Re:I believe in jesus
Constantine - (possibly) AD 288 - 337. And yes, the christian faith had been knocking about for several hundred years already. Its main doctrines and creeds however, were not united into one easily understood control mechanism for the masses until Constantine made it so.

- Allen

<< sighs >>

Thank you for articulating it so well - for an agnostic that is lol :P

Deecee - have you heard of THE REFORMATION??? Any idea WHY that came about???

Re:I believe in jesus
decee - I reiterate my former point. Which part of this concept threatens you so much? And no, my claim was not unequivocal. It is point of view. I have not suggested at any point that it is my life held belief, nor have I forced the claim upon another with religious fervour or dogma. That would be akin to me asking you to prove to me the existence of your god - and not based upon bleeding heart belief and blind faith.
Evidentially, much exists in worldly knowledge to support many theories pertaining to the Jesus and Mary chain being a rendition of earlier interpretations.however, you seem to have found your god, your love and your way.
That you may seek evidential support of the highest order, and accuse me of being intellectually dishonest, serves only to display your lack of love which you disguise as love.

Re:I believe in jesus
I can not believe that those who imply that as christianity has been around for 3000 odd years, that it is the winner.

Paganism was around for much longer prior to said christianity, oh and by the way STILL is, even if currently in much reduced numbers.
So moot point.

bc - I doubt anyone is saying that Christianty is a winner due to its historical age. Its a winner due to its God.

Re:I believe in jesus
bc - I cannot believe that those who are the most fanatic among believers probably spent more time choosing their motor vehicles and clothes than they spent choosing their belief!...or is it that their parents did such a good job of squashing any individuality (read, love) in them, that they are incapable even perhaps scared to look outside of their indoctrinations.Like I suggested in a prior post, seek and ye shall find - but dont get too twisted if it rubs you up a bit.

Re:I believe in jesus
lisa - closed minds are closed to love. That which they deem as love is genuine in their own mind, but their relection of it (since it never goes through them)serves only to settle for false love.

Re:I believe in jesus
whaaa? okay, yep, the book of the dead, huh? Haven't read it personally, but have studied about it briefly (like, for a week) and I can see where you get that idea, from the weighing of the heart and stuff. I don't know enough to refute it, so I won't say anything, but the Constantine stuff- has someone been quoting the Da Vinci Code or am I mistaken?

Re:I believe in jesus
also powley - I am not suggesting that Christianity does in fact pre date Christ. The suggestion is that christianity is based on much earlier beliefs but was adapted to suit the time. One could call it religious evolution designed to suit the fashion of the day.

Re:I believe in jesus
lisa - closed minds are closed to love.

- Allen

I seriously cannot identify or relate to people who are like that.

Ever since I was a little girl - I possessed this intense desire to ask questions. I wanted to KNOW what, why and how lol. Oh yes indeed I was a terror that way but I couldn't settle down or relax until I had answers.

Since then I have LOVED the constant process of learning. In fact I still embrace it with ardent passion. It is what rejuvenates the mind and soul as far as I am concerned.

Some things about us never change - irrespective of age :)

What has the "Da Vinci Code" got to do with Constantine?
what has the "Da Vinci Code" got to do with anything.
It is only a novel.

Suggestion???? What?? Come now - it's a fact!!!

Where did I learn this??? IN CHURCH of course!!!! I was brought up in a very reformed protestant church. A church that was very aware of how the christian religion began and WHY the reformation was necessary!!!

Re:I believe in jesus
my point exactly. It's only a novel... because someone confronted me the other day and said, how can you believe that stuff, Jesus was real but the church and constantine and the council of nicea fabricated everything... and eventually after about ten minutes of sparring and going nowhere fast, he admitted that he got his facts from the Da Vinci code... you guys are smarter than that but I'd be interested to see if any of you started questioning after watching/reading it. Controversy is fine by me, but taking a movie as fact ain't.

Re:I believe in jesus
On the subject of controversy....The Mel Gibson version of jesus....you show concern sonia that making a "fact" movie out of a novel is not fine - re: Da vinci code - how many non christians do you think were very upset by Mel Gibsons film???? I guess thats not "fine ' either???
