Planza, they are not protesting - they are fighting a war. They are being invaded both culturally and militarily in their own lands by forces so powerful they dont have the resorce to resist militarily so they turn to terrorism and THEY ARE WINNING. Why would they give up when they have struggled so hard for so long and America is beaten. Time is on their side.
Generally this thread is formed on two divides. The ignorant (with respect to muslum life and culture) whose only experience is from media and very casual contact with a couple of refugees or immigrants and on the other hand people who have lived in the culture. It is clear those who have lived in the culture in the main have no fear of Muslums at all.
Those who have not are xenaphobic in the extreme and many are just down right red necked racists, to entrenched in attitude to educate themselves and too ignorant to understand the damage they do. |

Wow racism runs extreme in here...
What makes them any different to our extremist Christians, they do what God tells them to?
Why would you be so threatened by the clothes someone wears?
We do not own this country, these are people most of whom are trying to escape a sort of living hell for them, if it was you would you like people to make lame racist blogs about you?
It's not their fault that our entire Government system is a waste of time and money.
You are taking a whole race of people and holding them accountable for the actions of a few! If that's okay then I can say that everyone who uses the internet is obviously small minded and retarded, none of you can spell, are threatened by something new and therefore should not be allowed to exist. Or is it different when you are being discriminated against personally?
What is so wrong with difference that it sends you all into a hidden panic anywho?
Seriously I am more disgusted by the inability to correctly spell and use grammar, perhaps more time spent reflecting on yourself rather than verbally abusing another culture would be time well spent? |

It is a religion made up of all races. So is Christianity. Yes it is sad. Not only do we hear of the wholesale taking of life that happens in bombings as in Pakistan, but there are other, more insidious instances. In 2004, a couple of months before the Tsunami, there were gangs of Muslim villagers in Western Indonesia that were roaming around just executing non-Muslims on the spot (in particular Christians). It is truly a sad day for humanity when people, not just Muslims, feel they can do these sorts of things in the name of religion. So called American Christians bombing abortion clinics, deliberate persecution of Christians (in particular Catholics) in India. I am certain that, if there is a God, this is not the sort of *rap he intended. Never get religion. Get God by all means, but religion will screw you every time. |

| No hardball, it does not have to happen here in 20 years. How we as NZ'rs deal with the issues today will determine the future and it does not have to be how you say. The choice is ours to make and the time to make it is now. It is encouraging to see the number of open minded people who post reasoned, informed and logical views in response to the rubbish and abuse being promoted by a few here. |

| Inbred - you are playing on words. What she says is logical and makes sense so it has credibility. Racism is a direct consequence of ignorance based on illogical fear. That is why is it illegal in this country. I read the posts here from people wanting criminals exiled and pilloried from people who are openly breaking the law themselves, in a most serious way. |

| So Bruce....tell me please? Why would people seek to escape hell just to recreate it in their adopted country? No doubt amongst the small Islamic communities here there will be a few agitators looking to ferment hatred but there are obviously far more people living here prepared to hate them for their religious beliefs. | It is not a fact at all, NZ is not a Christian country - there is no official religion here, read the constitution. The fact christianity is most commonly practised or acknowledged here does not make this a Christian country, or fore fathers, who obviously had a lot more sense than most of us, deliberately rejected the concept of a sectarian country. Who are you to go against the country's consititution. |

| You say Iran executes Christians every year. Iran does not execute Christians, Iran shows tolerance for those who practice Christianity and even Judaism, they only execute Muslims who convert to another religion, and those who practice the Bahai faith |

| Oh and NZ doesn't have a written constitution, its constitution is made up of various legal documents such as the Treaty and Waitangi and the Bill of Rights, the latter I believe guarantees people the right to practice their own religion free from persecution, which a lot of people on this thread seem intent on starting |

| Brilliant. We openly discuss our logical western thinking and sensibilities. We debate with a western viewpoint and we think we are so right in our way of looking at the world that all other cultures must surely see things the same way, or come round to the same way of thinking in the end. There are other philosophies out there. There are other people with views of the world that are so diametrically opposed to ours that we cannot even begin to fathom how these people think. How arrogant some of you are to consider that your sensibilities are so correct that all others must think in the same way. I have a friend who works in security in Iraq. He looks like a local and if fluent in Farsi. Back in New Zealand he was attacked by a shop keeper in Mt Roskill. They had been discussing the gradual assimilation of New Zealand into Islam, when the shop keeper suddenly twigged that this guy was actually a Kiwi and not a Muslim. We cannot understand how they think. As Churchill once said, âAn appeaser is one who feeds the crocodile in the hope it will eat him last. Sometimes it eats him first anyway.â |

You miss the point inbred....it is not arrogance to stand against racism. It is an obligation of being a citizen in a free country. Most of what is posted here on the anti muslum side of the argument is uninformed racism not based on anything other than western tv news and media reporting.
The concept that all muslums have a secret agenda to take over the world and make it one religion is rubbish. It would be laughable if people here like you were not seriously feeding it to us and using it to incite fear of decent people who share with us much more than that which separates us. They are after all human beings. |

| I agree, it is not arrogance to stand against racism. But the experience from the rest of the world is that our moral view and humanitarian attitudes allow minorities to stand up and claim that racism is being practiced against them and we bend over backwards to agree. Yet when they practice racism (and it happens often) we are accused of cultural insensitivity and we also bend over backwards to agree. Reverse racism is just as bad, but seems to be tolerated, almost encouraged as a freedom of cultural expression. With some of these people you would have more chance of changing the fundamental nature of a brick by talking to it than you would have of changing their attitudes. The concept that Islam will take over the world is actually preached by a number of Muslim clerics. Keep feeding the crocodile. |

Jdyhrberg; I don't whether there are as many bigots around as you believe. NZ already has representitives of every type of religion. Few people are against moderate moslims.
Its the fanatics that are a threat to everybody.
Trouble is, the children of moderates can be radicalised within a few months by agitators. |
