| There's always good and bad in every country in the world. So you just learn to accept the good and work to make changes to the bad part of the country. That's what democracy is all about... you can take affirmative action by making changes...being an election year... use your vote wisely! |

As Americans who have been spending a couple weeks to two months in New Zealand almost every year since 1987, my wife and I view some of the criticisms of New Zealand on this website as valid while others are (at best) uninformed or (at worst) biased. We find New Zealand to be a country of good people who enjoy life, and the website does not convey any sense of the character of New Zealanders, instead describing them as a bunch of beer-drinking rugby fans.
The typical Kiwi has a higher sense of personal accountability than the average American. Not much flusters them. Most do not expect the government to care for them. They are enthusiastic and love to compete (e.g., golf can be intensely competitive - much less rugby and cricket), but they are also fundamentally fair people who appreciate another's effort and skills.
We have been welcomed and treated warmly by Pakeha (European descent) and Maori alike, perhaps because we treat people with basic respect and courtesy. We act like we appreciate being guests in their country and they treat as valued visitors. We don't criticize some aspects of life there that are not quite what you might find in the States or Western Europe.
The country offers great fishing, golf, hiking, sailing, and other outdoor sports in an unpretentious atmosphere. The historic egalitarian culture of the country is being challenged by growing affluence, but most Kiwis still don't judge others based on their job or wealth.
The phrasing and grammar on the website suggests to me that the person doing the writing for the website is: a) not terribly well uneducated; b) racially biased if not truly bigotted; and c) has only a superficial grasp of New Zealand and New Zealanders. Much of the rhetoric reminds me of the skinhead white-power websites in the States.
We aren't going to move to New Zealand, but we wouldn't keep going back if it was as bad as it is portrayed on this website. Next year, it will be 9 weeks. |

| That site is very much on the money, thats is why I left New Zealand over 10 years ago now and wont be returning. New Zealand has had a brain drain since the 70's and through government incompetence they have failed to stem the flow that was a tricle into the flood it has become. The government is now trying to sell immigration to naive immigrants who feel ripped off because the governments spin dosnt match the reality hence sites like http://www.expatexposed.com/ and the "STATE" is at war with this site trying to intercept its traffic with a named variant http://www.expatsexposed.com/ so the NZ STATE is clearly threatened by sites like this. The brain drain is mainly young white educated males, thats why women in New Zealand have been able to get to high positions because of the lack of competition and many women live on the DPB with their children from different fathers because the quality males have left and what remains is the dross. |

| nicolte, Is your self-esteem that fragile you feel the need to resort to personal abuse each time you feel someones opinion threatens you. No wonder violence and assaults are so prevalent in New Zealand today. |

JSR,
Is running NZ down your only mission in life? - eg is there anything else in life you are good at, besides critising us?
That seems to be the only pleasure you get in your narrow little life in that great country where you have chosen to live.
I say, as I've said before, enjoy yourself, go and sort out your pollution, stop the shootings in high schools, sue someone, or help break up your urban gangs, maybe join KKK or whatever and forget about us, - we'll manage! you just concentrate on paying your taxes which will no doubt be used to "change and control the world", - we'll be fine without you - you're nothing but a "misery guts"! |

| Chandler, I have no doubt that many South Africans would love to migrate to anywhere when in South Africa there are murderous riots, where people are getting hacked to death with machetes, car jacking every day and general insecurity. Hell might even consider Beirut. |

JSR,
Just found out that you now live in Britain, - you've got enough material there to keep you critising for the rest of your life my friend, so get busy on that catastrophe of a country and leave us alone.
(and he has the gall to run down NZ folks!!). |

Nicola has either been away a long time or is very selective in her recollection of how NZ used to be but is certainly no longer.
What used to be comfy middle class in NZ(Nth Island in particular) is now ever sprawling, high density ghettos, full of welfare dependent refugees, islanders, maori, white trash e.t.c. These areas are crime havens that no normal person could feel safe in. Mt Roskil used to be such a place, now its crawling with non english speaking somalians and crime stats are through the roof!Same with West Auckland which used to be all orchards and wineries, Nth Shore was once so beautiful but now its just a few waterside streets that are still nice, the rest is a shadow of its former laid back, cruisyness.
Yesterday 2.5 thousand people marched in Auckland to protest the constant assaults, muggings and murders. the drug P has been uncontrollable for years and as the other poster says hundreds of thousands of switched on whites(and maori)have long since bailed.
I grew up there when it was the best country in the world so can say how much of a non flushable toilet it has been allowed to become under successive gang friendly, minority friendly weak Goverments who have turned their back on the long suffering majority.
I bet nicole is under 25 and clearly hasnt a clue what she is raving about.Good chance also that on return to NZ she aint going anywhere near the ghettoes that make up most of NZ life these days(pampered princess syndrome). |

| Really Julie, and how long will it be before you both have NZ residency and make the move to OZ as do most others in your position.Having lived in England i can understand you seeing NZ as a paradise, as do many others from your neck of the woods, but Australia remains the dream for most which is why it is far more difficult to come here direct. |

M and MUCK,
I don't mind criticism at all and I agree that everyone is entitled, but this guy (JSR) lives in another country (apparently Britain), jeers at and criticises NZ constantly in different threads, even starting threads to specifically criticise NZ.
To crown all that, he is now living in a country where the crime rate is horrific!
Has he got nothing else to do with his life?
This post also is an exercise in free speech by the way! |

| I have had many hoildays in OZ which were great but i would not want to live there, its just not for us. My husband has a good job over here and we are happy with our lot.I like the fact you dont have any nasties over here.I dont look at NZ through rose tinted specs, There is problems over here but there is in all countries, I love bits about the UK and still miss certain things but we made our choice to live here.I can understand people looking for a better lifestyle and wanting to try life over the ditch and good luck to them. But we have found our paradise. |

Chandler I agree with you there are heaps of people that want to move here, of course they do, in NZ you dont have to work if you dont want to, the Govt will give you a benefit. You can also make a good career out of being a baby factory, the Govt will even buy your groceries.
Whilst there are genuine people out there that cant work or are solo mothers through no fault of their own. As for the rest its called a free ride. |

| no it is not. id much rather pay my taxes and have them go to maori families than take all their rights and exclude them alltogether as australia seems to do with their abbos. im a kiwi living in austria at the moment and pay more tax than back home but if i had to call the police id still have to pay 35 euro just for them to come with their sirens on, which i alreay pay for in tax. as for the roads, sure you get where your going alot quicker on the autobahn, but the price you pay is huge moterway networks tearing up the wonderful countryside they have. i much prefer the scenic route. employment? we have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world. no we are not perfect yes we have crime and gangs and drugs. name one country without these issues... yes we are into our rugby and dam proud of it to have one of the top teams in the world. and yes we do like beer but mix the two together do we get huge riots..ummm no. yip we have a "sheel b right" attitude and thats part of what makes us kiwis. doesnt mean we cant design amazing boats for the americas cup, or have world firsts like mt everest though. this website highlights and then puts !!!!! on some of the negitive things about nz. the dude who made the website has obviously got problems and just found out about wikipedea where he/she/it has found some statistics and opinions. well done matey. im glad you hate nz so much so i never meet you there :p |
