| What a terribly offensive thing to say. How did this thread manage to turn into "parent bashing". Not everyone with kids, or more than 1 or 2, is a burden on society. Not everyone has their lives subsidised by the Government. Not everyone who qualifies for - or needs - assistance actually gets it. People choose to have families in the same way others choose not to. |

It makes me wonder why some of those on a benefit that have posted to this thread have flared up about beneficiary bashing. Might it be that a raw nerve has been struck, could it be that the truth hurts? Are some of you that are on a benefit and dont need to be are feeling a little guilty bludging off the taxpayer?
Sure there are people out there that genuinly have it hard and do need the benefit and also people who are genuinly sick or disabled, it is not those people I am on about, its the ones that are having a FREE RIDE I am on about |

Normaz, people who genuinely need to be on a benefit feel ashamed of being on one, it is demeaning. Bludgers don't give a flying, they see it as their entitlement, and honestly believe the money comes from 'the government'. As they are unlikely to have close contact with working ,tax-paying people who actually do fund their benefits, they might die (young) without knowing the difference.
And for those who have previously s l a g ged off the Scots ,this is from mah Dad "hard work is its own reward" . |

Yes having children is a life style choice, but it is not
MINE. Why do parents feel that it is everyone elses responsability to subsidize them .
Even bloody MPs with kids recieve benifits
I do sympathize with genuine benificiarys be they unemployed, solo parents, sickness or invalids, They have a
pretty tough time, but I hate paying for the MOST COSTLY life syle choice (breeding) made by someone else |

| lets get away from benefit bashers and look at the big picture, $785mill is given as 0.5% of govt spending from tax take. do the maths x20 then devide by approx 3mill tax payers and see how much tax indirect tax we are paying and only then can you understand why we struggle to live pay the mortgage etc we are overtaxed and there are way too many govt hangeroners |

| This election is a classic example of parental benefit bludging, we are being offered even more money to breed including tax cuts the country cant afford and will give almost nothing to non parent workers. Our country lacks proper infrastructure ,for example cheap public transport, which would save everyone money and the country would be so much better off, but instead of building this with the huge budget surpluses we had the political parties and news media focused on the easy votes and poor mums and dads stories. So yes you bludging parental benefitiarys will get your smug little hands on more of our money and we will all wait even longer change |

| well rufjack it would solve a few problems...you currently have to jump through more hoops to own a dog than you do to have kids...and which are more precious? (sorry to all you dog owners)...what's so harsh about expecting people who make the descision to have a family think about how they are going to support that family? Baring children is a true priviledge...one of the biggest bestowed on the human race...it's a shame so many take it for granted. |

No I'm not a n.azi. You want to think carfully before you throw terms like that around,I have simply asked what gives someone else the right to make the decision to have a big family knowing full well they will be relying me to pay for it
The infant mortality rate is at all time lows,so the main reason for large numbers of children in a family no longer exists.I repeat,it is a life style choice that I should NOT have to pay for!!
If your large family is a result of your religious beliefs(once again, YOUR CHOICE not mine!)then perhaps your church could subsidize you |

| This thread sure has shown the anger within NZ. Let me through another perspective to you all... I personally am on an invalids benefit and have been for coming up two years. I have no children but I have my own home. My family are extremely weathly yet when I become ill they don't help me??? Wouldn't give me water if my A.R.S.E was on fire. And they too moan and groan about benefits. My question is should families take more care of each other and help out like the good old days instead of feeding their own pockets and leaving people to the government... da da da My brother for example could employ me, knowing my health circumstances, for fifteen hours a week to help bridge me back into work, but he won't yet he growls about us benefit people being lazy??? Just another view point. |

it doesnt stop at tax either to subsidis.
add on top of that school fees. i go to work, so does the wife we pay tax so the beneficaries kids can go to school. hey thats life i guess.
but then i am also asked to pay school fees. $200 a kid for primary school kids where i am living. Oh but hang on in the lower socio economic areas there are no school fees so again indirectly i subsidise someone elses kids for a second time.
It is a voluntary hidden tax, a second grab caused when govt funds school not quite enough and indirectly fleeces the middle class again.
so yip i protest and dont pay. |

The reason for my previous post was to explain the frustrations for those of us on benefits wanting to return to work. If we have health issues (especially mental health) employers will generally give the job to another applicant. Granted this isn't always the case and their are always those that enjoy a free ride. But many of us, especially if we are older, find it extremely difficult to find employment and even more so in small towns.
Some would argue that we should move but the cost of selling a home, and then renting would be even greater on the tax payers then leaving home owners in their small towns etc...
Its all a nasty business and sadly the bad ones leave the genuine with the tar marks. As for "pagan" and her remark that 80% are ripping off the system. Whatever!!! Brain dead remarks like that don't help and are best left unsaid. |

| just to comment on sylk and the breeding issue.. i have a large family i raise 5 children along with my husband.. until a couple of yrs ago i always worked... now find out f necessity i need to be home with my youngest who has mental health problems so only attends school part time...i dont rely on govt hand outs to help support my kids never have and probably never will so its not right to say that you help pay for all us so called breeders....having a large family does not necessarily mean we get a hand out we do however pay extremely high tax which goes to offset benefits amongst other things and we too like the previous person pay really high school fees whilst other parents at my kids school get let off due to hardship so it is left up to us the working class to offset these costs |

| Mr Room? I gather you hail from over the ditch. I have learned over the past two years that most of the people who actually work and pay taxes in OZ are ex New Zealanders anyway so why the dig. Maybe if they all came home to NZ it would be your country that becomes the beneficary capital of the world??? My household has worked and paid taxes in this country for over 40 years without any handouts from any govt and we are doing fine, mind you my other half has been working in Oz for the past 23 months. Yes we do know what it's like to work on both sides of the ditch. Cheers |

| Thanks Powley. I appreciate that. Its good to know some of you understand. I spend my share of time in psych wards and its dreadful what some have to contend with. And for me it hits a real raw nerve when people lump WINZ people together and say 80% are bludgers. What I would give to have my independance back again. |

You sir are one of the many bludgers in our society that are taking money that i work hard for and getting it for sitting on your ass doing nothing. That makes me sick. I have no doubt you will have a hundred excuses why you havent got a job and not one of those excuses will cut it with me or any other hard working Kiwi who pays for you to bludge.
