| chris i would have to agree with the rest of the posters. To use that old argument is sending us back to the days we wont to forget about, and dose nothing but produce more hate. We will never know what the Maoris would or would not have as a diffrent future was forced on them. The argument is how do we resolve it with out more people having to pay for past wrong doings. |

The point of a forum is to share opinions aint it? If you dont wanna hear mine then maybe YOU should piss off. Or are you just here to voice yours?
I dont know alot about the moari party, or any other party. I couldnt really care less about politics. But if we can get rid of one more racially focused thing in this country then im all for it. Imagine if we started calling things pakeha this, european that... Moari would go nuts. Whats wrong with just being a Kiwi? |

One question peopelunited. Would you see an issue with sole Pahkeha seats/or party for that matter?
How about The Pakeha All Blacks? (tho they would be pretty useless i must admit) |

| NO. And really the only feeback worth reading is from those who are au fait with New Zealand's political history, history of the Treaty of Waitangi and the impact of colonisation. Why? Because only then can one realise the injustice of equality within Parliament if the Maori seats were abollished. |

Thats not what we are, I dont want to be a kiwi .. I want to be a New Zealander.
I doubt Maori want to be anything other than Maori.
LOL as an aside this group is strange .. when someone is having a go at someone else .. they dont aim their point at that person or even use the persons name :) |

Exactly as you said to share opinions on the forum, and if you dont like hearing some, it might be an idea to access the govt.nz. page and them Maori Politics in this country, do you really seriously think you are going to learn on this forum!
A knowledge of the countries history is a guide if that is better for you. If you dont know anything about politics in general use the same web page as well, and then you might see or understand more about the country and whats happening today, 2008 and why its happening!
Kiwi identity is native too this country anyway, no where in the world identifies with kiwi except here!
People can identify with anything they damn well choose!
If the cap fits wear it!! - BOB MARLEY!
you might learn something from the above lyrics, from us all obliging people who want to move forward!! |

marisearch...Dont get me wrong, im playing devils advocate here.
It was argued by Maori in court that the third article in the treaty that ALL Maori and British Subjects were to be treated equally and have the same rights under the law.
My question is....why is it that we blindly accept that Maori can have a political party, seperate this, seperate that...ad nauseum. And it is deemed not acceptable that europeans do the same. |

| I applaud your feedback - as your probably voicing the opinions of many. However to answer your question, whats wrong with being Kiwi...Well there's nothing wrong with being Kiwi - only that being KIWI means acknowleding diversity in cultures. We have NZ European who are Kiwi, and their homeland is Europe. We have NZ Chineese who are Kiwi, but there homeland in China. We have NZ Indian who are Kiwi, but there homeland is India. We have Maori - whose homeland in Aotearoa NZ. Therefore, as first nation people of this country, our homeland, we should be able to exercise our right to have input in the governance of our country. Six seats of the 120 is not asking alot. And these are some of the huge differences in cultural perspectives and ideologies that make the concept of being a KIWI that much more difficult. Cheers. |

bone jake!
the treat itself had principle added to it by geoffrey palmer of the fourth labour government to give further clarification, so it could be interpreted better for the government and nz people maori and non!
In the 90s more principles were added by Doug Graham of National , for the same reasons, more clarity for like minded people,Why????
Ambiguity! okay, was there any input for Maori people, only minimal post Waitangi Treaty Act 1975!!
Who needed the clear message so it could be understood, the whole damn country thats who! Maori and Non Maori who were present back in the day at the signing had differing opinions and views as to why they signed in 1840!
Hello read up on the Treaty! itself and the history! It is not legally entrenched in parliament anyway! And if it could be done away with why> hasnt the government done it! The third article, sheesh! please!
Did you know that there was also an ommitted fourth that was there for religious purposes? not recognised at all, good riddance! |

| Good question. But lets look at it like this. Maori Party vs Non-Maori Party. Believe it or not the word Pakeha doesn't translate into European only, its anyone else who isn't Maori. So in that sense, the majority of the other party's (bar Labour maybe) are predominately Non-maori or Pakeha. Case solved. What I find fascinating is that the Maori Party, acutally Maori in general are the minority...we as Maori are the minority. So where is the threat in the indigenous people of the land having 5% of the seats in parliament? Something to think about anyway, cheers. |
