mailjonah.
"I think the danger is that there is a perception that tazers are safe. The effect of a tazer is potentially unpredictable, meaning that they can kill and seriously injure people. There aren't really any precautions police can take to stop that from happening. Given that the police are saying that they are for stopping people without killing them, this creates a bit of a paradox - and the police won't be the ones who'll suffer."
Now are you saying it's better for the police to get killed than a crim??
Well I guess one option would be to arm all the police with feather dusters,
Now that would REALLY effective against a guy like Wallace who got shot now wouldn't it.
I guess Wallace would have had more chance of still being around if he had been tasered rather than shot?
I guess if you don't mess with the law you won't get Tasered simple?

It's about time the police had a bit of armament against the scum. Gla the level headed MPs didn't listen to the Green Party. Let them get back to their electric and chemical toilets and stop trying to be PC.

Agreed, PC is stuffing this country up. Get us out of the UN, The UN shouldn't be dictating how we run our country.
That why is ecessential we don't borrow like what National wants us to do,

Re:Taser Guns - Good or Bad? Reply to this message
Nope, disagree with Tasers. Think about the costs.
Cost of the Tasers plus training.
Complaint laid, tax payer foots the bill for the court case.
Suspect charged in court, cost to the tax payer.
Convicted and imprisoned, cost to tax payer (approx. $40,000 per annum to keep someone in prison).
Now consider the annual cost for prison and add the other expenses, then the cost of a bullet at around 20 cents is damn cheap.

The Taser is all good , but it is the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff.
Crims have to realize the consequence of their actions and tough punishment is what is required.
We should introduce the rotan cane as in asia ,THEN cops need for Weapons would diminish.

Re:Taser Guns - Good or Bad? Reply to this message
it seems that only specially trained police will be allowed to use them and they will be carried in locked boxes in nominated police cars.
Another example of the touchy-feely, namby-pamby, PC, cover-our -a.r.s.e, somebody-might-sue approach. FFS!

Yeh, but the UK at least have Armed Response Units to call on when required, and they drive around prepared to rspond quicky to any armed threat. The Tazer Police here would use is the UK model, not the US model which Locke and his PC mates continually bring out the stats on.
I'm waiting for the day when he or is mates really get a pasting from some low-life so they know what it's like to be a victim.

Best thing since sliced bread, If you don`t want your ass zapped, stay out of trouble, and don`t break the law.

They should be introduced and used in Parliament too and anyone who tells lies gets zapped.......wow.....Hele n and Winston would get a real red ass.

v123narroc labour is the reason why PC is running rampart, cant smack your kids, cant used this lightblub, cant have a pie at school once a week or every day if you want. Even the head of the police doesn't have his balls anymore he has to ask what the MPs want the people that have no idea how society in this country works, he should be doing the best for his staff not mincing around, get some balls arm your staff so they can protect themselves, they shouldn't need tazers people should chill the fark out instead of being heros but thats not the way of the world.

The god bother brigade say those with pacemakers and those who are mentally ill will be at risk.
I say I would prefer if I was in such a position to be asked to quieten down or be shot or tazered i would take the tazer. I would still at least be alive to be able to explain my actions. Yes bring in the tazer for frontline police use. After all each use has to be recorded and who loves paperwork.

Sorry but you are not entirely correct, true, most British Police are unarmed but, the British Police Force have dedicated armed police who do day to day frontline duties but are the first to respond when there is an armed offender or similar to deal because they are armed. I would ask the politicians this, would they prefer Glocks or Tasers.

Give the cops the tools to do the job. The bottom feeders have to be subdued and captured before they can be given the ratan or other punishment. Anyway - the time is coming in this country when even law abiding people will need a weapon of some sort for self preservation.

Maybe they should have the rule that if you use a tazer and its deamed that you over used it that you should get it used on you for the same duration.

We had a disturbance in our street the other night with a violent bloke going off his rocker - screams, swearing, the works. In situations like that when there's a chance that some drug/alcohol crazed maniac is going to start bashing your house (and family) next, you want the cops to have all the weapons they can get to keep you (and them) safe. Overseas, when they hear that the cops in NZ don't have weapons, some people are horrified and wonder how on earth they do their job.
