i am still voting national at least for this elections coz:
- national is the only party so far who has presented a clear future vision for NZ
- and bcoz it is not labour
-bcoz no matter how arrogant they really are..at least they try to yhide it ...unlike labour who hav become so arrogant they will tell anyone to juts stuff it ...
-also, national does represent the majority AT THE MOMENT ..AL THE MAJOR POLLS SHOW THAT MORE THAN 50% OF nzERS SUPPORT THEM ..
so how can they represent a minority ? ..even the younger generation supposedly devout labour n green supporters are supporting National ..the number of younger than 30 people who support national is almost as similar to the number of young people who support labour ...
- look at john key's apperance in waikato university last week ...most of the students there were rather positive about him ..if helen clark comes, she would get receive a negative support ... |

I understand that a lot of the people posting here are concerned about what they hear on the news and read in the newspapers ... and that is a good sign. What is concerning is that they do not investigate the matters further and see what is not reported in the news and newspapers.
Just to help a little bit ... and remember I am NOT a Labour party member and have never voted for Labour.
1. We have less international dept than under any previous government?
2. For the first time in history government surpluses are invested in super FOR THE PEOPLE.
3. The people most affected by the 'gift' from National is those that can afford it least ... Low and Middle income earners.
I encourage all to read the tax policy in detail and not just the Newspapers. The tax policy is very short sighted and have a very short lifespan.
By 2011 return from both parties will be the same - the only exception will be that under National we won't have KiwiSaver anymore and the employer will contribute 0% to Super. |

Looking at labour have achieved in the last two years that I have resided in NZ.Health system under threat(lake of staff, long waiting periods, virus outbreaks etc). Financial sector in a mess, three months ago tax excess of two million dollars, today in deficit. Anti smacking law only creates little monsters we can control and later become hardened criminals(just like in the US).Law and order, when I arrived in NZ there were 19 murders throughout the year 2006. The first month in 2007 we had 14 murders(no explaination needed)
Key is looking at health, law and order(give crimanals what they deserve--NOTHING).Hopeful ly getting rid of a law that was implemented to stop the radicals from betting there kids to pulp, to making common law abbiding citizens criminals. Kids need guidance and I know if I didnt get the odd hiding I wouldnt be who or what Iam today.Finance --Key is business man who will look after the fiscal polocies of NZ. He has proven himself within the financial arenas and dont tar this man with same brush as all executives at Merryl Lynch as he was a very small part of the organisation.
I THINK KEY IS THE MAN AND HOPE WE GET RID OF ALL THE UGLINESS IN POLITICS(EXCUSE THE PUN) |

I agree vote National.
How can you trust Labour when they have just purchased 78 hectares of land in the South Island. He is really going to benefit from that when we are going into recession. Is it just a tramping playground for Helen. How many operations could that have paid for. You don't hear a lot about her policies at present, just her slamming every one elses's. |

Am I the only person who has noticed that when a Labour Govt changes to a National Governement a frenzy of spending has occured in the previous terms. Think of Cullen's Tax Cut he said we can not afford! National seldom inherits a healthy fiscal situation. Incidentally, the only time I voted Labour was to get Muldoon out of office. He proved to be a socialist masquerading as National.
Labour's philosophy of making people dependant on government is abhorrant! More civil servants, more beneficiaries, more hand-outs, more funding for minorities (remember the Hip Hop fiasco? ). Plus the jobs for the boys as already has been mentioned! In the last nine years TEN (10) times a Labour minister has been disciplined (or temporarily sacked) for being a bad girl/boy! What does that tell you of the standard and integrity of people that Labour attracts?--they go into politics for two things only: MONEY + POWER . Money to advance themselves and Power to tell YOU how to run your life and spend YOUR hard earned dollars! National are no angels but compared with the current lot they are at least not embarrassing!
Clearly the key to a better future lies with Key. |

| Koaiu, your key dosnt work because you have had a government for the last 9 years that have invested nothing into this country's future. They have spent some of the best economic times in the global economy pursing crazy idiotic social policies that have positioned this country on the road to nowhere. Go the Blues!! |

huh? 2007 there was a decrease in the homicide rate on the previous year.
Check your facts.
Poll Vote believers.
Polls serve the media and reel out cool thread titles.
Helen has never faltered from her main core base unlike all the other parties.
Remember when NZ tv was saturated with the yank elections? Gore and that really good looking guy with the greek sounding name. They were flying in the polls. Fat lotta good that did.
Same reason why I think Holden's are the best cars ever.
('Cept eets blahdy Rstrailean.)
And No one will buy them because TV get paid more polling the Ford and Honda bunch. |

The problem here really is a lack of choice;
1) Labour are a weak, reactionary government (somewhat imposed upon it by both the MMP system and the short parliamentary term.)
2) National are only interested in giving benifits to the already well off (do the figures on their tax cuts if you earn $250k a year and don't need to put money into KiwiSaver for your retirement!)
But there is no vialble alternative to vote for. |

Agree with you 100% !!!!This country has been heading downwards for the last 9 years under this bullying government.
I am really looking forward to the abolishing of MMP, which we will get a vote for under National and they have promised (and I believe them) that they will abide by the referendum.
Think the men in white coats are looking for longbayjane, there is a bed waiting for her/him !!!!!! |

Totally National - go go go you good things.
We have however benifitted personally from the Labour Governments policies. How many of you Labour lovers have stopped to think that some of the blame for totally out of orbit farm land prices have come about through the Govt buying up huge tracts of farmland with the tax payers cheque book. I do not know the full acreage but Molesworth and this latest Station aquisition would make the faint hearted weep.
Personal experience - station bought in King Country - was priced so high that there was not a lot of interest - in comes Landcorp with your chequebook - yes yours you blue collar poorly paid types and pays the asking price. They then proceed to door knock on all neighbouring farmers doors and say "name your price". Tough luck for the shepherd who dreams of farm ownership! Land prices increased in that one valley alone!
Then there is the high country tenure review. Someone in the Labour Govt came up with the great idea of reviewing rentals on all the high country which was actually all owned by you and I - they didn't need to buy it back. Rents went so high farmers threatened to give up leases - why not be able to freehold the land. Great idea says the pointy headed ones - only problem is that then the farmers think this is alright and set about selling all the flat land to American's and others who can afford it - no that is not you - you Labour party supporters. Huge sell off of the country's jewels and then we have the Prime Minister telling us how bloody lucky we are that they have bought Molesworth and St Stevens for us - if that does not sum up the total incompetance, two facedness stupity for even the most die hard - it is Labour it must be good and it is National therefore it must be bad idiot I do not know what will - and this is just a fraction of the stupidity that has prevailed in the last nine years. |

"Xtra ,the majority are the low income to middle class that National dont really help but want votes from.
There will be more bineficiaries if National make the rich richer and allow companys to take more power back."
A puzzling comment!
Since when did companies have more power? Are you talking about unions?
That low to middle income class you mention get their money from companies so we better look after the companies don't you think?
I've tried some of Andertons business initiative and assistance, I can tell you its a laugh, just a thinly veiled excuse to employ more public servants. The current government has put shackles on all business small or large which I'm sure you would approve of.
And where does the government get its money from to look after beneficiaries? I suppose you think it just prints more dollar notes right? |

| It's very, very simple indeed. Asked about his investments on camera re the rail saga - John Key lied- and it was obvious to every viewer that he knew he was lying, then he did it again, then - unbelievably - he did it yet again, and each time he looked more guilty, more nervous, less sure - then you could actually see the moment he chose to try and get out of the hole he was disappearing into. Evidentially, John Key overwhelmingly came across as a lier. Helen Clark IS NOT. Mr. key, the last thing any country needs is a lier to head their government; history clearly shows us the end result of that sort of democracy and government. |
