depends on the kid
some are fine to start young, others should never be allowed within 40 metres of one |

Gotta agree with that one, I hate to think what a hyperactive lil bugger like I was could do to his best mate with a gun in hand. Others will do just fine and be responsible shooters... Totally depends on the kid, but since laws and regulations don't work that way, I'd say 13-15 is a good age, (haha, right about when the hormones h!t [damn sensor]) maybe younger for farm boys. |

only person who can make that decision is you....
...some shouldn't drive at 25...others sail the world solo at 17...
...you know your kid best... |

@ me_odie ....What about farm girls? ;-)
My 15 yo daughter has been learning firearm safety through ATC & Navy Cadets - she knows her stuff, takes part in small bore shoots, and is a crack shot. She even beat all the boys. :-D |

I've supervised my boys aged (at the time) 9 and 14 with target shooting! They were gob-smacked to discover Mum was a better shot than either of them.
I agree with what other posters have said, it really depends on the kid. I wouldn't leave either of my sons unsupervised with a gun.
My ex-hubby at 42 lacks the maturity to be safe with a gun too! |

| We used a slug gun from 9 or 10 without adult supervision, but we were taught gun safety and responsibility. |
