I see why they are never taken seriously and are looked upon they way they ..as bullys.
When they don't get their way or feel they are not heard, they use heavy handed tactics , every damn time.
How can activists always lay blame on a society that weren't even around when all these greivences 1st came to light.?
Lets take a look at it from our point of veiw.

Maori have a Wa'ananga specifically for Maori people.
Kohanga reo to teach specifically maori language
The Treaty of Waitangi especially written for the protection of maori.
The dole and housing NZ homes were introduced and especially designed to accomodate maori on low incomes.
85% of those collecting some kind of benefit are maori.
75% of those involved in crime are .yes ..you guessed it, maori and whats the excuse, the system has failed the maori.
Maori students are failing at school because their parents don't support them at home with homework and straight away, the pakeha system are accused of not doing enough.
Even our own ministers don't feel that they need to go through any election process..NO..
they demand their seats as a given right because , they are maori.!!!!!!!!
Who else in here is sick of being called a RACIST pertaining this issue whenever somebody dares to speak out against MAORI.!!!??
I am a maori..I have mana and pride.
I bring my children up to earn and work for what they want in life, not throw a tantrum and threaten bodily harm when it doesn't go their way...or depend on the colour of their skin or race to progress ahead.
If they fail, they failed because they didn't try or didn't want it bad enough..not because the pakeha system let them down..either my fault for not teaching them well or
they let themselves down for not believing in themselves enough.

Kia ora

kia ora stubborn :)

I'm not sure about the stats you mentioned, but I 100% agree with you about todays society paying for yesterdays wrongdoings. It is annoying, and is one of the reasons I am leaving this beautiful country for good by this time next year.

Your children are lucky to have a parent with good life values and I'm sure the mana you have will be something they aspire to and achieve also.

Cheers

Re:Maori activists on the warpath Reply to this message
stubbornforge I have no problem with people who speak out against Maori provided of course they have their story correct or even partially correct.
Activism is also a legal process its what the activists do that matters.
Waananga's are for all people as are the kohanga reo's.
The treaty was to give equal voice and yes protecting what they had. this of course didn't happen.
And my understanding that the real treaty issues are with the Crown. It may well be that young maori are failing at school for many reasons even the ones you mentioned but what is the answer, because without a solution it will keep on going.

forge... more stats
FACTS:
The Treaty of Waitangi [1840] Maori versions was to allow the Pakeha the right to stay in NZ

The dole is for all people of NZ

75%? involved in Crime yep right doesnt say much for your white system does it which has failed Maori miserably.

85% collecting a benefit that is a total untruth.

Some White Members of Parliament gain entry thru List Seats.... yep your white member gets thrown out the front cause for under performing and they come back in the back door.

It was your white system that gave Maori the special seats Maori had nothing to do with it.

Hey Alamein ...

Just curious, is it your contention that these institutions are for the benefit on 'white' only?!? I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong -

In reply:
The parents need to take more responsibility.
I live in an area where maori kids as young as 14 are pregnant and are on proud display by the parents who think its cool that they are going to have a mokopuna .
I am surrounded by maori parents who get up early on a benefit day , shoot down to countdown and come back with boxes of beers and one packet of groceries.
I witness every weekend young maori boys wearing gang colours and being 'high 5'ed by adults who then offer them a can of booze.
Christmas day , my own 3 yr old grand daughter was a witness to a young maori girl getting the bash from her boyfreind, all because she spent all the money on groceries but on that same note,
my own niece was involved in the bag snatching incident in Papatoetoe and another was involved in a home invasion in Pakuranga.
So I am no stranger to how off the rails our youth have become.
We have many maori organisations who are given grants from the govt to help tackle maori poverty and yet none have been able to step away from their own beauracrasy.
The Maori party alone was only formed based on the seabed and foreshore debacle and have so far done nothing or offered any solution to whats happening around us pertaining to this.
Instead they come up with ridiculous things like 'free uni entry for all maori students'
When a march was organised for 'stop the child abuse' , only 80 people turned up and most of them were pakeha.!!!!
compared to the 1000's that attended the hikoi to Wellington.
There was no haka , no maori flag and worst of all ,
Only one maori leader
They are worth more than a piece of land and a body of water.
You are right, we need somebody to take action now.

Homework for kids... tells me teachers are under performing in earning their pay of between 40-80,000 per year.

Finally, my dear your so wound up over what you perceive acrimony. It boogles the minds of many when you put forward so many selective untruths.

If you want to continue to be indoctrinated that is your choice.
I have made mine with considered and thoughtful research.

Re:Maori activists on the warpath Reply to this message
Hey Stubborn ...

Good - but terribly sad - content in your Post. I don't know how to say it without being shot-down, but I think it's time many Maori began to take control over what they can influence and encourage their young to do the same ...

Alamein may well argue that Maori cannot do so under a 'white' system - an opinion she is entitled to if in fact she does hold such ideas - but to argue that Maori cannot survive in the current educational climate is to deny the many who HAVE.

A daughter of a friend of ours sadly said to her mother that Pita Sharples' statement or wishes about Maori entry to university did no one any favours at all. And how can it?

As always, just an opinion ...

- Hey Alamein

If I could be bothered, I'd be offended by your comments, condescending comments at that!!

~ 'Finally, my dear'
~ 'If you want to continue to be indoctrinated that is your choice.'
~ 'Homework for kids... tells me teachers are under performing in earning their pay of between 40-80,000 per year'

By our supplying of Homework to children, you have deduced that we are under-performing? How would you define parents who allow their children to enter school without even - in many sad cases - the children being able to write their own name? Count to 10? Name their parents?

How indeed would you label them?

You label someone who doesn't hold your views as 'indoctrinated', you - and that hohepahuria person - make judgements solely upon what someone includes in their Post ...

Arrogant beyond belief -

Good to have you back with your hopping along waewae.
My uncle 72 had both legs amped from the knees down and one wouldn't know it.

I am not into contention where facts are concerned.
They are white institutions for all who can learn under their rules and regulations......

FACTS ...they are run by Whites with a white kaupapa that includes the Maori Colleges within the white Universities

Now I see funding is being cut to Polytechnics and Unis, within those halls of learning the first courses to get cut will be?..... nah its only a guess better watch this space!!! Ive lost contact with those that are in the know.

Re:Maori activists on the warpath Reply to this message
There is just so much in life that one has to do for one self; and it is high time that ten of thousands of sad/ass moaners out there stopped blaming others, blaming 'history', and grew up. The worst of it is; the fact that thousands know full well the difference between right and wrong, and the consequences of either, but choose the wrong path then blame the system for their decision when it all goes wrong. It's not as if some of us haven't had to adapt as 'life' in general changes year by year; we all have to.
