At least they speak the same language properly, work hard and don't committ crime.
They are a minority compared to some of the other races here, other races who don't speak english or fill up our jails.
Without intergrating makes me laugh, asians don't try to integrate at all.
Or is it just because most of the UK people are of european descent?, meaning they are white. |

| Why only the UK ? On the extremes mentioned in this statement, nearly all immigrants from Europe, America, and so on would apply. Maybe the writer should emigrate ? |

| I think you need your head read or need to travel. Remember where most of NZ came from 165 years ago. They work hard and dont commit crime. There are lots of cultures in NZ that dont intergrate and these guys are not one of them. I would love the British living next to me as they are a good crack.... |

| Im Maori and I LOVE the UK. Went there last year and I was blown away looking at buildings that were older than our country!! I have found that the Brits integrate better into Kiwi life than the Pakeha who are still struggling to figure it out. Yeah they can whine but I find that better than backstabbing - at least you know where you stand when you hang out with a whingey Pom. We have come here from the UK, my husband is doing a job that is on the skills shortage list, Lots of immagrants from the UK are highly skilled people doing jobs over here that not enough NZs are able or cant be botherd to train to do.
Dont blame us for high house prices, my husband works 12hr days, pays taxes, puts money back into the econemy, we have been here 13yrs and have never asked for a handout, We pay our own way. Where and how we choose to live is our own buiness as we are the ones paying for it, |

| We are not actually the POMS as we came here of our own free will. Us POMS most definitely intergrate into NZ culture more than any other race. We also have to pass very strict Immigration regulations which aren't cheap. If we have no skill, no job we can't come! I love living in New Zealand and love the KIWIs too!! |

| jst started reading ths thread and cant realy understand why the heck ne one would start it in the first place. i totaly agree with gumby1 who wrote 2 days ago,you r rite. i actualy live with a man from the UK and i dont c n e diference betwn he and i. britain hapens to b our mother country for crying out loud, we r part of the commonwealth. if they cant b welcome in our country wel theres soumething seriously rong here. the queen and royal family r part of this country and unlike maori, if we pakihas dont have that as our history and cultural heritage that should be preserved then what the heck culture do we have. there are alot of cultural and racial groups in NZ now but for alot of us this is our past.i dont c them breaking off into groups and separating themselves they just blend in n understand our ways cuz thats where alot of our roots n ways are from. your comments seem very personal and i wonder where they rely stem from. brits r a o k. my partner is a gem and infact earns money off shore and spends all of it in NZ so hes a real asset in my view. cant c many ppl out there agreeing with YOUR whinge. |

| Pom or Pome isnt a bad term. it ,means prisoner of mother england. At any rate if we stop migration from anywhere our country will dry up and blow away as we are losing so many kiwis to overseas..Id rather have the poms as at least they have a similar culture to us. (so long as they dont whinge and lose gracefully to the AB's |

| an old frien of mine told me that the word pom is just short for the word P.O.M.E, whic stood for prisoners of mother england,which were convicts of english,irish and scottish ancestary,and that is why there is a difference between poms and englishman |

"Prisoner of Mother England" or "Prisoner of his/her majesty" are probably false...the truth is that no-one actually knows the origin of POM or POME. Another couple of contenders are:
1. "prisoner of Millbank", after the area of London where prisoners were held prior to transportation;
2. "pomme", French for apple. The joke was that the pale British would turn red, like an apple, with sunburn when they landed in Australia
Incidentally....the french call the english "rosbif from the English style of cooking roast beef!
All taken in good humour...I'd like to think |

| I live in Howick, and have no problem with immigration from Asia, that is Korea, China, Cambodia, Vietnam etc. These people are hard-working, and totally unintimidating. The way they drive may be a little dodgy at times, but otherwise their behaviour in public is generally a good example to the rest of us. |

Stopping migration from the UK is the most stupid idea I have heard in a long time.
Migration from any country is good providing we need the skills and talents of the people who want to come here.
I think than these people would be more productive than Agfan or Sudanese imports.
Look as the success of refugees from Vietnam and those from Europe after WII. The great % have been very successful in creating business and owning their own homes - they are not afraid of hard work!
We need to step up migration and start getting tough on those Kiwis who never contribute, but bludge of the state! |

More than lightly,the ones that have poor english skills dont.They need time to learn the language and the people.Once they have,they do intergrate,its just you havent spotted it! Most business is multi racial now.Has to be because all the skilled kiwis are going.
My mrs is chinese!! So is she not intergrating then? Look at all the kiwi men with asian women!!!This has become a more common scenario in new zealand now.Given time,the whole of New Zealand will be fully intergrated.You could say watered down.The next generation will be the proof.
We have a lovely 3 year old boy and we get some strange looks from people when we walk through Malls.I think people are shocked how western my boy looks.When the mrs is on her own with him,people cant believe she is his mother.
When i walk along with them,i consider we are an advert for Multi cultural.I am proud of who we are=Welsh/kiwi(me),chines e/kiwi(mrs),kiwi/kiwi(son ).
I have met people from all over the world here,without having to step on a plane!They all have something different to offer.Good for your personal growth.I prefer to treat people as individuals not as ethnic groups.
I have been to china and found them very welcoming to me and i cant speak a word of mandarin.I think we could be a bit more forgiving and welcoming to them also.They bring money into our economy. |

| Being unable to speak english ISN'T a crime in NZ. However, there are a lot of ethnic minorities in new zealand who stick with their folks and create a "little home" of their motherland here. It is not their fault, because its the human nature to stick with what you are familiar and comfortable with. Integration takes time. You can't bring an indian to this country and expect him to get married to a kiwi girl straight away and eat spag bol. Unfortunately, some people sees these ethnic clusters as targets because while they don't integrate, they are successful and it comes across as a threat. |
