I sent a response to Close Up last week on the state of elderly care and particularly the low wages of caregivers and was suprised to see it read out, my statement read
Its symptomatic of the values of modern western society that we pay those that look after our money, more, than those that look after our Mothers! |

| That's great of you :-), to take the time and write a letter in. Yes caregivers are extremly underpaid, we will have to do someting about that very soon with all the baby boomers retiring. |

mana, not sure what happened to that thread, but i think it did get started again, i'm with you hayden on the lack of tv viewing, unless it is true life and informative, i fully tautoko you jamimie concerning our elders, kind of a slap in the face with the wassup badges costing a fortune, ending up in the bin, yet carers get paid between 10-14 buks an hour, where's the logic?
well this thread has been interesting and typical from the rednecks, maybe i had too much hope that they would be so brave, and once again we keep the home fires burning, no wonder they run a mile when i stamp my feet and aue, is that a big stick in my hand?!!! nah just something to hold onto down the beach to throw to my dog!!!!! |

| In reality there is an awful lot people who would not know whats happening if they didnt watch these types of programmes. How have "real intellectual thought" processes improved the conditions for caregivers? Its sadly usually those processes that keep people exactly where they are. |

nite babe and yes about affirmative action. My stance on low wages for caregivers put me in a position many years ago that saw me resign in the role as a caregiver purely on principle. And I loved my job and was good at it. I'll always put my money where my mouth is.
