Revellers who snort the animal tranquilliser ketamine for an hallucinogenic high may face incontinence and other health problems as new dangers of this cheap party drug start showing up in long-term studies.
Doctors in Hong Kong, where ketamine took off as a party drug about a decade ago, have recently found that heavy users have poor bladder control and are prone to long-term liver damage.
"The worst cases are in young people who have to empty their bladders every 15 minutes. They can't even take a bus ride without alighting and going to the toilet," said Ben Cheung, a psychiatrist who works with ketamine users.

Hey Dana, glad to see everything went well matey.
I would complain to to the health board though, they didn't keep you in long enough to have fun with the nurses lol.
Those phantom feelings will get you every time mate, just don't use your crutch toi scratch your foot.
My Grand pa used to do that and wore a whole in the carpet in front of his favorite seat lol
Next Phase, fitting for the prosthesis, how long do you have to wait?? |

Good morning to all you Phine, Phunny and Phantastic people ...
Hey David -
Outpatient appointment in two weeks time and then all going well - as it is at the mo' - I'll meet with the physio to learn how to strap this sucker, and THEN about two weeks after that I'll be off to the Artificial Limb Centre in Hamilton to start the process with the prosthesis -
If you've never been there before (and why would you ?!?!) ...
~ The fitting process begins with the clinical prosthesist (CP) measuring the stump and entering the data into a CAD programme;
~ He then e-mails that info to Wellington where a person uses the measurements to carve (probably also by a computer-assissted machine) a blank out of polystyrene;
~ The poly blank is sent back to Hamilton where the CP lays clear perspex over the it and literally sticks it into an oven;
~ That process - measure; carve; return blank - takes about two weeks at which time I return to have the perspex socket fitted. Being clear they can see whether full-contact is made between the stump and socket;
~ Any necessary adjustments are made in Hamilton, and then they start to construct the completed socket over the poly blank;
~ Not sure how long that part takes but in the meantime we'll have discussed my needs and lifestyle and that sorta stuff to determine the type of 'knee-joint' (which can cost up to $5000 if you had to pay!!!) I'll have fitted to the socket;
~ Early indications were that I'd have a hydraulic joint, but I'm not sure whether it is gas-filled or some other means. The beauty of a hydraulic knee comes into play if you are walking downhill or stairs and the knee 'collapses', the hydraulics halt the immediate collapse and therefore any stumble or fall;
~ Once the prosthesis is good-to-go, the first ones are usually good for six months, during which time shrinkage of the stump often occurs. After that point the prosthesis usually needs replacing every twelve months due to wear-and-tear; |

All puns aside, I'm itching to get on with it, but I also know that I need to slow down and let the wound heal before I start exercising the stump -
