oltrout; unemployment is something like 3.9% which is fantastic. that's a whole lot better than a WHOLEE heap of other countries. in other words, when you put it into perspective, there's not that many people sitting on the dole.
but yes, it could be lowered and yes, there are those who rip of the system. but the reality is there is ALWAYS going to be people who rip off the system. there are white collar criminals who rip off the system for MILLIONS - are you as worried about them as you are about people on the dpb getting a few hundred a week??
anyway, you all know the cost of living at the moment, what makes you think somebody who gets all of a few hundred bucks sitting on the dpb is going to be better off than you? my partner was on the dpb after his son's mother died and i tell you what they don't get as much money as you probably think they do. there was one point there where he was left with something like $50 per week after the bills were paid for groceries - luckily he had family to help him out at the time.
and yep these people should stop having children but the reality is they ain't going to. you need to understand that this behaviour happens over generations - these people need to be educated. |

There is no doubt that John Key is in politics for his own gain and for those in the international BIG business community that selected him. Remember that John (the gambler) Key was not even a national party member until recently.
I did some napkin calculations
If you take one dollar of every beneficiary (excluding superannuants)and gave the total to average tax payers, they would benefit by less than one cent each
My point being the beneficiaries are not eating up taxes. Roading is the single biggest expense followed by health.
I would never vote National or Labour.

National want to increase our debt
They have pledged to borrow to lower the taxes for the already wealth and upper echelon tax payers. We all know tax cuts IF any should ALWAYS lower the botoom rates so as to benefit ALL taxpayers. It is as simple as that. |

| When unemployment is low, interest rates and inflation are high - it's a standard economic corollary. Figures for unemployment rates are easily manipulated by calling unemployment benefits something else - or getting people into training but paying them, irrespective of whether they take a job afterwards. ALL taxpayers will benefit from a tax cut, it's just that the lowe tax payers will get a lowe cut because they already pay less tax. Where is the incentive to study, train whatever for a better paying job?? |

I am voting Labour, although I disagree with some of the things they have done,NZ is in a better financial position than most as the monetary world flounders and panics in today's crisis. We have a high profile internationally as peace-keepers, not war-makers. We don't blindly follow where the US goes. We have developed a reputation as independent-thinkers and mediators, not bullies. The debate around the repeal of Section 59 is uninformed. It is not about creating a 'nanny-state' but protecting our most vulnerable from a flaw in the law that allowed assault of a child with a weapon as 'reasonable force'. It does not prevent children from being killed and permanently damaged by violence, but the Campaign for Action against Family Violence is a start in attempting to do just that.
I [unlike many] am in the happy position of potentially benefiting from any tax cuts, but would prefer the money to go to increasing health access, free transport and power for the elderly, early childhood education etc. I would actually like the Labour party to go further than it has and luckily there are minor parties I can also vote for under MMP, like the Green and Maori parties who can lobby the government. Do we really want to give away the opportunity to 'keep the government honest' by getting rid of MMP? I LIKE the fact that we have our own bank in Kiwibank; and I LIKE that we have Kiwisaver. Under National's propositions for Kiwisaver there is no way that people will save as much for their retirement...it just won't happen. But they will be the people that National don't care about anyway, and some other government [hopefully] will probably have to deal with the fall-out of a burgeoning population of elderly with no way of meeting their costs.
I find it interesting that people on this site actually think it is important what politicians look like, or what gender they are...get over it! Take responsibility for finding out about their policies, and vote for the party! |

What a load of tripe - you have all been brainwashed by the
communist Labour party - they (labour) will eventually tell you how many children you can have etc etc, they have already started interfering with family life in NZ and made most people beholden to the government for a handout. |

Yes, I will still be voting National - why not. They are the only ones that have been honest about having to cut Kiwisaver to give us all tax cuts. Do you honestly think that Labour won't be cutting Kiwisaver, Working for Families, etc. if they get in. How can they afford not to?
With 800,000 people signed up to Kiwisaver, that is $800 million of taxpayer money giving as start-up "incentives", plus another $800 million plus a year going in tax credits to employees and employers. How can the country continue to afford that, and give tax cuts, and increase Working for Families - all so called Labour plans.
There are those who cannot manage to join Kiwisaver - 4% of their money is just too much - yet they are paying for it with their taxes. The Government are taking more money in GST. Food prices have risen 10.8% this year, so a family spending $150 a week on food is no better off for their $16 tax cut - they are back to where they were a year ago. And that's before we think about petrol, power, etc.
Michael Cullen has opened the books and found them empty (surprise, surprise!). He has come out and said there will be deficits for the next 10 years. He said the "recession" and the financial downturn took him by surprise - and he is supposed to be our Finance Minister! Doesn't this man read any reports - or the newspapers - or watch the news!
If Labour get back in - God forbid - then I believe there are going to be a lot of nasty surprises for people. If Labour managed to empty the coffers in just one year, think how deeply in debt we would be with another three years of the same. They would either have to borrow, or cut benefits. It's a no brainer really - do the maths! |

| Great to read the benefit mentality thoughts here....half of them probably Winston Peters supporters because he sticks up for the "battlers" also - yeah right...thats why the horse set like him so much...Labour is the battlers party - yeah right. You people are living in the 1950's - labour has moved way past the centre since then, into the world of corporate greed which by the way is where the taxes are paid for to pay the benefits, welfare, health, etc....idiots, you dont even understand the realities of the world....Unemployment 3.9% - yeah right, thats a consequence of moving unemployed onto health and other benefits....wake up NZ, you have just been screwed for 9 years because you are to dumb to form your own opinions. |

| In a matter of weeks most of you have changed your attitude already. I said about 2 weeks ago when everybody were saying "get rid of Helen"" get rid of labour" A none stop moan moan moan about labour. And i was saying on here ... I wonder what people will moan about this time next year ?? Will it be " Come back labour " " Come back Helen " Because i know this is going to happen. Its already happening, the distrust . Forget about Helen and her private life. ( Got nothing to do with us ) She is a fantastic leader, who will look after the poorer people, and will not borrow and get us back to the " THINK BIG ", because she got us out of that cr@p. She is a great leader...And I for one wont chance my mind. I stick with labour. And i wont be like one of you,, sorry that you voted for national,, because this man is not to be trusted and knows nothing about LEADING. |
