Been some great reading. Funny as hell some of it.
Simple fact is
1, Right or wrong, many people think what was said was racist. As a politician truth is not important. What is perceived to be true by the public is and no matter what is said after the event is too late.
2, For the Maori party to stand back and do what essentially amounts to nothing only fuels the fire rightly or wrongly that the Maori party is racist. Once again perception not reality is everything in Politics.
I will put my hand up and say I don't like the fact that people feel the need for Maori seats. Which is basically the reason for the Maori parties existence. While they exist they are telling Maori that they need special assistance to survive in this world which is bull . Maori are just as strong and smart as the next guy. At some point Maori need to stand up and say enough! The fact is, good or bad white people are here. Now lets make the best of a bad lot and join the masses.
Any hope that the Maori party stood for anything other than "you stole my toys and I want them back" was lost when they failed to sack the man. Whats sad is they just don't realize how close they came to becoming a party with real Mana |

In 1852 Britain establish a Westminster style government!
Political expediency saw the Maori seats formed, out of political expediency they remain!
Laid squarely at the Legislators feet from the day [1867] political expediency became in effect a separatists nightmare!
A little known fact is that Maori MPs also theoretically represent every electorate in their area as do every List MP over the whole of NZ! |

It would mean putting a stopper on a few uncouth radical mouths temporarily at least.

A Ngapuhi leader says Hone Harawira's email fiasco has put race relations in this country back 20 years.
The Maori Party MP remains under fire after saying sorry for the wording, but not the sentiment, of an abusive e-mail he sent to a party supporter who had criticised his recent Paris sightseeing trip. The email contained expletives in relation to white people.
Ngapuhi leader David Rankin says the MP has caused more racial division than any other single person in a whole generation.
He says the relationship between National and the Maori Party was building race relations in New Zealand to the best they have ever been - and now Mr Harawira has put that progress back 20 years.
Mr Rankin says he will be approaching Mr Harawira to remind him that his priority as an MP is to focus on his work in Parliament and the electorate. |

Much ado about a standard ploy used by every cheat and liar caught red handed.
Obfuscation......blame the cookie jar.
Or red herring to keep it simple.
They all do it,and the race card is a handy ace to play.The cheat diverts attention from the act,and to expect a cheat and thief to sincerely aplogise,either for the act or the subsequent obfuscation is naive.

| Racist remarks always seem to have more impact if uttered by white folks,not so by non coloured people,its good to see some sort of response by the media and Maori party leaders for a change re loonie Hone ,talkback hosts M. Laws excepted are so scared of getting sacked by their employers for giving their own point of views it seems.All the political correctness that seems to dominate the media in this country is appalling. |
