anita.bishop@xtra.co.nz Im not high income Ive always flatted and had to budget my money, I would love to live all by myself but it would leave me stretched. I would love sky, and to have a pet dog and all those lovely things but I cant afford it so I don't. So don't make out that I'm rolling in it I make my own way and adjust my lifestyle to suit I don't expect anyone to hand me money for nothing because of my choices.

Good on you Inbound - totally agree.
Lyssette - I don't think anyone has an answer that will make everyone happy. no - I don't want a piece of the cake - that is my point - I have decided I don't need it. One day I might need it, and will appreciate the support. But for now, I am happy to work hard, get rewarded accordingly, and not have to winge about how little I get for sitting on my backside waiting for handouts. I am proud that I can support myself, and have the intelligence and motivation to do so. To all the bludgers out there - if you don't like where you are - take some initiative and change your situation. To the genuine cases out there - Sorry - I am working as hard as I can, and cannot afford to pay you any more than what I am. |

cripple, if the money is that good on the dole, why aren't we all on it? i mean the ole saying, if ya can't beat them then join them! if the dole money is paid for by our taxes, why then should the benefit have tax breaks? bit silly.

yea well.... i am on a sickness benefit and can only work 13 hours a week which i do. i pay secondary tax on this bit of work which makes it hardly worth working but i do! i dont qualify for any of the tax cuts as they dont apply to benefits, apart from superannuiants and they dont apply to secondary tax either.and YES we do get taxed on benefits and NO i dont get any tax rebates at the end of the financial year either. my husband is also on a sickness benefit after being self employed for over 40 years and it certainly aint no bed of roses for us. we go nowhere except to paknsave once a week and i of course go to work....we live on eggs bread pasta tea and coffee. we pay home and contents insurance, car insurance, get a small cut in our rates, power and phone... and YEP i do have the internet but we dont drink or smoke and need some sort of entertainment which the internet gives us. there is no bus service that accomodates my work hours so i must drive. we dont go to the doctors unless it is absolutely neccessary. and i get sick of hearing full time workers who slam beneficiaries for being lazy and bludgers. YES i do know there r a lot of those out there but when we all get lumped into one bunch it really gets up my nose!

The whole we pay tax on what the government gives is a crock, what your paid is worked on on what you get in the hand. Secondary tax is utter bollock I don't agree that you should have to pay that and while neither of you work (I don't know what ales you both and this is by no means a personal attack) But have you considered giving any of your time to volunteer work? If your able and can work you should work simple as that, if you are genuinely sick or elderly yes the system should be there for you and if there were less free loaders on the system there would be more money available to help those that need it.

volunteer work is fine for those that have the time, and no cripple i work, more than one job, i earn good bucks, but why should i pay secondary tax when i know who it goes on, funding those that hard work would kill.

you may have to be more specific cripplemronion to which service of the benefit you are referring to.If its the unemployment benefit i agree that they should just shut up and take what the system has given them.Or get a job.But these decisions are made and handed down by the Government.
