You are generalising ....
and yes I can say that the work I do is a success.
dont understand why you have put social workers in the same category as parole officers & psychologists all three have very different roles and sometimes it isnt due to the social worker as to why a person may fail - if a person or family dont want to or find it hard to make necessary changes that doesnt help them work thru stuff...but it's the workers that get labelled as the failures by society for even trying to go in and help ... Go figure !!
i am not some sort of god or wizard that can wave a wand to fix the problems of the world or the people i work with .... but at least I go in and do help when *** ha *** the fan and at least i am good at my job which is reflected by the positive outcomes of the families i work with . |

my life isnt a disaster ! but i do kinda know where you are coming from when I was in my first year of study i was amazed ! luckily the organisation that were teaching our class social work filtered out the class a bit so we had more social workers thatn clients so to speak !!! |

Good on you Shallum and keep up the good work. I work in the same field, Mental Health and Addictions, it aint no picnic particularly working with individuals and families who just dont want to change. Sometimes you have to leave them in their illness because to them its so normal.
The health system doesnt help much either because theyre more interested in stats thatn wellness so we as social workers dont get the quality time with them that is desperately needed. |
