There was a thread a few weeks back asking why Kiwis of European origin binge drink but Asians don't. We were all baffled at the time. Well, I mentioned it to my GP and there is an incredibly simple answer. Asians have an inferior biochemical pathway in the liver for breaking down alcohol. So toxic products build up quickly and they start feeling wretched quickly, so do not binge.
This is a curious example where an inferior pathway gives its possessors an evolutionary advantage. |

90% of Asians have a defective eye gene, which is why you see so many of them wearing glasses.
I would call this an evolutionary disadvantage, but due to modern technology, ie glasses, this does not present a problem to them operating effectively in society. |

Have a look in any restuarant with asian businesmen having a dinner. They binge drink alright! Just it effects them quicker and generally more violently.
No ice age in asia is the answer to bills comment :-) |

OK, so how did the Asians survive thousands of years ago if they couldn't see a tropical tiger until it was about to sever their jugglar? Maybe short sightedness is a recent mutation, in which case it must confer some advantage to have spread so widely. |

| I realise other races do drink to excess, but there can't be any doubt that most of the people picked up legless by the police are white. Does anyone ever remember a drunk Asian at university? |

You're not too far from the truth.. Maori have a genetic intolerance to alcohol...Howevr, with racial intergration and interbreeding, the tolerance levels are climbing.. Pakeha have a far greater tolerance...
Except of course Mr58 and Stevoc who see inebriation overtake them quite quickly..
