What Ever Happened To Iraena Asher? Reply to this message
Three years have passed since the young student/model went missing without trace from Piha west Auckland, following her pleas for help from the police, and her making a 111 emergency call.

The response then was for the police to send a taxi to her assistance. Let's not forget, the young lady was clearly in distress at the time.....but no police response at all, other than to sent a taxi, that made its way to a completely wrong address.

Well....! everything has gone quiet.
For all intents and purposes, the case is closed....except, three years later, almost to the day, police anti-terrorist squads ransacked the Asher home.

What ever happened to Iraena Asher?

What ever happend to a dependable and trustworthy ploice force?

Is this the way of things now in Helengrad?

What an interesting question! You have raised a very valid question! It seems to have been put into the "too hard" basket , and forgotten!

A thousand accolades to you for remembering this young woman who has disappeared from our midst.(and there are many more). She, was someones daughter, someones friend, and had a right to be listened to at the time. She was virtually ignored. Why? If I remember correctly, it was stated that she sounded disorientated and confused - possibly as the result of drugs. How dare anyone make a judgement that denies a persons rights to assistance because they seem to be unable to communicate coherently!! I remember being totally appalled over the way she was completely abandoned by the very people she was seeking help from, at the time. How judgemental can our law enforcement people be? It smacks of the old addage - "she was asking for it," don't you think? This is the twentyfirst century and unfortunatley, nothing seems to have changed in the thinking of our police force. I sympathise with her family and what they have been put through, loosing this lovely lady, with no one seeming to give a damn. I'm not a religous person by any means, but I think that the - "judge not, lest you be judged" comes into play in this, and most probably, countless other cases as well.
We all have a right to life. Victims foremost - the offenders gave up their rights the moment they decided to offend.

Just a post note for anyone who is interested, or cares enough about the increasing violent crime statistics in this country; log on to Garth McVicars "Sensible Sentencing NZ" (if you've got the stomach to) and read about the senseless carnage and violence that is occurring in this country, with the justice system seemingly aligning their vote with the offenders of same. It's disgusting, to think that life in this country, for victims, is so cheap.

Cheers Pixyhix, at the risk of sounding like a fan club....It amazes me how people can get so stoked up over a couple of kyakers, or some home sick bod....and how easy it is for them to turn their back on what matters here.

WEe have lost this little lady through criminal negligence if you ask me. But you will probably find the web master sees that as a little too provocative and out of fear for Mr. Plod will pull this comment.

Law and Order in this country is nothing short of a disgrace.
I for one have neither faith, nor confidence in the judiciary.

It seems things are beginning to hot up again over this case.

A Google search will give some indication of how this family have not only been mistreated so, but victimised, and traumatised as well.

You can almost hear the jack boots

It seems people are more concerned with getting another day off than for justice.
This is a case in point.

The thing is that anyone who didn't know her or her family does not actually care about her, we hear about her in the news and go 'ohhhhh that's sad' then we move on to the next sad event. We all pretend to be sad because it is the thing to do and socially expected, but no-one (other than her family of course) actually cares about her. The media is to blame, but that's a whole other story.

The Sensible Sentencing Trust rules!! They at least are up with the times, unlike our excuse for a government. You all know what to do people, vote in National and give these guys the power they deserve!

You say earlier on in this thread, that her phone call to police was disorientated. On drugs etc..
The police on these phone or emergency lines should be train up better to recognise such a call.
She could be on medication: such as diebetic, or mentally ill.
What a grave mistake to make in sending a taxi.
Yes where is this poor girl now.
She could of had more help. There are ways to trace these calls, if she had rung from a phone box.

It really doesn't matter what a person's state of mind or mental health might be....very hard to judge on a telephone, but this is truly a national disgrace and I for one, can't abide the ease with which the loss of this young lady, or anyone else for that matter, can be hushed up and burried so easily in this country.

If anyone thinks that the PCA is independent.....well, I rest my case.

What about the poor family of this youngster? What of them?

So no one has been held accountable? I mean the people who did the blotch up? Wasn't there an "official inquiry"? Surely heads rolled for this.

It sadened and sickened me at the time, but your right over time we forgot about it, ofcourse her friends and family hasnt.

They re-opened the other Henderson case so who knows .. someone somewhere might be doing all they can ...

Someone, somewhere may well be doing all they can....but it is all too late.

If you or I failed to act, failed to give appropriate care, we would be set upon by our peers...the so called inquiry found no one at blame...but didn't miss an opportunity to try to lay blame square on the backs of the taxi operator....but promises were made to review the !!! emergency system, as is always the case after some else suffers injury or even death from its on going failures.

A decision was made that day that contributed to the loss of this innocent young lady. Even while we show concern and discuss it in the forlorn hope that good might ultimately come of it.....her family continues to suffer in the most horrific way. There can be no closure until finally she is found, and someone, somewhere is called to answer for their criminal mistake

Guess What.....? I am assured by the powers that be, that this case is not yet closed....doesn't give you much confidence....but hey! Who knows what will happen next.
Maybe, just maybe....someone at Police HQ will get off their 'whatzitz' and start afresh....I won't let it die away...how about you?

solutionnz; Great topic, great reminder and time the public were given some feedback. I was thinking there might have been another when that woman went missing in the Waitakere's [found deceased]recently. Re the Sensible Sentencing Trust I just hope it signs up and becomes a political party because this is one of the orgs. that Labour is trying to shut down with its electoral bill. Helengrad just hates being reminded of the utter crap they are delivering to the victims of crime in this country.

Re:What Ever Happened To Iraena Asher? Reply to this message
powley9...I don't care too much for speculation....fact of the matter is, this young lady...a youngster like any of our own, called for help from those we can all expect to be able to trust...and they let her down. Effectively, they violated her trust in them, and the trust of the public as well. I don't pretend to speak for any other than myself on this matter, and I would love nothing else, than for anyone out there who feels for this young woman, her family, or for their own children, their wives, mothers, sisters, or themselves even, to speak out, for if we don't, this will all come far too easy for the police to continue to turn their backs on the situation. Among their ranks, there is a least one person who is unworthy of our trust.

The latest from the police....there is currently no one assigned to this case.

It is being attended on a day by day basis...bloody great!

I wonder if the same fate has not already befallen some other innocent kid out there.

Do you have faith in our ploice?

Would you rely on the 111 Emergency system?

Should it be the responsibility (as it appears to be today) of the police to decide if charges will be laid against offenders....or should they enforce the law as it is written and leave the judge and jury bit to the courts?

Are you happy with the increasing number of cases of police brutality in this country?

And is it the blame of our recruitment policies that has seen us bring in hardened police from Britain in particular?

Re:What Ever Happened To Iraena Asher? Reply to this message
Our imported police are thrilled! they're on holiday! they can busy themselves with paperwork and choose to respond only if they feel like it... Talk to any South African, they say their police force is corrupted not to mention, were brought up in a 'racist' society - hell! let's bring 'em to NZ they'll be great???!!!

I don't think anyone relies on the 111 system, if the guy that stabbed the graffiti "Artist" called 111, he would have been low priority so he decided a weapon would serve his requirement for safety better...

The reason that the police are responsible for deciding to lay charges is because we have these absolutely STUPID laws (and getting stupid-er!) that they are enforcing, they lay charges over an EAR FLICKING yet cannot assign anyone to Asher's case..... trouble is, a smacked butt is far easier to deal with and the OFFENDER is fairly easy to catch because they're at home looking after and being responsible for their child's behaviour!

We don't have a police FORCE in New Zealand, we have a bunch of government employees that are so busy explaining how busy they are that they never get anything done. We are fools if we expect them to protect us - we have to look after ourselves.

Safest thing for us to do is befriend a couple of criminals or gang members - they're far more likely to have the time to protect us when we call...

So very true. I had a business down the line a few years back, and I put together deal with a local gang....for our security needs. The place had been plagued with problems up till then....not even a minnor glitch after.

Our police are becoming the closest thing to organised crime that you can get.

It is they who decide who will or will not face the law. Bl....dy disgusting if you ask me.

When very senior ploice warn district caommanders not to report 'P' lab details or investigations in hand because the public perception of their efficiency might be tainted....Ggggggggeeeeee eezzzzzuzzzzzzzzzzz!

Starts to stink Huh!
