| I should put my two cents in, NZ isn't all it's cracked up to be these days, but I blame urbanization, not colonisation. I feel relaxed living in the countryside (or to be precise, lifestyle blocks). So much space. I've just realised something, space is the issue. When you have thousands of ethnicites tightly squeezed in one place, you're bound to have quite a few issues. |

Cracks me up because even though I do feel slighted by the opinions on the website, I do have to agree with a lot of the points. Let me elaborate. I am a Kiwi through and through. I grew up in a single parent family struggling day to day. I completed high school, attended university (taking a hefty student loan to cover the costs) then found work in the Defence Force. Currently I work in the Middle East and have just recently relocated my wife and family back to New Zealand from Australia. So I think I am able to offer a valid opinion (remember team it's MY opinion)
New Zealand has one of the most relaxed laid back lifestyles you could ever experience. However this is also part of NZ's downfall. The work ethic of the average NZ'er is half of most Western European countries (apart from the U.K's). The tax system is an absolute joke. The way it is set basically makes you want to stay within a certain wage range instead of striving to do well. The country is a complete welfare state. There is no incentive for people to get out and work hard because the governement will bail them out. Another issue with the government seems to be the rampant political correctness. Christ when are they going to start calling a spade a spade and begin slamming all these fringe groups who constantly hold out their hand for payouts. And yes in most cities I would not feel safe letting my wife and kids shop by themselves.
I feel New Zealand is 20 years behind most other Western Countries (christ the difference between New Zealand and Australia is huge). And it seems to be only getting worse.
Now you may ask if it's so bad why have I moved back. Well my parents and close family are still there. And with me working overseas I would love my wife and kids to have a load of support. I honestly wish though I could stay in Australia.

Hi.
I find NZ is be very restrictive and isolated tothe rest of then world which has its pluses and minuses. I now currently live in the UK and have been here since 06. I couldnt not go back mto NZ because of the lack of variety (shopping and activities) and the expnese of clothes, food, housing, cars, ect would drive me insane. NZ is is a very beautiful and uncomplicated place to live but thats about it. Its a very BORING country & EXpensive |

I read every page on the website, sure he has it wrong on some of the things he says, however i totally agree about the political side of things he mentioned, we are one of the highest taxed countries in the OECD, oh and we also work some of the longest hours for the lowest pay, We do have a major gang problem here, anyone read the news paper lately, violent crime/drugs etc etc are all on the rise!
I think some of us kiwis have our head in the ground and are oblivious to some of the major problems effecting this country, This person has obviously been in NZ and not found it to his liking, he has said some things which are not true, but he has also said alot of stuff i have been saying myself for quite a while. I am giving NZ one more year, if nothing improves i too am moving overseas for a better life style. |

| No they didnt take my wheels because I had a German motor car and they have left threaded nuts and those "bright sparks" in Gisbourne didnt think of turning the wheel brace the other way. While I was in Gisbourne I kept all my cash in some books because I knew books are like cryptonite to those country folks in Gisbourne, good luck to you living in NZ because you will need it heehee. |

| Kiwi's can take any of it from our own here but when some loser goes overseas and then comes on at us from somewhere that's no better then we do get pissed off. Would be different if elsewhere was better but today it isn't; we all have our very own problems and those that have left should concentrate on what's happening outside their back doors and not ours. When it's better where you all are then come back but until then stop being so hypocritical and talking garbage. |

| Well extra the sad fact is that here in OZ it certainly is way, way better. Nightly news has not been hijacked by maori affairs, or dominated by constant horrific P related violence. Sun is always shining, wages way higher and people way happier. Stating these facts should not be seen as an attack, simply a more pleasant perspective, remarkably STILL available to any kiwi smart enough to realise. |

| beaumulligan, I know what you are saying man but the quota filling is just lowering the standards for everyone because they keep lowering the bar for these special groups. I got jerked off because I thought to myself that you only get one life and I wasnt going to have it disposed of by a bunch of do gooders. I cant even count how many of my family are in other countries. Going back to 2001-02 Helen's department sent me a form through an immigration office with a bunch a questions basically designed to find out why I left NZ, was I going to return. I didnt fill it in or send it back because I thought Helen if you dont know by now you will never know love. Jez its been going on since the 70's and they dont understand it. I have been back 3 times since the early 90's and everytime I looked at the news all it was about was the treaty and claims; its been like "Ground Hog Day" over there for the last 20 to 40 years. Well I hope they work it out and find some peace but hell I wasnt waiting round to find out and I have no regrets. |

It is not the paradise you make it out to be. Open your eyes take a look around at your own backyard before critisizing ours. |

jerry; you're not telling them diddly, you're into a hate session. When I went on my o/s I went to find out for myself; its part of ones adventure through life. You rant on as if every square inch of NZ is bad but it isn't, it's only a few isolated areas like where you are. What's so different from South Auckland and Brixton; what's so different about the murders here and those two French students that have been literally butchered. As I said, we each have our own problems and it wouldn't take much to single out any single country and list the same ones; the same reasons not to go to another country. Your trying to take the moral high ground in a country that is as diverse, as multi cultural and as violent as ours.
As a footnote I'd add that if I was going to migrate to another country,and spend my life savings, I would sure as he.l make sure I knew what I was getting into before I made the commitment. Who in their right mind wouldn't; maybe you did and now you blame NZ. |
