hey all. Just thought I would give you an interesting 'link'
http://www.hamsa.org/index.htm
go to that and have a look at the section "jesus christ:myth and reality.
you may even learn by looking, as a part of it does explain the origins of the word christian, |

Whatever the nature of Woman is, your remark was tasteless and obscene. You shame the nature of Men.
I wonder what your fellow christians think of you....I would imagine that most would find you and your remarks quite disgusting. |

xav - hi - we all get it wrong sometimes - even you! The point is to move forwards and forgive and forget and not dwell in the past. The statement is not worth getting hung up over. Lifes too short. Let it go.
If you are looking for perfection in people then please never look to the Chrisitians as they are the ones that are openly recognising their need for God in their lives to forgive their sins. Thats why he died for us. You will never find a perfect Christian. |

Also xav - its not right to throw an extra burden of judgement over people with faith. Who are you to assume that they should be better people. You don't know their lives and their struggles. Needing God does not eliminate the human and make instant perfection.
The reason I call myself a fence sitter on these MBs is for the very reason that I got fed up with the judgement from many of you. Some of you need to find your own reality and leave us to enjoy ours. If the faith pisses you off so much then stop coming here!
Go and play with people you enjoy. Or is it that it gives you great inner strength to be so argumentative and to mock people???
The Christians I know have all the same sorts of struggles and temptations in life as the non christians I know. The key difference is that one group recognises their need for Gods love and forgiveness. The other group don't. BUT we all get on great, party together and manage to live a decent life without all the mocking and judgement. Of course if they weren't like that then I would have ditched their friendships years ago. |

While I can appreciate where you are coming from personnally with your religious perspective, there is something I need to clarify. yet again.
Which is.
Christianity is more than just a quiet little back street fad.
It is also a political power that wields much influence.
Many proponents, particularly the "bible believer" variety (as we have earlier discussed) are out there, and on here for that matter, touting their cause and endevouring to "convert" the unsuspecting.
That is their right.
Equally there are many who do not accept this supposed "good news".
Many infact, that refute christianity and consider it wrong, or shall we say (politely) think it a bad idea.
These "infidels" are equally passionate to dissuade any and all against turning to christianity.
That is their right.
So in essence, as long as the believers are here wanting to be believed then the infidels will be here also, countering.
If that involves " mockery' then so be it.
It is just silly for the believers to expect infidels to take aspects of the bible seriously. Or, accordingly to respect those expounding it.
Simple fact. This thread is in a PUBLIC domain.
So let debate continue................. ....
Today is ANZAC Day. I am sure that we all agree to respect our fellow country men and women whom have served us all, regardless of religious standing.
regards

Laurence...
I have looked at the two websites you referenced. I will for the moment ignore the fact that both sources are explicitly antagonistic to Christianity. What is more damning is that both sites are awash with significant historical and factual error. To save time, I will reference just one frome each site.
1) The council for secular humanism link redirected to http://www.secularhumanism.org/index.php?section=l ibrary&page=paul_23_4
I quote directly from that link: "According to standard biographies, the principal N#zi leaders were all born, baptized, and raised Christian. Most grew up in strict, pious households where tolerance and democratic values were disparaged. N#zi leaders of Catholic background included Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Reinhard Heydrich, and Joseph Goebbels."
If by 'catholic background' they mean born a cathlic, well maybe. But it's what they believed as adults that matters. And here's a sample on Mr Heinrich Himmler...
http://www.historynet.com/heinrich-himmler-the-n#z i-leaders-master-plan.htm
"Himmler despised Christianity, a religion that preached compassion for the weak and the brotherhood of all men and accepted a Jew as the son of God."
http://www.worldfuturefund.org/wffmaster/Reading/G ermany/himmler.religion.htm
"We will have to deal with Christianity in a tougher way than hitherto. We must settle accounts with this Christianity, this greatest of plagues that could have happened to us in our history, which has weakened us in every conflict. If our generation does not do it then it would I think drag on for a long time."
"If we do not secure this moral foundation which is the deepest and best because the most natural, we will not be able to overcome Christianity on this plane and create the Germanic Reich which will be a blessing for the earth. That is our mission as a nation on this earth."
Contd... |

Laurence...Contd...
2) I quote from the hamsa.org site:
"John's gospel states that Jesus was not fifty years old when he died, so that Jesus must have been born around 22-15 BC. Eusebius places his death in 22 AD, which takes his birth to 9 BC if he was 30 when he died, to 12 BC if he was 33, and to 28 BC if he was nearing 50."
Laurence this is not only poor history, it is sloppy scholarship.
If you refer back to my disussion wih droich (starting around page 643) you will see that there is comprehensive historical evidence for a birth date for Jesus at between 4 and 6 BC. This is also the dates generally accepted by biblical scholars and historians.
In summary, these sites contain the same sloppy research many of the fundamentalist atheist sites display.
If you are serious in pursuing truth, rather than staisfying your own presuppositions, I would encoage you towards some independent research. |

The Christians should just admit they are Islamists with the Bible being an edited version of the Koran.
The Buddhists and the Hare Krisna's would simply smile.
And the Hindu's would throw a delicious party.
Yep.
Peace. |

that comment is sooo patently stupid I must assume you are just trying to wind people up,
Sometimes it is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt as you have with this statement.
If you want to argue about Jesus or the bible at least do some homework, Laurence B must be rolling on the floor laughing at you after that comment, and he's on your team.
Have a nice day mate , take some time to read and do some research mate. |

| hi bc and xav...thanks for your comments re my parenting. It has not been easy. After many years of heartache, my wife and I adopted a wonderful russian baby boy in 1997, and then a beautiful russian baby girl in 2001. They are the greatest kids alive (LOL), but they didn't come with an instruction manual, just good lungs and hungry tums. My son was 8 months old when he was handed to us in a St Petersburg orphanage, wearing not so much as a nappy. When we adopted our daughter, she was 18 months old, malnourised and filthy. Like any parents, we have learn't as we go. Now at 12 and 9, they are great kids, but the teenage years are just around the corner! |

Hardly a protest dear m&g more an observation of irrefutable truth, besides which I am no lady :-)
Indeed it does trickle and blow, but that is the weather for most ANZAC days.
9 dead already on the roads.
A good day for a few choice words and a number of texts on comparitive religion and social relativism...

just thought as we quoting "the bard" i would throw one in too, I suppose I could have used the "trouble trouble" quote from Mcbeth with the three witches but I was just keeping it light hearted.
This thread has been going around and around for quite some time now , the same arguements, the same replies its all just circumlocution because too many don't either read the replies or are not open to anyones view but their own, all fairly futile but sometimes fun.
Its gets a bit abusive from time to time but I guess thats either ignorance or frustration ,sad when people get abusive to others , not really adding depth to their arguements.
Have a great day, and in the words of Dave Allan, may your god be with you because I know the love of God and my Lord Jesus Christ are with me. |

I find your defense of this pathetic piece of stinking exrement, namey futz, to be offensive.
This jerk said..." have you run out of pads or t a m p on s"... and you find that to be both excusable and forgiveable. I wonder if it had been me sending some such remarks to you if a forgive and forget attitude would have been forthcoming. But of course, you would say, Yes. Not that I would dream of sending such a remark. I do NOT claim to be perfect but I claim to be reasonably behaved and polite... not filthy of mind and mouth. My respect for you has vanished. |

xav - sorry to burst your bubble but you are one of the least polite on this thread. Seriously take a long hard look in the mirror. The large majority of your comments are mocking and rude. Perhaps not crude - fair enough - but none the less rude and nasty.
You are intollarant and arrogant at best!!! Seriously! |

M&G,
A great name for a fashion brand. Truly!
It is 'Hubble Bubble! Toil and Trouble!'
Yeah they do become orbital and Cyclopean it is true.
The fact of the matter is that Human wisdom is perrenial and no one culture owns it.
The sad thing is when so-called Christians disobey their leaders advice of Love your Neighbour... They speak the words but don't do the deed.
The Vedas are magnificent if you ever get the chance to have a little read, so is the poetry of Rumi a brilliant Islamist. |
