I have to agree if he lives in NZ he has to follow the ethics of the country, that goes for all other non NZ'ers living here speak the language follow the NZ'er way of life. When I lived in Oz I had to adjust to flip flops (jandals), swimmas (togs), oh and this is priceless Feesh and cheeps ( not fish and chips) lol. Adding a bit of humour to this monstrous topic.

Let's not get off the point here - he wasn't starving, he wasn't about to eat the dog because he was wasting away, he beat and stamped on the dog causing it undue pain and suffering. Sadly, dogs are so loyal that even as it was dying it probably still loved its master. Personally I would like 5 minutes alone in a room with the owner - and no, he wouldn't have a smile on his face afterwards. He should be deported.

I'm horrified at the judicial system over this. What has the guy learnt "nothing". Yet if a dog bites/defends on his own property he's killed nothing less (humanely of course). The guys a pig that's for real and the judicial system stuffed up. How can people be educated on animal cruelty when the punishment is short of recognising the extreme animal abuse. You got to question some of the judges in this country.

The secret to tender meat is NOT to stress the animal before slaughter!!!!
The adrenalin makes the meat tough.

I always find it interesting that people are more outraged over animal abuse than they are over murders and other crimes. Are all you people vegetarians or do you just prefer the mentality of dogs to humans?

I always find it interesting how much more some people read into the thread topic! I hadn't realised this was titled do you rate human cruelty more or less than animal cruelty.

Hey tesmah2001 - I don't think that it is that people are MORE outraged than other crimes, they just care about both! Crime in general. Anyway, who speaks our for the animals, can they tell us when they are in pain or being victimised or ill treated? No. Most humans can, because we have reason and choice.

I'd be happy for 5 minutes alone with any of the gutless (male or female) ba*tards who beat up little children too - you want bullying? bring it on. And before you say it. no I don't think it puts me on the same level as them - it just evens out the odds a bit.

Re:Dogs Death-Culturally Ok or Pathetic Reply to this message
I agree, stomp and punch this little ****t@rd into oblivion. What kind of judge hands out a sentence like that? Same should be done to the judge too, see what he thinks the crime is worth then.

On the subject of stupid judges - did anyone see the article about the P dealer getting his sentence lowered because his pregnant partner killed herself during the trial? Load of b*ll*cks - you do the crime, you do the time, plain and simple.

Re:Dogs Death-Culturally Ok or Pathetic Reply to this message
I know this is a late posting in regards to this topic. When I heard of the incident I felt sick. And yes, I agree, if you come to a country you need to abide by their laws. If we went to China and did something that was "ok" in our own culture but was (morally) and legally wrong in that country then we would suffer the consequences. As for the judge's sentence - maximum allowed 3 years imprisonment and/or $50,000 fine. I'm glad the judge did not accept it was culturally ok in chinese culture to do this to a dog. However, given the very lenient sentence of 4 months house arrest, $400+ dollars to RSPCA for autopsy, and $1000 reparation to owner this is not acceptable punishment. At the very least the prosecution should be going for the fullest sentence available, and the courts giving serious consideration to same - if we continue to dish out "slaps on the wrist" then unfortunately precedents will be set for which the courts must abide by for other prosecutions with similar circumstances. As for reviewing the student visa on it's expiry, this poor excuse for a human being should have been shipped straight back home on conviction. There just is no excuse for treating an animal (or human) that way just because you lose your temper. If we continue to let this behaviour continue, no wonder we have young children committing more serious crimes.
