powley9
I assume you are referring to me..if you are becareful
where you throw your STONES....If you are so anti Maori
Why do you not move to a country WHERE there are no Maori
like South Afrika better still China...
If you wanted to know where i am studying why not ask nicely
instead of SARCASM...and not only that do you actually know
what a degree is......:L :L :L :L :L :L
I enjoy your way with words, Why do you not enrol at Waikato Uni. and get a DEGREE in STONE-THROWING it would suit to a"T" then maybe we could meet up for a CHAT...

Powley you crack me and you make these otherwise boring threads something to enjoy. If your mother did drop you on your head (as suggested by an earlier post) then perhaps you could ask her to drop a few others on their heads?

actually Powley could you do me a favour...

I have this vision of a short, fat, balding, virgin, with a face like a dropped mince pie, playing with himself and getting excited every time he says something insulting... it's actually an image I would love for you to get rid of... so if you could do that for me I would appreciate it... thanks...

At the risk of being witch hunted.. what about a new treaty.. one that takes into account the players of today.. the crown is gone, she is England where she belongs and maori are more powerful in voice than we were. it mite at least get rid of the stigma that the treaty has to people without at least a working understanding of it.

rrotflmbao Thing is we already know what everyone meant, it is clearly established, only problem is what are we going to do about it 170 years later and whose problem is it. A treaty is between two sovereign nations, who would the parties be?

Re:How much do you know about the Treaty ... Reply to this message
I have read the posted comments and looks like not many of those ppl who have posted so far know much at all. Sad really. The Treaty that we Kiwi have is unique in the world. And its ratification (or the process so far) is also unique. Our history is therefore unique. I know about the Treaty and I know our history, and our herstory.
This makes me proud to be Kiwi. There are a lot of books to read. 'Go Ask that Mountain' is one. Truly awesome story of Parihaka. Tim Finn wrote the song!
Grow up people. Learn your his/her/story!

Kia Ora,
I gained a diploma in Matauranga Maori, via Te Wananga O Raukawa, before i undertook these studies i knew nothing, i couldnt comprehend my -maoritanga-. Not only did i learn about my Maoritanga, i learnt about my history, my hertiage, my language and my whakapapa and what it means to be -maori-.I have passed this on to my 2 sons, both of whom are proud to be maori.
I think i have intermediate knowledge of the Treaty Of Waitangi and the history and circumstaces behind it. Until i went to te Wananga O Raukawa i knew nothing about it, i had a vague idea it was a piece of paper fill of broken promises.

I ask Why is the Treaty Of Waitangi Aceepted as a legal document betwene the Maori and the Crown and the Declaration of Independence?

Re:How much do you know about the Treaty ... Reply to this message
Hello the_possum yes the Treaty is flawed because it was translated from Te Reo Maori by The Europeans....to words
which suited the European and only the European gained from it......
And NOW... guess WHAT the Maori now understands the Treaty..
and are now arguing with words of the European (not guns which were bought to N.Z by the Europeans) for their lands back.....

Re:How much do you know about the Treaty ... Reply to this message
kiwi gurl

The treaty was originally writen in English by Hobson and Busby and then translated over night by Henry Williams and his son... the translaters were not the best skilled translaters in the country at the time (William Williams was) but all that was available at short notice... Now as an Anglican Minister Williams had a slight bias towards the treaty and wanted it signed as the Catholics had just arrived in the form of Pompalier (Frenchman), so British rule cemented the Anglican claim to NZ... he was very liberal in his translation of the text into Maori and even invented a few Maori words to spruce it up... the end result was very different from the English version... but in the end it was the Maori version which was signed and it is the version recognised in International law...

Flawed yes... but stuffed up by three Pakeha, not Maori...
