to be fair - this affects f all people, and if they do get out when they are 60ish, how much danger are then then anyways? Cheaper to get em back out and on the doll than in prison.

So the policy seems like a good idea down on paper...

i remember voting many years ago (was it 6 or 9?) to have harsher penalties for more violent crimes, it hasnt happened it, so why should I believe that, just becuase John Key says it will happen, it will actually happen? I dont believe it for a second.
Hey if National get in, and it does happen, I would definatley have to rethink my opinion of him |

| Sensible sentencing trust wholeheartedly support National and repeat offenders will do the time, that fits the crime and so they damn well should................... good on them, well overdue! Non Parole conditions etc... |

| Hello sportflash. Dont adopt the wait & see approach. Vote for John Key so he can prove to you he is a man of his word. If he doesnt keep his word throw him out next time but he needs more than than 50% of votes this time so his policies dont get watered down by a coilition partner. If National cant govern alone all of what he says will be diluted to please some minor party. |

| I agree with you, I have had 2 cousins murdered one male aged 16 and the other female aged 23,the persons who did it got life and served 10 years in both cases,their defence one had a disabled child and it was pressure,BULLS..T not a good excuse,the other one his grandmother was dying of cancer again BULLS..T,they get to go on with their lives and the victims are left to pick up the pieces and try and make some sense of it all,I have seen it destroy families and the hurt never goes away it may lesson over time but it is a constant reminder.Life should mean life no exceptions. |

It is still too soft.
One question why does the murder have to be a second offence. However people like Liam Reid(if found guilty) should be executed.
Don't waste my tax dollar on keeping him alive. |

We had a referendum where the public of NZ said we want harsher penalties...whay happened? It was non binding and the Government (Labour) said...you peasants don't have the ability to think for yourselves - WE KNOW BEST!
Time to vote people - make it COUNT!
Vote for a Party that will listen to you and put in place what we mere peasants actually want! |

Well, this message could get some liberal human rights people going: Life should mean life, but it should start earlier with the youth when they first get in trouble.
Bring back some hard labour. Get the youth into proper centres that has a mix of compulsery school work with some hard labour. Then they diffenitly would learn. The higher marks they got in school work the less hard labour they would do. Some would learn really fast. They would then come out with an education and realise crime does not pay.
It could also work on some of the adults too. Nowdays there is too much focus on RIGHTS and not enough focus or even in some cases NOTHING ON RESPONSIBILITY. I do believe in having rights, but they should come with learning about responsibility first.
They start teaching kids about rights from day one - you have this right and that right but no one in this overly PC time says you have this right BUT YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO BE RESPONSIBLE FIRST. How do you train a child to be good? Do you just go out and give them lots of rewards for doing nothing? NO. You teach them to be good and when they are, you give a reward. That is teaching responsibility and then rewarding with a right. |

angel - Labour have already pulled the rug, and they have had the power to enforce a policy such as this, but have done nothing, nothing,nothing..
I used to read the courier mail (brisbane) online a while ago, and the was an opinion poll asking if Aussies felt the kiwi migration was a good thing.I was really surprised that the general consensus was positive, however i was also surprised that a number of people posted, "Only if they don't bring their crime wave over here".. You see under our current system, things are turning to c-rap fast, and even the aussies notice. |

Dont blame a government for problems that start in the home. Dont bring the smacking thing into it, because crime has been around longer than that bill.
