| Maori may be around alot longer than us, but most will locked up for crimes. We whites educated them and gave them something they never had before opportunity. Abolish maori seats. We are all one aren't. Oh no that's right we're not. They are turning NZ into a min Sth Africa, and I'm off sick of paying for them over and over When we all leave they will have nothing except booze and dope. |

If the Maoris want to get rid of the negativity and steretype they face on a daily basis.
Then Maoris, themselves should stand-up and say we are acapable lot and we DO NOT need Maori seats, lets get rid of them.
Moari seats in a non-Maori persons views give the image that Maoris want to hide behind this sort of protectionsism and keep riding the Waitangi Treaty gravy train.
Moari leaders like Mr Sharples and Ms Turia should try and preach this to their folk instead of telling them to think, "Woe is me" and feel sorry forthemselves.
If they are capable they should move forward, get rid of the seats and face the realities of todays world.
Other wise, they will continue to face the stereotypes they face in daily life today.
I sincerly hope they get rid of the seats as I feel we are all equal. |

Thats the trouble with wikipedia short and concise.
Hilter Hated all black people look at the olympics 1936 and Jesse owens.
Yes we must retain Maori seats in fact Maori need to have more input in the parliamentary process.I am not a Maori but often wonder why people keep pushing this cr ap about one people etc.
Read a little on this "treaty of Waitangi" you will see it is not all that a lot of people are pushing esp. Gvt. Departments.
I think that a true revelation of this "treaty" be understood before anyone can actually move forward.
We are however now Governed by Parliament so Maori need more representation there.
Just my opinion. :) |

Yea good on ya Amy, I've been trying to avoid this thread lol don't know why haha as I am a Maori myself with a wonderful life in Aus at the moment. All my life I've wanted to get into NZ politics and getting my degrees was the first step in my journey, I'm only 24 at the moment and counselling youth right now. I don't think anyone or anything should stop Maori from being in Parliment but I don't agree with the Maori party ways (Sorry brothers and sisters). I don't believe you can have Maoritanga in Parliment as a whole (like you can't infuse Maoritanga and Pakeha politics) , as Maoritanga is one thing and Parlimental Politics are another, its like a budist monk being a pastor of a christian church, it just doesn't work, however I do believe that you can SERVE and represent the Maori people in Parliment trying to make a better future for All the iwi (people) of Aotearoa.
I'm not a radical Maori but a realist Maori, Working with people of the world, understanding differences, working through differences and forming solutions that is best for ALL not just one or two cultures or parties. To me its all about today and the children of tomorrow, not yesterday's mistakes.
I don't believe that NZ is heading towards Sth Africa but I do believe WE as a NATION can do better. |

NO the Maori seats should not be abolished. Pakeha have been trying to un-do what they created since 1902. It aint gonna happen!
Blaming Maori for Pakeha creations - the Treaty, the Maori seats and Separatism is a cop-out.
There should always have been one law for all New Zealanders. But as all Maori know, there never was.
So is it racist to say there should be one law for everyone, now that Maori losses are almost absolute? From the beginning Pakeha have always been good at creating "Laws of Convenience" to suit their purposes. |

Maranga! Wake up!
People of Aotearoa/NZ, the change you are all so desparately seeking if there is a cry for continual abolition of the Maori Party, how uneducated some of you must be (??) if this were to happen now, as already said many times on this post of discussion, unrest and civil disorder will arise, a hikoi will happen, with Maori and Non Maori participants participating in it, it is a fact! that if change is too happen the Maori people that represent this party in Parliament need to have their say and policies and aspirations heard and the dream shared!
While some of us and some of you on this board might not agree with the Maori Party and see it as separatist or whatever are somewhat deluded. A general consensus can only be achieved if there is equal co operation! with each other and not without one party because you think that Maori are always getting handouts! are there no non/maori getting any benefits??
Make your votes count, thats what is supposed to happen and if you really care about the future of this country and the future of your children or any one elses, well hey you are not going to be left out in the dark!
Freedom to choose, thats what its about, there are enough MPs in the General Seats too poke a stick at who are damn useless anyway, good pollie and bad pollie, so be honest if possible and go for change!Advancement for all, and stop trying to continually ursurp and berate the Maori, for they are a people much like yourselves, and we and my generation as said before are Maori/celt, what do you profess we do? swim back too Hawaiiki? Never going too happen we have our earned our right through birthright much like many of you, and for those who do not like it, apparently a pooh hole has been created for you at the bottom of Aotearoa/NZ.........slide out of it and do the rest of the country a favour or MIGRATE too Australia, you wont be lonely there are a lot of kiwi , and Maori living there!
