MY have i hit a nerve, be careful madnzcow, things have a way of hitting back. When i had to ask for money to pay my power bill i paid $20 a week out of my benefit to pay it back. This money is taken out by WINZ before i see it.
The internet is paid by Study Link.

lilchick you don't have to justify yourself to people that don't know S.H.I.T about your circumstances.

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
Yep, lilchick that's pretty simple...I'm still not feeling the sympathy tho. Are you unemployable? I mean is it that you've ripped off your last employer and now no-one will give you a go, or is it that you couldn't bring yourself to pick apples, asparagus or pack boxes while you wait for that dream job to come along....there's work there for those who WANT it... heck if things are that hard you could even knock on a few door and offer to do someone's housework...I've been desperate before believe me, but there's always something YOU can do to make a difference...IF YOU WANT TOO! Try looking up www.seek.co.nz while your online...

I think if you're after the sympathy vote you came to the wrong thread...and no you don't have to justisfy yourself to anyone, but if you put yourself out there trying to pull the heartstrings on a thread that was clearly pretty anti bludgers then you're bound to get a reaction...simple really.

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
Yes you do have to justify yourself when you are living off the earnings of others, I know for sure that if I am carrying extra wieght I wanna know that the reasons are valid. When you are taking the food from my childs mouth to stick in yours you better have a damn good reason.

Wish I could go an buy a 50 inch plasma and pay it back at $5 a week...oh that's right people like me can use finance co's and banks (so long as we pay interest). do you pay interest? Didn't think so....

actually, people like me save up for such items and pay cash...

i agree with you noblo some of these bludgers just take things for granted if you look at the winz site apparently they will pay for a tv because its essential... right....there are so many things just handed out to them all its ridiculous next thing they will be given vouchers for petrol.. prehaps instead of giving them money they should hand out foodstamps and the like

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
I've just worked out that the tax I pay in one week covers lilchicks handout, does that make me lilchicks employer? Maybe lilchick could come do some chores for me for 40 hours a week, I reckon I could keep them busy...but better still if lilchick gets "taxed" does that mean I am being "taxed" twice....maybe I can apply for a tax refund!

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
Pagan_man 1 you make a good point. My thoughts are this. We pay taxes. We employ ALL on a benefit. WE the employer SHOULD be able to call on ALL beneficiaries to WORK. Chores could be to cut the grass for some less fortunate. That less fortunate can also do something worthwhile, such as stuff envelopes/fold fliers.ALL of our employees should be available for the minimum time, such as Solo Mums with school kids 9-3 DOLE 7-4 sickness beneficiaries(those who are not Druggies on a benefit)7-4. I know when i was temporarily out of a job I at least had apurpose to get out of bed of a morning to go and ask/do odd jobs for those less fortunate. IF the conditions above CANNOT be met no benefit or rebate paid to those of us who have/can get off our rear ends and do something about the continued abuse of the system.I am a baby boomer and have supported the Social security system up to now for over 40 years. There are those who deserve and those who should be ashamed.

Apply at your local WINZ office. They will have plenty on the books. If you are too busy WORKING to go look in the phonebook for a number.

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
my thoughts are who is there if we need help after there are alot of industries where work is affected by weather my partner is in one of these bad weather = no work which = less pay..however us as working families have noone to call upon if we cannot addord rent mortgages power ph and anything else we cannot pay yet here is a person who can laze around 7days a week and have it all handed to them.. i feel for those who do actually need the winz payments but come on i bet at least 80% are undeserving.. in the last 18mnths i fostered 2 teenage children when there dad was unabl,e to care for them due to a mental illness and never recieved anything from anybody because it was not a formal arrangement.. for those who dont work there are plenty of places who take on volunteers for stuff at least do something to earn what everyone else is paying for so you can have a stress free exsistence

Sounds like you are a grafter. Good on you I support 100% your thoughts. Benefits for those who deserve. As it appears there are those who get a benefit when not deserved and those who deserve miss out.A robust system for my $ is required.

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
Whilst the point is valid and I know that it can be quite hard to survive on a benefit (I brought up a family of three on $236 per week in the late 90's) the benefit is funded by a tax on those who pay it. Therefore the money is tax money paid by others in the first place and any tax on this is just symbolic.

Re:tax payers fund benefits Reply to this message
Good idea obrienke, I have pigs and their waste disposal needs to be emptied, to do this I need to use a shovel. Perhaps one of the people you mention could do that job.
We approached WINZ as we had a vacancy here, WINZ sent us three people to interview. One didnt turn up, One said that they didnt do mornings and the other didnt have a drivers licence.
WINZ pays for more than TVs, food, etc
I saw one female getting a vaccum cleaner being paid for and my Aunt who runs a Baby shop told me that several girls come in each week and get prams, clothing, cots even matress paid for.
