Any form of violence is appalling!!
But I do wonder how many people truly look out for their neighbours when it comes to domestic violence...ask Women's Refuge or some agency like it, then you'd find the stats on "un-reported" violence in the home is very sad. How often do we hear on the news "we hear it every night" or "we didn't want to get involved" but throw a public figure in the mix and people with "no-mud-on-them" come out firing.
Don't 4get she agreed to take the money and say nothing. Go back on the trail of this mess and you'd also find that every1 who knew about this from day1 said nothing...her friends, the hospital where she got treatment...surely! |

YES Veitch should go. He is so fast at recommending other people resign. He is now receiving the treatment he so richly deserves. I have always said what go around comes around and this is proving to be so in this case. FANTASTIC.

If somebody broke your back you would want more than $100K. Tony Veitch is just a LITTLE creep and I don't know how he ever got the job at TVNZ. I can't stand him'

If you want to know who has been driving the Vietch story look at who benefits by going to the Olympic Games in his place - he has paid and is still paying.
It is all part of the not so friendly dog eat dog or (female canine) eat dog rivalry in the newsroom of TV1, which is no different to other NZ media
Interestingly its about time that ordinary people began blowing the whistle on the drinking and other habits of all journalists who go out of their way to crow over those who make mistakes, although I don't think Vietch is in this category
In general the habits of journalists - the way they treat their wives and husbands, the way many of them drink and some of the other things they get up to - would make magnificent reading in the most lurid of the tabloid press.
We just don't hear of their boorish behavior because in general where job rivalry is not involved they protect their own from editors down.
This is especially so in the print media where names and faces, especially of the back room girls and boys, are cloaked in some anonymity. |

Get a life guys, this happened two years ago. Hes sorry. Alot more than I can say for most people. Its not like he repeatedly beat the poor woman and is denying everything. Hes Sorry. He's being honest. Once again... alot more than what can be said for most domestic assaults!! Get a life and leave him to live his! I do not condone violence in any measure... but people do make mistakes

I have seen Mr Veitch in action at corporate events and must say he is a real showman and arrogant. It frustrates me that these guys think they can pay there way out of any situation. This was a serious offence and he should have been charged - I am assuming he intimidated his ex and wormed his way out of taking responsibility for his unacceptable behaviour. He is jerk!

absolutely right, leave these people alone and let them live their lives the way they have chosen to deal with it, it is not anyone elses business. time to stop the pathetic "witch hunts" and sinister criticisms based on anger and malice that we seem to have in this country. kiwis should take the log out of their own eyes before they start pulling someone elses eyes to pieces

Of course the other side to this is that he or she could probably get paid "heaps" for an exclusive with Womans weekly or womans day. Maybe the news release was by arrangement.

What a pity that he could not do the same thing and keep his nose out of other peoples lives. Stop feeling sorry for the guy. He doesn't for any one else. In fact he becomes a vulture sniffing around waiting for their weak spot. It is wonderfull to see him squarming for a change. To who ever leaked the story good on ya.

Well what did he expect a raise?
That is the reason why he shold be exposed,
If he is going to preach on T.V about sportsmanship,
well he needs to practise what he preaches,
im not saying he should be shot, but mate if he was a low income earner living in South Aucks and moari,
he would be scum to the public, and being scrutinised,
and thats true,
but because he has alittle more money and he can pay his way out he should be given leanency, no way,
but with the fact thathis former partner hasnt actually pressed charges makes me question her motives,
and why this has been put out there,
I BET TONY FEELS RIPPED OFF NOW |

I agree with you totally. I am a victim of domestic violence and although I do not condone what Tony did, I believe he is remorseful and he has certainly paid. If ALL Black can assault their partners (one was pregnant at the time) and get permanent name suppression, still get to play for the All Blacks and their life goes on as if it never happened. Personally I can't wait for him to be on the airwaves and the TVNZ Sports News. Grow up people and realise that this goes on everyday in all manner of ways. It isn't the right thing to do, it doesn't excuse what Tony did but, he does deserve a second chance.

And this is why the cycle of violence goes on and on. Our children are growing up thinking that violence is ok... If you say "sorry" it means its ok? Yes its ok, "until the next time you piss me off and I break your back". Time to set an example, and if Tony has to be the scape goat, so be it. He should have got the help he needed BEFORE he lost the plot.

RUBBISH!!!! You do not solve a problem by causing another. T.V. has come out with his confession, now we need to support his position and him. He is not a saint but who in todays world is 'perfect'??? I am opposed to violence of any type but you don't solve anything with a boycott!

The question that arises for me is âwhen is a crime not a crimeâ..? Any assault whether that be on an adult or child is a crime⦠This assault was serious enough to put this individual in a wheel chair and should be dealt with as a serious criminal assault on a member of our society...I would hope to see Tony Veitch go to jail and serve the time that this level of assault warrants⦠The fear for me is if Tony Veitch isnât charged as others are charged with similar assaults then itâs seen, if your rich you can buy your way out of anything⦠

I'd say Tony has paid a very big price already for his uncontrolled actions.Who else in that situation has to front the National News & explain. He's far better remaining in his current roles & leading by example in future. He'll certainly be under public scrutiny for a very long time & will probably have to face every Joe Bloggs every time he walks out the door.Has he paid enough, I'd say he has. Especially when you consider another case I know of where a man was sent to jail for 4 months for the same thing & released after 6 weeks after his partner lied to get him out.You can guarantee he'll be back inside very soon for the same,if not worse, crime.
