With all the talk of police being over physical with offenders (or suspects) at least with the taser they don't get a chance to lay a hand on person until they are under submission.

| haha cripplem... you make me laugh ... just stick to common sense, if some guy came crashing into your home drunk and knocked everything every where endangering the safety of your little kids (if you had some ) you would restrain his movement ..no? of course you would , tazers are good for this . as you know when you fire one that your "intent " is not to murder or permanently maim but to restrain and protect .. there is no ethical dilemma |

| thanks for clearing them up, although if someone broke into my house and was threatening the ones I love maiming would be on the menu and if I had a tazer I would hope the charger was near by :) |

Cripple you aint been there done that, when faced with some one whos completely beyond reasoning, either because hes mad, bad, sad or off his tree via substance abuse. What do you do then??
I know give him a hug , no wait lets plant a tree, um no wait give him some lentil soup, um Locke goes on there not ok to use tasers but whats the alternative??? |

| Scuminals are already walking around with 9mm pistols so I think the Taser is not going to be good for only the not so bad citizen of New Zealand |

| boggsy1210 Ive worked In a bar had have dealt with people off there rocker, Ive had swords pulled on me, guy tried to run me over one night cause I wouldn't let him in cause he was to drunk, Ive broken arms restraining people that are so high pain does nothing to them, yet this is nothing compared with what the coppers have to put up with, I watched 9 of them try and cuff one guy in the alley next to the club I used to work at watched the copper pepper spray his mate by accident the guy was just unstoppable. Ive grown up with gang members and seen that side and have had some of the best nights of my life in their company, some people will not respond to anything other than brute force. |

| That wasn't just one night lol it was over a few years, and there are alot of people out there that just don't know when to leave well alone. The doormen in oz have to wear stab proof vests and no doubt it will get like that in NZ too, Dont do it now just work when bands are on much nicer :) |

A few doormen could do with a staking themselves, It like policing is a mugs game, sure you feel good when everyones had a good night and their has been no dramas, but have to put up with endless amounts of BS from people that just cant take no for an answer and expect you to believe every word they say.
I seen a guy one night just ribbing this cop trying to be a hero just wouldn't give up, cop said to us I'm not looking so we run the guy into the wall cop turned around told us thats enough and walked off and we went back inside and left the guy crying about he cant do that hes the police rah rah rah. |

Cops spend all night on the streets clearing up riff raff, then finish their shifts and have to deal with the a-holes who have been brought to the station.
I've been in that waiting room at the cop shop and on a fri/sat nite, its full of drunks.
I'm thinking electically charged cell floors to compliment the tasers? |

The UN dictates to countries, Why do you think a lot of countries are going the PC way, UK,US,Aust,Sweden,Netherl ands,Germany, you name them and it all going the same was. It's not just labour here in NZ it comes from further afeild. The comon demoniator is the UN.
National won't do any better,Why do you think they suddenely back down on the smacking bill. Pressure from the UN of course. Tor the line John or else. |

| Cops need tasers. I reckon, on balance, they'll save lives - those of assault victims and those of out of control p addicts etc. Can't help wondering how many cops will wind up accidentally tasering themselves though. They don't seem to get much in the way of proper weapons training. |
