funny how people say it is rammed down their throats but really they don't know anything about it ... they still think it's about selling off land for a bottle of alcohol and a few rifles!

guess it's not rammed down anyone's throat at all.

3 pages of nothing of substance. no debate worth a dime save for the people who have read the document, and the person who cut and paste one of the articles. 3 pages of total mindnumbing waste. The constant feeding of myths read on the back of a weetbix box.
Smatterings of urban legend do not a good topic make.

"why can't we all be New Zealands" the altermate statement of racism, and sadly a very common one. The thing that makes this statement so pathetic is that the people who say it don't even realise how racist it is... The thing these people need to realise is that this statement doesn't have the "just like me" on the end, but that what people mean... We are all different, we should all be proud of that difference and everybody should celebrate it...

Re:How much do you know about the Treaty ... Reply to this message
yeah hardout abu2

i think you just create more issues when you ignore the fact that people are different. not to mention they are usually trying to say that everyone should act like a typical Pakeha kiwi (ITS TRUE).

You are pretty well schooled there public_emilly, it seems

I hope you know where you come/came from ?

Re:How much do you know about the Treaty ... Reply to this message
Thanks harry.jess

I love our multi ethnically influenced Kiwi culture... I love the fact that a typical kiwi is someone who walks down a beach in a lavalava with Maori designs on it eating chinese or a curry... we have a uniqueness which has grown from many different cultural influences... we need to be proud of that... we also need to acknowledge that all of this cultural interaction "formally" begun on 6 February 1840, when Hone Heke was the first maori to sign the Treaty

bosons

I get exactly what you are saying... if you are poor you should get it... so that social determinant works for you???... there is actually an "ism" in that too... it's called Socialism, where the rich are forced to help the poor, or where wealth is spread regardless of earning capacity... I know a lot of rich people who hate that concept more then sexism or racism...

Targeted funding according to what ever determinant you want be it race, gender or wealth... is still targeted, and just because some targets grate your "values" I can assure you that even the targets you accept will grate someone else's "values"... because at the end of the day it is all the same only some people qualify...

Good on you for applying your values and making a choice... I don't agree with them, but that's your choice not mine.

I have read the Treatty right though on a number of occasions and am still trying to fathom out where it says that Maori are allowed to keep coming back for more hand outs. My eye sight is good too.

ggoldy

You are absolutely right... It doesn't say that Maori ca n keep coming back for more and more handouts anywhere... it actually also doesn't say anywhere that the Crown can steal Maori land... It also doesn't say that the Crown will provide less benefits to Maori... It also doesn't say that the Crown will assume dominant control over all things in this country and ignore traditional Maori culture...

Actually it does say the exact opposite of all those things and said these thing should never happen... except the bit about continual Maori handouts... it never said that could never happen, so aren't we lucky...

Re:How much do you know about the Treaty ... Reply to this message
Its very easy to talk about multi culturalism and how as a country we are so good at it...but are we? We have Pakeha saying Maori get everything for nothing, Maori saying we deserve it for past wrongs, Asain anti crime groups declaring gang warfare on the poly community and a large and growing Africanns communtiy hiding over in the Northshore to stay away from the riff raff......yeah we are really good at getting along...
My point being...it is what it is. You dont have like every one who enjoys god's own ( NZ ) but no matter what your back ground ( whenua or not,...by the way whenua is anyone born here, no matter what race) should know how this country originated. The TOW was a great thing to some and at the same time no good to many as it transpires. The important thing to realise is that it is what it is and we have to live with it as it is.

PS - I am of Pakeha Maori heritage ( if you dont know what that is then look it up. (Pakeha Maori not Pakeha / Maori)

Oh to be able to live with your head in the sand tokoajaq, I admire that... but how do your breath?

shaggers500

I think culture occurs and it isn't manufactured... if we examine it too much we can get lost in the gaps, because many gaps exist, and miss the wonder of the good stuff that has already evolved... Just enjoy what we have and let if evolve, I am constantly surprised at how rich our kiwi culture becomes on a daily basis...

All immigrants should have to learn about the treaty before being allowed into our country.

Kia ora e how, ka mihi ki te mana o to korero.

The sad thing is, my experience is that most new immigrants have a greater knowledge and interest in the treaty then those who are proud of being multi genrational...
