Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
Yep, I also just got done studying Human Resources and Industrial Relations at university. As part of that we had to study the ECA and what went on when National got in. Already looks like it's going to be a repeat of that (a repeat which I don't want to experience). 90-day probation period, GP's not having a cap on what they charge ... who is going to benefit from National getting in? People who are already well off but still aren't happy. Nobody else. I watched videos of normal, middle class families who ended up lining up at food banks the last time National were in. Labour annoys me sometimes but they are a heck of a lot better than National is going to be for the country ... and people's vote should be for what is good for the COUNTRY, not the individual. I read The Dominion a while ago when the budget was being announced, there was a family of 4 (maybe 5?) who had no mortgage and brought in $120,000 per year whining that they were finding times difficult and they needed tax cuts. THESE are the people that National will be making happy.

I hope you're not trying to say that those families with four generations of dole bludgers are hard done by? They need to get off their a$$es and get a job, They all know how to fill in a dole form, how many have filled in a job application? not one I would think.

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
noblok; I don't think they are pro-Labour at university ;) They were just showing it how it was.

There should be systems in place where people can't bludge off the dole. I do think that there is a place for it though. If I lost my job tomorrow at least there would be the option for me to sign up on the unemployment benefit so my bills can be paid while I look for a job.

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
If you think a 90 day probation period is bad, try being an employer, they have no rights. Think about it. If someone applies for a job, they can tell the employer a pack of sh8t and there's nothing the employer can do about it. But if the employer doesn't tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, all hell breaks loose. Let's not forget whose gonads are on the line if the employer makes a mistake and employs some looser that has lied to him.

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
If somebody lies about their CV etc it is grounds for instant dismissal.

There is already a provision for a probation period under the current employment law.

What happens to people that are employed on fixed-term contracts such as fruit pickers?

Also if I take on a job I can be sexually harassed by my employer on day 89 and then be fired when I turn down his advances and I can't take him to employment court for unfair dismissal.

And you support this???

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
Harry.Jess I agree with your comment that winz needs to be a support short term to get people back on their feet.

I'm female middle aged and never had children, worked hard in supervisory and management roles and now I have a mortgage free home. Three years ago I became ill and continued to work for the following 12 months. Since then I have been on invalids and had 12 surgeries. (stomach related). I also have bi-polar with psychosis.(which I can't take meds for due to my stomach surgeries) so I've been put on invalids for both the physical and mental health. During my well times I still work and long term I hope to become well enough to return to full time employment.

THis is what the benefit is for. To help genuine people like myself during a difficult period. I have even tried to get back to work and had my medical team stop me. I don't consider myself to be a blugger. Yet many would chuck the label at me and that really hurts.

Come talk to me again when you've been in the big wide world a few years harry.jess - until then I don't have the energy to re-educate you...the real world will do that in due course...looking like you'll get to experience a nat govt whether you want it or not...chin up.

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
tokoroajaq; exactly, that's what I don't like to throw everybody who is on the benefit into one group. My partner's son was 4 months old when his mother died suddenly - my partner had to spend a couple of months on the DPB as he dealt with the grief and had to leave his job to look after baby (his mother had been stay-at-home previously) who was pining for his mum.

WINZ serves its purpose. There's just a few who ruin it. Media always manages to spin it out of control tho ... all you people who believe everything they say are absolute idiots

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
I've been on the dole in four different countries!
New Zealand--easy,but the payments are low enough to send you out looking for work, six weeks
Australia-easy,good benefit but nothing like a decent wage, four weeks
England--Fantastic,better than traveling to and from work every day, gave me heaps of spare time to be with my kids, eight months
Switzerland-Fantastic,80 percent of my last wage payable from Day one but..."here are three jobs.you can go and try each one,but if you do not take one of them, you will have to support yourself because our payments will cease in ten days"-three days later I took one of the jobs on offer
...now whos got it right?

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
lol!! Big wide world? Care to tell me exactly how my opinions are going to change?? Even if I end up on a fantastic wage with no children and National will benefit me more than Labour I will still vote RED as THAT is what is best for my country. We have a responsibility to look after the poor and those in need. I am not happy with everything that Labour has to offer and National would probably suit me better personally however I cast my vote as what is best for everyone, NOT just myself (or the rich).

With all due respect to you noblock, I have met 21 year olds with more sense then an entire class room of life experienced people. Age isn't always the key to wisdom. I'm not supporting labour or national. I think the country is screwed either way.
