact an immigration policy as the FTA does not reduce the price of chinese made goods like Asics in NZ shops. |

david - I am with you mate - they say, do they not, that the people get the Govt which they deserve. Haven't actually given that much credence but since I have been reading these post boards and banging my head at the stark staring stupidity that some display I can truly say I am a believer.
Incidently (and this is general conversation not directed at you david) to those that see Winstone as some sainted knight - he hasn't been cleared of anything other than directing donations through the Spencer Trust - the media seem to be totally overlooking the fact that he hasn't been cleared by the police and he is yet to acknowledge the enormous breach of trust that he displayed over the Owen Glenn saga.
Latest poll is totally irrelevant seeing as it was taken before the budget deficit blow out was made public and incompetance revealed by smirking smarmy lying Cullen. If Aunty Helen takes any comfort from it - she is more self deluding than even I give her credit for.
Go National go!!!! |

Harry - no way would I imply that people on lower incomes don't work hard. And I've worked multiple jobs to get us by - starting at 5.00am in the morning.
But throwing money at people who have more children is not necessarily the way to look after those children. I would rather they got food or clothing vouchers. At least then you would know where the money was going.
I know there are people out there who genuinely need help and I am all for helping them. But there are too many people who are milking the system, having children they have no intention of being financially responsible for, and taking whatever they can get in the way of welfare. I have worked too long and too hard to be happy about paying high taxes so they can sit at home all day and talk about how badly off they are!
If you were to give people less money for every child they had, instead of more, then watch the birth rate drop!
If my children ever need government help I hope it will be because they are too sick to work, (and I don't mean suffering from LAZYitis). We went without to help them through University and apprenticeships, encouraged them to study and learn, and instilled in them the principle that "if you want something you work for it". WE ARE NOT RICH. We are the working people of this country that Labour keep saying they represent, but don't. |
