His diatribe in the Press yesterday seem to be accusing the alcohol industry of being responsible for the deaths of the teens in the Hawkes Bay smash.
Actually I have to ask the following questions:
1) What the heck was a LEARNER LICENSE driver doing behind the wheel with other passengers who to the best of my knowledge were not fully licensed?
2) What the heck was she doing drinking THEN driving - police just confirmed that?
3) What was the driver doing with alcohol anyway at that age?
4) Who the blinking heck let them get in the van and drive away with DRUNK LEARNER LICENSE driver?
And Minto would rather go after the alcohol industry in a case where this had lack of PERSONAL - i.e yours/mine - responsibility written all over it. |

| Everytime there is an death or accident that involves youth/cars/alcohol its always the driving age coming into blame, the drinking age etc. But it goes to show that it doesnt really matter what age they have these at there are people that will still provide underage people with alcohol. -Unlicensed (or not on correct license) people will still be able to access cars and drive them, the license wont prevent them. And as Paul Henry said on breakfast yesterday morning, it doesnt matter what age you start driving at, its the WHEN you start driving that you are most inexperienced. |

| Relax...it's just Minto, had his 15 minutes of fame in the 80's (springbok tour) and hasn't come to terms with the fact that Andy Warhole never promised him more than one period of 15 minutes. |

typical of the socialist mentality... blame the evil corporation rather than the parents and the kids themselves.
I was "trapped" in a clients vehicle this week listening to newstalk where Danny (i've done everything) Watson was talking about alcohol and naturally we had the holier than thou brigade rabbitting on about putting even more taxs on booze and the rest of the knee jerk reactionary BS because some people can't get their sh1t together while drunk or while drinking. Frankly I enjoy the odd beverage and have done so for a number of years and have never broken anything, hit anyone or otherwise become a menace to society (other than coming in here) and hate the idea of paying yet more tax to the government to brainlessly squander. So I started thinking about a real solution
REAL SOLUTION
A new law that states that any criminal act committed whilst drunk draws twice the penalty of the same act committed while sober. No leeway for the judges to wimp out, more money for the government as fines and court fees would be doubled (but mot my money)
Honestly I can't see a downside
The other thing is tighten the rules on underage drinking. If they're caught in a bar or trying to buy from a liquor store they are reasponsible, not the bar and bar staff.
Another idea would be the source of supply law where the purchaser of alcohol for under age drinkers is legally libel to ensure their behaviour and if they can't be *** ed getting off their lazy butts to do so, they share in the joy of fines and PD with their offspring.
right thats my speil, breakfast is over, on to the new day |

It's just not the same since we did away with putting people in the stocks for public drunkeness, and with public floggings and public hangings for those who go a bit beyond throwing up over someone's shirt, car or letterbox. All it leaves us with for entertainment is sport, the telly, movies, the internet, video games, and avatars.
And we have to chuck away perfectly good rotten fruit and veges that we once could've saved up & chucked at people in the village stocks who clearly needed that sort of encouragement to re-focus their miserable lives.
Oh well, hopefully things will be better on planet Destiny where I expect everyone will be moving to soon. At least they have a lovely, modest, caring man for a bishop and a king :o) . |

Have you noticed something about Minto over 30 years.
1. The VAST array of things he has a negative opinion on?
2. Never has an actual answer to anything, just is against, always wants someone else (the Govt.) to fix it.
This would indicate, that all he wants is his "name in the paper".
Also maybe he should take the advice my father gave to me. By all means change the world, start with yourself. |
