very bored - guns were supplied to a particular group of maori for the explicit purpose of wiping out large populations of maori - which they did - on behalf of oh so innocent settlers -
disgusting to hear a descendant of oh so innocent settlers trying to distort that one !
and what the armed maori didnt finish - the non maori brought in mercenaries to do the job.
so righteous are those who glow so brightley. |

nah powley - it is the land it was exchanged for that is now worth a quid or two.
the blanket is only worth what maori are being paid under treatty settlements - still somewhat less than the lands. |

| tu, any lands that are held under freehold title will remain with the existing owner whether they were taken illegaly or not. that is why the treaty settlements are being given valuable inner-city land which is often land that was bought by govt and councils many years ago for future hospital or schools etc. this is why we have no land set aside now for schools and hospitals for future institutions because they have been given to maori through treaty settlements. you won't be getting any of my land tu, because it is all freehold. it's mine and only death can take it off me. |

What is disgusting is blaming "the sheep" for the disgusting conduct of the "shepherd", once again i say to you tu_tangata, please try and work out who your enemy is, it is NOT the vast majority of settlers, but hey faark it, we're white, we'll do for targets in the blame game aye? |

The adversarial spirit of what you state Tu Tangata is bang on!
The TOW proceedings take on an "International-like" diplomatic flavor with the forum design and agenda entirely dictated by the crown playing to the genteel negotiative nature of maoridom and its elders. The issues are really viewed as being OUTSIDE of the purview of regular domestic law such as the CRIMES ACT etc!
Whoever thought pakeha and its govts would be so altruistic as to revive the TOW and give back the country to its indigenous peoples purely because it was "the right thing" to do?? |

Ah Jacque
The public land you talk of is now under its rightful guardianship.
It will be available for the schools etc needed within the structures of society.
The difference now though is the Crown (taxpayers) will be paying Maori rent for this privelege |

What are Maori so pissed about anyway. They slaughtered and chased off weaker tribes and stole their land and women only a few years before? It was the Maori way. Then it happened to them.
Do unto others huh? |

There are 600 thousand Maori yes? Of those 600k, how many are going to recieve anything?
I know my nephew is part Maori. But does not belong to any iwi. He will get nothing. But is entitled to it just as much as the rest of Maori.
I would like to see all Maori get an equal portion. That will never happen though. It goes only to a select few. And my part Maori nephew will not see one cent. |

Its 2009 Vry
Step up to todays world.
We acknowledge some of what you say that happened years back.
Another time,another place.
It is now that we should be thinking about, after all that is what we all have any control over. |

there is plenty of facility for young urban Maori to register for their slice of the pie.
They have a bit of recognition & assistance out there to help them find their tribal whakapapa.
If it is of concern, start by contacting Waipereria Trust in West Auckland & get some guidance for the right direction |

| I should get them to look into it. Apparently thier grandmother just started crying and refused to tell them when they asked. Guess she wanted them to have nothing to do with it and look forward not back. Smart woman. I think they are going to respect her wishes. |

Most of the thinkers walk with heads held high & looking forward Vry
The past has been & the way ahead lays in how we treat our tomorrows
Brown or White
Its simple if we shrug off some of our conditioning & have the same goals |

unfortunately our prejudices toward each other & have been a barrier for both sides to move forward.
Nowadays it is up to the individual to decide what is best for them.
Modern, educated Maori can see unity between the races is the best way but the old school thinking from both sides keeps the divides open.
It will happen one day, mainstream NZ opinions are not necessarily what is seen daily on the message boards |

| There would be unity between races if Maori would stop seperating themselves from everyone else. Why do you need special healthcare? Special this special that, and and your own jails even wtf? You're all just a bunch of special fkrs aren't you :) |

Wrong, the guns were bought from autralia by the Maori Chief that went to england to first write the Maori language. England refused him muskets and gave him gifts. On the way back to nz he sold all his gifts in aussie and bought guns. Then went back to his warlike ways in NZ. He also took back a mirror. He used to show it to enemies and tell them he'd captured their mana :)
Ok I really gotta go now. Aint nothing but biased Maori versions of everything here. |
