With all the moaning about Nationals tax package....one wonders if Labour would have done anything if National hadnt announced way back that they would cut income tax..Anything to win an election...think back to last election policy of Labour to cut student loan interest after a budget which said it wasnt affordable....
Its the nature of the beast(politicians) to do "anything" to get into power....why would you spend time & energy if you didnt want power!!! |

| Although I will be voting National I would find it amusing(from Australia) if Labour got another term, how long would these rabid Labour voters keep up their support when all the productive people had left and their benefits(paid for by overseas aid) out of necessity were reduced. |

Many of you speak of liars and cheats in Labour, as though National are clean and angelic.
The main difference, is that where National is lying and cheating is behind closed doors where you cannot see it. It is called privatisation.
Private contractors bidding for and winning the right to charge you more for your resources than the government did.
And the government (National) receiving kickbacks and bribes for sales of crown resources (usually to foreign multinationals).
Telecom anyone? Postbank anyone?
Kiwisaver anyone? Kiwibank anyone?
I am not a Labour supporter. However, I think they have done quite well when you consider that 7 of their 9 years have been performed in a state of global turmoil following 9/11.
We have enjoyed a recent housing boom which has just reached its end. To all those who made excellent profit on your homes, can you say otherwise?
National would NOT have done a better job. Its EASY for them to claim so, when they never had to be tested on it.
Their economic plan does NOT promote growth. The opposite is true. Destroying a good retirement plan for NZers is not a good idea. Destroying Tax credits for R&D is NOT a good idea. Goodbye "Kiwi ingenuity".
The tax cuts are carrots for donkeys. Its a bribe to get your vote. nothing more. |

| What are you talking about spirit, there is National, Labour or minor parties that will go into coalition with Labour(even though National garnered more votes) and in the process force Labour to enact their crackpot policies. So in effect you can vote for National or Labour, any vote that is not for National is for Labour. |

bcfairlie, where the hell have you been for the last 9 years. Labour are the only ones to have betrayed NZ's. Helen and her bunch of dogs should rot for what they have done to NZ, to the hard working, law abiding kiwi. More crime than ever, longer waiting lists in hospitals, a slack education system. Labour are a joke.
Go National!! |

oltrout,
Your comments could not be more correct, well said. What is best for the country is a Government that will encourage growth, infrastructure and production, National.
Labour promotes welfare, dependency and beneficiaries.
Out they must go! |

A Serious Fraud Office (SFO) investigation into New Zealand First has cleared the party of fraud, prompting Winston Peters to label it a waste of time.
There was never anything to be investigated, Mr Peters said. He blamed ACT Party leader Rodney Hide for the investigation going ahead in the first place.
"The only complainant in this sorry episode was a sad little man in a yellow coat, so desperate for attention that he used a tawdry stunt to tie up the resources of an agency that should have been investigating serious corporate crime," Mr Peters said.
"My advice to the SFO is to go and find some real crooks."
The SFO announced in August it would investigate donations to NZ First from Sir Robert Jones and the Vela family to find out whether they were used for the purposes the donors intended.
SFO director Grant Liddell said there was no basis for fraud charges to be laid, but the way donations were channelled through the Spencer Trust may have broken other laws.
"We have found information showing that the laws relating to election returns may not have been complied with," Mr Liddell said.
"Information shows that NZ First's donations returns and the auditor's reports on those returns for 2005 and 2007 appear to be inaccurate.
"The party's election return for 2005 also appears to be incomplete."
Mr Liddell said information had been passed onto investigations currently underway by the Electoral Commission and police.
NZ First had provided "all the relevant information" to the commission and police, Mr Peters said.
He hoped the matter would be quickly resolved.
NZ First would continue with its complaint to police that some SFO officers misused their powers in reporting information to politicians on the privileges committee.
Behind closed doors, the committee considered SFO evidence relating to Mr Peters' claim he paid back his lawyer $40,000 in court-ordered costs from his failed Tauranga electoral petition.
Mr Liddell said SFO ... |

I think atht given the turmoil around the economy there will be a lot of bleatign but peopel will retain Labour going forward as tehy would not wnat to take chances on an unknown quanitity such as Keys given the uncertainty around the global economic situtation.
You would expect the same form the Americasn but they are so deep in hillbilly, cuzzy luvin, trailerpark, evangelical stupor they mat just put the killer blow in by going for more of the same with a guy with one foot in the grave and an airhead as vice. |

| more inclined to vote for none of the above... that would be a great name for a political party in the future... NONE OF THE ABOVE... it seems in the last 4 years, you didn't vote for someone as much as against someone else. A bit of a lack of options. |

I'll vote for the people that I would prefer to have as neighbours. |

"Labour promotes welfare, dependency and beneficiaries"
Although I have been disillusioned by Labour at times I have to disagree with that statement. Under Labour unemployment figures dropped to the lowest in recorded history. I used to work for WINZ in the employment field and there was a major emphasis on work being your only option. Staying on UB longterm was not acceptable.
However the system was always there to support those that genuinely needed it and that also included those who were working low income families.
Labour got it right on this one |
