| Just read in the news that Police will be armed with Taser guns in NZ - heck of a good idea I think. However Green MP Keith Locke is very opposed to these "painful" devices -what a complete ass -I'm sure a baton or gun is equally as painful. I'm sure if you get stunned by one of these guns then you obviously deserve it. |

| Its BAD. Should be using REAL guns instead. If you disobey you will get shot! If you don't want to get shot, don't disobey. Its easy!!! |

Some of the do-gooders against Tasers expect police to "reason" with some of the idiots they have to deal with....."excuse me mister crimminal , can you please desist from what you are doing and sit in the naughty corner".
If some lunatic is coming at you with a knife, bat or fists I would feel very comforted that you could stop with a zap of the taser. In alot of cases just the threat of using it scares the bejesus out of people |

| I agree completely, too much emphasis is put on the rights of the criminal with no thoughts for the victims. |

Good. So long as used only where absolutely necessary in appropriate situations, and each use is reviewed by a competent authority.
There is a risk some young bobbies might want to pull them out at the drop of a hat in situations where they could have verbally negotiated a non-violent solution, and I think they are potentially fatal in some rare situations.
But they're a helluva lot less "potentially fatal" than firearms and that would be the next step if they weren't able to use tasers I reckon. |

| Cars have killed more people than tazers yet the coppers and public don't think twice about being put in the back of a police car. |

| I think the danger is that there is a perception that tazers are safe. The effect of a tazer is potentially unpredictable, meaning that they can kill and seriously injure people. There aren't really any precautions police can take to stop that from happening. Given that the police are saying that they are for stopping people without killing them, this creates a bit of a paradox - and the police won't be the ones who'll suffer. |

| I think New Zealand is too soft when it comes to law enforcement and issuing stun guns is a good step at least. Our law enforcement now is good for the old days when people here were peaceful and quiet. People have changed and become more violent. It will become worse and will never stop. The only way to control it is to enforce something that will teach them a very good lesson. Something that will make them think twice before committing a crime again. The punishments that are given to offenders of minor crimes are very soft and will never teach them anything. So a simple stun gun will help. Good job on issuing them! |

The sooner our police are armed and let do their jobs without political correctness and interference the better.
Get the Judges to go out with the police for a week each and make sure they are put in the thick of it- then see them go back to the bench and hand out wet bus tickets!!!
GET TOUGH ON THE SCUM OF THIS COUNTRY AND LET THE REST OF US LIVE IN PEACE!!!! |

| its a tuff one, we are only a small nation with an equally small percentage of crims, The UK has 50 million people with a greater underworld and higher levels of violence yet their police are unarmed, however they have the old "Bobby" on the beat as a deterent which seems to work somewhat. I agree something has to be done though, I guess history will be our witness if weve done the right thing |
